SMB_NO_ZFS_SYSPLEX_AWARE Health Check Change APAR OA34066

ZSL03119-USEN-00

Chapter 1. Introduction

APAR OA34066 modifies SMB_NO_ZFS_SYSPLEX_AWARE, which is a z/OS health check for the z/OS Distributed File Service Message Block (SMB) server.

SMB_NO_ZFS_SYSPLEX_AWARE attempts to determine if SMB can export a zSeries (zFS) read/write (R/W) file system. Because zFS allows you to specify if an individual file system is sysplex-aware, this SMB health check can no longer pre-determine if a zFS R/W file system can be exported. As such, SMB_NO_ZFS_SYSPLEX_AWARE may produce exception messages that are not valid.

To more-accurately detect if a zFS R/W file system can be exported, this APAR changes the way SMB processes the SMB_NO_ZFS_SYSPLEX_AWARE health check. In addition, several messages that are related to this health check have been modified. v SMB checks the zFS sysplex-aware status of the sysplex member on which it is running. v Exception messages are no longer issued for valid configurations; the SMB messages that are valid will vary, depending on the status of the sysplex member.

Sysplex= value System sysplex-awareness Message issued sysplex=on sysplex-aware on a system Exception message IOEWH0011E, basis which states that SMB cannot export any zFS R/W file systems owned by this system. sysplex=off non shared file system Message IOEWH0010I, which environment indicates that SMB can export all zFS R/W file systems. sysplex=filesys sysplex-aware on a file IOEWH0012I, which indicates that system basis SMB can export all zFS R/W file systems; however, individual file systems need to be mounted correctly.

The health check is inactive when it is shipped. After SMB is started, you will need to activate the health check by issuing the following command: F HZSPROC,ACTIVATE,CHECK=(IBMSMB,SMB_NO_ZFS_SYSPLEX_AWARE)

Releases supported This APAR applies to SMB that is running on z/OS Version 1 Release 11 or z/OS Version 1 Release 12.
