Nora Stanger Contributing Writer

I picked up the phone yesterday and heard a voice I hadn’t heard in almost 38 years. Though something about the voice was familiar, I didn’t know who it was until he told me his name: Halie Abebe, a friend so close to me during my college years that we considered ourselves siblings. We come from totally different worlds, Halie is originally from Ethiopia and I am from Appalachia. Yet there was and is something within the core of our beings that draw us together. We were instant friends in our young college days, laughing at each other’s corny jokes, sharing our dreams of the future and encouraging each other during difficult days. For four years we built a sweet bond as we passed each other on campus or met in the cafeteria. After graduation, life took over and we lost contact with each other. The relationship I had with Halie was uncommon in that our life experiences for those first 18 years of life were unlike in nature. Next semester I am expected to grad- uate from high school as well with my Associates from Sinclair. I plan to transfer to a four year university for my bachelors in strategic communication, and I later hope to go on for my masters and PhD. I hope to pursue a career in either public administration or PR work. When I’m not working or in classes, I like to read and spend time with my friends and family. I also enjoy hiking and working on my novels.

Chris Davidson: Advertising Representative My name is Chris Davidson, I’m the advertising representative intern at The Clarion. My job is to contact companies/ businesses and inquer if they want to put in ad in our paper. My major is digital marketing and business management. I’m on my third year at Sinclair after changing majors several times and when I finally graduate I would like to be a social media director for an up and coming company, while working on a tattoo apprenticeship. I graduated from Tippecanoe High School in 2016. Thereafter I started my time at Sinclair in the fall of 2016. My life goal and aspiring dream is to be a tattoo artist in NYC, specializing in realism. In my free time I work one of my three jobs including my internship, when I’m not busy doing that I might be watching or playing a video game for about 30 minutes. My prefered hobby is self deprecating humor, even though I’m not very good at it. “There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy and the tired.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald Eclipse Leavy: Buisness Manager My name is Eclipse! I’m the Business Manager and I oversee advertising and marketing. I’m currently in my first semester of LifeStyle Wellness Coaching program but I’ve been a student at Sinclair off and on for about 8 years. I completed a Communication Studies as- sociate’s last Fall and I’m nearly finished with my Global Studies Certificate, as well. I am also a yoga teahcer at Day Yoga Studios. Yoga is a passion of mine and my favorite way to de-stress. I’d eventually like to start my own holistic health business helping people discover their potential through developing healthy habits. I’m an art enthusiast and frequently travel to see exhibits. I enjoy hiking, especially during the fall! I’m a big foodie and coffee lover, so when I travel I love to visit local coffee shops and restaurants! I love going to see live music of just about any kind. Some of my favorite concerts have been Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Steve Miller Band and Santana. Something super quirky about me, I have a large rock collection (and I’m not ashamed of it)! Kali Macklin: Staff Writer My name is Kali Macklin. I am in my third year at Sinclair, wrapping up my last semester and am set to grad- uate in December of 2018. I will have an Associate of Communication. I love yoga, animals, coffee and nature. I have an adorable dog and a snake. I am in a yoga Teacher Training program and will be a certified instructor by next February. I enjoy writing for the Clarion, as well as writing in my own personal journals.

Justin Pokorski: Graphic Designer I am a Visual Communications major and I am in my second year at Sinclair and I will be graduating in August of 2019. Besides working at The Clarion, I am also a Graphic Design Intern at Huffy Corporation in Miamisburg. Outside of Sinclair and work I spend a lot of my time cycling and bowling. My love of cycling comes from my father who has been doing charity bike tours for over 30 years. I have taken after him and have been participating in the Young’s Jersey Dairy Charity Bike Tour since 2011. Upon graduating, I hope to either extend my education by going for a Bachelors degree or begin working in the design field.
