Ties ‘deep-rooted’ Ambassador Balducci opens ‘Spazio Italia-Kuwait’ exhibit KUWAIT CITY, Feb 10: The Italian Ambassador to Kuwait Carlo Balducci affi rmed the development of integrated rela- tions between Kuwait and his country, and highlighted the depth of cooperation in all aspects, and the strive to con- solidate and develop friendship bonds in the future, reports Al-Qabas daily. He said this during the opening of the “Spazio Italia-Ku- wait” (Italy-Kuwait Space) recently, which was aimed to dis- play pictures of the heritage and civilizational monuments. It was attended by the Secretary General of the National Council for Culture, Arts & Letters (NCCAL) Kamel Al Abdul Jaleel. Ambassador Balducci emphasized some of the main ini- tiatives that characterized the bilateral cooperation between Italy and Kuwait in the past year, and the upcoming planned initiatives. He said, “This space, which extends over an area of 600 square meters, is located inside the embassy. It is a joint ini- tiative of the Kuwaiti and Italian people, while taking into account the rules of social distancing in a serious manner due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Such initiatives aim at strengthening relations between the two friendly countries. It is an interpretation of the cultural, commercial, economic, scientifi c and technological coop- eration”. Meanwhile, the Secretary General of NCCAL Kamel Al Abdul Jaleel highlighted the depth of political, diplomatic and cultural relations between Kuwait and Italy, stressing that they are deep-rooted and have historic links that were documented immediately after Kuwait achieved its independence. Al Abdul Jaleel explained that there are archaeological excavation campaigns all over Kuwait in general. The Uni- versity of Perugia carried out a major campaign to excavate antiquities on Failaka Island, and was able to infer many of the historical monuments currently preserved in the Kuwait National Museum. He went on to explain, “We also have an upcoming pro- ject with the University of Sapienza, one of the largest and oldest universities in Rome. It specializes in excavating an- tiquities, and these will have a share in the excavation of antiquities in Kuwait’s region. Had it not been for the COVID-19 pandemic, we would have signed the agreement currently in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
