Слава Ісусу Христу! Glory be to Jesus Christ!

Dear Parishioners,

Have you ever forgotten where you have parked your car? It could have happened outside your favourite supermarket, at the mall, or in an underground parking garage. It is certainly an experience that can cause frustration and maybe even fear, to arise within us, because we do not know in what direction we should go. Fortunately, on most keyless car fobs, there is a button when pressed will cause the horn to beep. Once we hear it, relief comes over us.

In our daily lives, there are times when we may feel lost. At these moments, it is so important not to panic, but to “press” the button of our faith and listen for the voice of God. Once we hear it, we know where to go. Sometimes the path may not be easy, but it is the right one to take.

Today, June 27, is a very special day for our entire Church, especially for our parish. Twenty years ago, St. John Paul II, during his papal visit to Ukraine, beatified a number of martyrs of our Ukrainian Catholic Church under the title, Blessed Nicholas Charnetsky, CSsR & Companions. Among them, are four Redemptorists, one of which is Blessed Vasyl Velychkovsky, CSsR, whose relics are enshrined in our church of St. Joseph’s. It is truly a blessing that Blessed Vasyl is part of our parish. He “pressed” the button of faith many times. Blessed Vasyl heard and followed the voice of God. He can help us, to do the same. May Blessed Vasyl intercede for all our needs.

I encourage everyone to participate in all the online services today, the feast day of Blessed Vasyl. The schedule is in today’s bulletin.

Peace & Prayers, Fr. Dmytro

Currently proposals are being accepted for a permanent live streaming system. Certainly this will be a significant financial undertaking.

Donations for a new permanent live streaming system are now being accepted. Simply mark on an envelope “Live Streaming”. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

5 th Sunday after Pentecost - Sunday June 27, 2021 Blessed Nicholas Charnetsky & Companions Feast Day of Blessed Vasyl Velychkovsky

Tropar, tone 4: When the disciples of the Lord learned from the angel the glorious news of the resurrection* and cast off the ancestral condemnation,* they proudly told the apostles:* “Death has been plundered! Christ our God is risen* granting to the world great mercy.”

Tropar Feast Day tone 4: O holy Bishop and Martyr Vasyl,* you lent yourself to the apostles’ way of life* and succeeded them on their thrones.* Inspired by God, you found the way to contemplation through the practice of virtue.* Therefore, you became a perfect teacher of truth,* fighting for the faith unto the shedding of your blood.* Intercede with Christ for the salvation of our souls.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; now and forever and ever. Amen.

Kondak Feast Day tone 2: We all sing a hymn of praise to you, O holy One,* splendour of bishops and an example of victory.* We beseech you, O priest-martyr Vasyl, to deliver from danger* all those who celebrate your memory with fervour.* Intercede unceasingly for all of us.

Prokimen, tone 4: The just cried for help and the Lord heard them, he rescued them from all their troubles.

Verse: Many are the trials of the just, but from them all the Lord will rescue them.

Epistle: Hebrews 13:7-16

Brothers and Sisters, remember your leaders who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teaching. It is good to have our hearts strengthened by grace and not by foods, which do not benefit those who live by them. We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat. The bodies of the animals whose blood the high priest brings into the sanctuary as a sin offering are burned outside the camp. Therefore, Jesus also suffered outside the gate, to consecrate the people by his own blood. Let us then go to him outside the camp, bearing the reproach that he bore. For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the one that is to come. Through him (then) let us continually offer God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have; God is pleased by sacrifices of that kind.

Alleluia Verses: Your priests shall clothe themselves with justice, and Your venerable ones shall rejoice.

For the Lord has chosen Sion; He has chosen it for His dwelling.

Gospel: Luke 21:12-19

The Lord said to His disciples: “Men will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of My name. IT will lead to your giving testimony. Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute. You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of My name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives.”

Communion Verse: Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise Him in the highest.

The just man shall be in everlasting remembrance: of evil hearsay he shall have no fear. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

The Holy, glorious and Illustrious Apostles, Saints Peter and Paul Tuesday, June 29, 2021

Tropar, tone 4: O Leaders of the Apostles* and Teachers of the world,* pray to the Lord of all to grant peace to the world* and abundant mercy to our souls.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; now and forever and ever. Amen!

Kondak, tone 2: O Lord, you have received the steadfast preachers of the Good News,* the leaders of your apostles,* into the enjoyment of your goodness and repose.* You have accepted their labours and death before any other sacrifice,* for only you know the secrets of our hearts.

Prokimen, tone 8: Their utterance has gone forth into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

Verse: The heavens tell the glory of God, and the firmament declares the work of His hand.

Epistle: A reading from the second Letter of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Corinthians (2 Cor. 11:21-12:9)

Brothers and Sisters! Freed from your sin, you became slaves of justice. (I use the following example from

Alleluia Verses: The heavens proclaim your great deeds, O Lord, and your truth in the holy churches.

Gospel: Matthew 16:13-19

Instead of “It is truly right…”: O my soul, extol Peter, the solid rock* and Paul, the chosen orator of the Church of Christ.* We extol you in hymns,* O Most glorious bride and most holy Theotokos,* for you have given birth* to the Creator of all things visible and invisible.

Communion Hymn: Their utterance has gone forth into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

SAINTS PETER & PAUL June 29

We call Saints Peter & Paul “Leaders of the Apostles and Teachers of the World” in the troparian for their feast day. They are known as the pillars of the Church because they had a major role in establishing the early Church. They preached about Jesus Christ and baptized many people in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

After the Apostles received the Holy Spirit, Saint Peter “stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and proclaimed” (Acts 2:14) to the Israelites that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. We read in this story about Saint Peter’s sermons that people wanted more about Jesus. They wanted to know what they must do to become followers of Jesus.

Saint Peter told them they must give up their old ways to follow Jesus, in return they would receive the Holy Spirit. He said, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). By the end of the day about 30,000 people accepted Saint Peter’s invitation to be baptized.

In the New Testament are many stories about Saint Paul teaching the people about Jesus. In one story he asked the people who are baptized about John, “Did you receive the holy Spirit whey you became believers?” (Acts 19:2). They did not know of the Holy Spirit and asked to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. “And when Paul laid [his] hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied” (Acts 19:6). This story is just one of many that took place as Saint Paul traveled to different cities and established many churches for the people he baptized. We can read about his travels in his letter that are included in the New Testament.

Both Saints devoted their life to preaching about Jesus Christ and inviting people to be baptized members of the Church. Also both were martyred for this belief in Jesus Christ. In probably in 67 A.D. Saint Peter asked to be crucified with his head downward when he was told he was to be put to death. In 65 A.D. Saint Paul was beheaded because he was a Roman citizen and could not be crucified.
