Advisory of Artist Change:
Artist-in-Residence Hilary Hahn to Withdraw from April Performances
(Philadelphia, January 12, 2018)—Philadelphia Orchestra Artist-in-Residence Hilary Hahn is expecting her second child in spring 2018 and must withdraw from her upcoming performances of Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1, scheduled for April 19-21, 2018, and the Peter and the Wolf Family Concert on April 21, 2018.
Renowned violinist Vadim Repin will perform Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in her place, April 19-21. The remainder of the program is unchanged.
Captivating performer Michael Boudewyns of Really Inventive Stuff will participate in the April 21st Peter and the Wolf Family Concert.
“We are deeply grateful to Hilary for her work this season as Artist-in-Residence,” said Vice President for Artist Planning Jeremy Rothman. “It was wonderful to welcome her back to Philadelphia and to see her connect with audiences both in the concert hall and out in the community. We wish Hilary and her family the best during this exciting time.”
Born in Siberia in 1971, Vadim Repin was eleven when he won the gold medal in all age categories in the Wienawski Competition and gave his recital debuts in Moscow and St. Petersburg. At 14 he made his debuts in Tokyo, Munich, Berlin, Helsinki; a year later at Carnegie Hall. At 17 he was the youngest-ever winner of the Reine Elisabeth Concours. Since then he has performed with all of the world’s greatest orchestras and conductors.
Repin recorded the great Russian violin concerti by Shostakovich, Prokofiev, and Tchaikovsky on Warner Classics. For Deutsche Grammophon he recorded the Beethoven Violin Concerto, the Brahms Violin Concerto and Double Concerto (Truls Mørk, cello) with the Gewandhaus Orchester, the Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov trios with Mischa Maisky and Lang Lang (which won the Echo Classic) and works by Grieg, Janacek and César Franck with Nikolai Lugansky, which won the 2011 BBC Music Award.
