All India Radio is continuously improving its network to enhance the quality of broadcast. Schemes have been approved for replacement of old outlived programme production equipment & transmitters and installation of new setups from time to time under Five Year Plans. (e) All India Radio has taken following steps to increase radio density in the rural/remote/backward/tribal region: (i) High Power MW transmitters have already been installed at capital /major cities of the states which are presently providing radio coverage to rural/remote/backward/tribal region of the respective states. (ii) AIR Broadcasting Centres have also been set up specially in backward/ tribal areas of the country. (iii) New FM transmitters are also being set up in the country including rural/ remote/ backward/ tribal region of the country. (iv) 21 radio channels (Programmes) of AIR have been made available on Doordarshan’s DTH platform in Ku-band (DD FREE DISH) and these can be received through a set top box all over the country with the help of small sized dish antenna receive units. (v) Popular AIR Channels have also been provided on internet and Android, iOS & Windows based applications. As regards DD, in view of multi channel coverage having been provided to all the areas uncovered by terrestrial transmission (including those located in rural/ remote/ backward/tribal regions) along with rest of the country, through Doordarshan’s free to air DTH service, new transmitters for expansion of terrestrial coverage are now not envisaged except a few in border areas. ******* Annexure-I Annexure referred to in reply to part (a) of Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 2259 for answer on 11/12/2015 List of Existing A.I.R. It was part of the British Empire from 1858 until 1947 when India was split along religious lines into two nations at independence: the Hindu-majority India and the Muslim-majority Pakistan. Its highly diverse population consists of thousands of ethnic groups and hundreds of languages. Northeast India comprises the states of Arunāchal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghālaya, Mizoram, Nāgāland, Sikkim and Tripura. It is connected to the rest of India through a narrow corridor of the state of West Bengal. It shares borders with the countries of Nepal, China, Bhutan, Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh. The mostly hilly and mountainous region is home to many hill tribes, with their own distinct languages and culture. Geographical names policy PCGN policy for India is to use the Roman-script geographical names found on official India-produced sources. Official maps are produced by the Survey of India primarily in Hindi and English (versions are also made in Odiya for Odisha state, Tamil for Tamil Nādu state and there is a Sanskrit version of the political map of the whole of India). The Survey of India is also responsible for the standardization of geographical names in India.
