Business owners Daniel and Amy Davies then hosted more than 100 people through the home over the weekend and say already it has generated a huge interest in their design and construction techniques. It is the first time Davies Homes has built a dedicated show home, an investment the Davies will use to showcase their approach to building homes for Kiwis. The 133 Meddings Crescent prop- erty is their take on a modern family home at an affordable price. It is an easy care property, with a range of stunning features and offer- ing four bedrooms (or three bedrooms and a den or large office), formal lounge, open plan kitchen, dining and family room, plenty of storage, ensuite master suite and indoor/outdoor flow — and a stunning rural aspect. Daniel also uses sustainable tim- ber products and has added ceiling design features, a wood burner as well as a heat pump — plus the latest Rylock trackless doors — to give the home some unique and homely appeal. Daniel designed the home and with Amy, his senior builder Gregg Hughes and his trusted sub-contractors set about making it a showcase of quality at an affordable cost. We picked the materials, fittings, colours and furnishings to best reflect our abilities and skills,’’ says Daniel. Gregg adds that the show home was an opportunity for the Davies 7775802AA Homes team to ‘unleash their talents’. Otorohanga stole victory from 7765474AA the jaws of defeat with a last wicket stand of 44 against Te Awamutu Sports Green in Wai- kato Valley 50 over cricket com- petition. The home team looked to be staring down the barrel of a first round loss after losing their ninth wicket with 225 runs on the board, chasing the Green team’s formid- able 268/7. But the home team had two players batting at 10 and 11 - able of commanding much higher spots in the line-up — former Northern Districts and Midlands age group representative Hone Wanden and the vastly experi- enced Barry Elsmore. Requiring only three runs per over, the last pair kept cool heads hitting the ball into the gaps and running well between the wickets to get their home team to a thrilling victory with one over to spare. The winning run came as something of an anti climax, cour- tesy of a wide, but it didn’t matter a damn to the Otorohanga players and their supporters who went on a merry victory dance. Otorohanga appear to have recruited a fine opening batting acquisition in age group rep Nick Gilbert. The 17-year-old got his team off to a brisk start, featuring in an opening stand of 100 with young Ricky Palacio, who spent our winter playing cricket in the northern hemisphere. Palacio made 29, while Gilbert was dismissed three short of what would have been a deserving century. His knock was laced with nine fours and three sixes.
