Owens #2 among active players: Cornerback Christopher Owens added to his career total with his one theft in the UC Davis contest. He now has 13 in 37 games and trails defensive back Alphonso White of Wake Forest by two.

Three quarterbacks - nothing new: San Jose State played three quarterbacks - Myles Eden, Jordan La Secla and Kyle Reed, in the UC Davis victory. In 2007, the Spartans played three or more quarterbacks in each of the first two games and two times later in the season.

Jurovich in line for 100: Kevin Jurovich is four catches away from becoming the 18th San Jose State player with at least 100 career receptions. The one- time safety has played just 13 games on offense and averages 7.38 receptions per game. His average is higher than the late Guy Liggins, the Spartans’ career leader in pass receiving. Liggins caught 149 passes in 22 regular season games in 1986 and 1987 for an average of 6.77 per contest.

Back for a return engagement: Quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator was San Jose State’s quarterback when the Spartans met the Cornhuskers in 2000. Arroyo was a third-year sophomore making his fifth major-col- lege start in the season-opener for both teams.
