SEASON SERIES Oct. 9 @ CBJ (L, 2-5) Feb. 5 vs. CBJ

CONNECTIONS Matt Calvert was drafted by Columbus (fifth round, 127th overall) in 2008 and spent his first eight NHL seasons with the Blue Jackets ... He tallied 149 points (72g/77a) in 416 games for the Jackets and 10 points (6g/4a) in 16 playoff contests ... Ian Cole finished last season with the Blue Jackets, appearing in 20 regular-season games (2g/5a) and six playoff contests (0g/3a) ... Jared Bednar guided Columbus' AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters, to the 2016 Calder Cup championship ... Nolan Pratt was an assistant coach with the Monsters that year ... Seth Jones' father, Popeye Jones, played for the NBA's Denver Nuggets in 1999-2000.

BARRIE NICE Tyson Barrie led the Avalanche with 13 points (2g/11a) in 10 games during the month of January. Only Brent Burns and Mark Giordano (both 15) tallied more points last month among NHL defensemen. Barrie is currently tied for seventh among NHL defenders in scoring with 39 points (6g/33a).

WILSON REACHES 600 GAMES Colin Wilson appeared in his 600th career NHL game on Saturday night against Vancouver. He became the 13th member of the 2008 NHL Draft class to reach 600 games.

ALL-STAR TRIO Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen represented the Avalanche at the 2019 NHL All-Star Game in San Jose. It marked the first time that three Avalanche players were named to the All-Star Game since 2003-04, when Rob Blake, Joe Sakic and Alex Tanguay competed for the Western Conference in Minnesota. Landeskog recorded seven points (four goals, three assists) in two games during All-Star Weekend, which included a hat trick in the opener against the Pacific Division. Rantanen finished with a total of six points (four goals, two assists) in the two contests. MacKinnon, who was voted captain of the Central Division, was unable to participate in the game due to a foot injury but was on the bench beside head coach Paul Maurice throughout. He was the first Avalanche player to serve as an All-Star Game captain since Sakic wore the ‘C’ for the Western Conference in 2007.

• Rantanen leads the team and is tied for fourth in league scoring with 74 points (23g/51a). Mikko's 74 points set an Avalanche record before the All-Star Break, topping Sakic's 72 in 2000-01. Rantanen was the quickest player to reach 70 points in Avalanche history (47 games), two games faster than Sakic in 1995-96. Rantanen, who ranks third in the NHL in assists (51), became the third different player in franchise history to reach 50 assists in less than 50 team games, joining Peter Stastny (twice, 1981-82 and 1983-84) and Peter Forsberg (1995-96). Mikko is currently tied for third in the league with 11 power-play goals, one shy of his career high (12 in 2017-18). He is four helpers short of matching his personal best of 55 assists from last year. The Nousiainen, Finland, native held a share of the NHL scoring lead for 66 consecutive days from Oct. 23 to Dec. 27.

MOST POINTS BY AVALANCHE PLAYER AT ALL-STAR BREAK 74 Mikko Rantanen 2018-19 72 Joe Sakic 2000-01 71 Nathan MacKinnon 2018-19 66 Joe Sakic 1995-96 64 Peter Forsberg 1995-96

• Landeskog leads the team with a career-high 29 goals, topping his previous high of 26 set in 2013-14. He paces the NHL with eight game-winning tallies, while his 29 goals overall are tied for eighth. Landy is aiming to become only the third player in Avalanche history to hit the 30-goal mark in 52 or fewer teams games, joining Sakic (44th game in 1995-96) and Marek Svatos (52nd in 2005-06). The Stockholm native has also set career highs in power-play goals (10) and game winners. A league-high 17 of Landeskog's 29 goals have come in the third period, which is a new Avalanche single-season record.

• MacKinnon ranks sixth in league scoring with 71 points (27g/44a) in 51 games. He leads the NHL in shots (221), is tied for first in power-play assists (21), ranks third in PP points (28), eighth in assists and tied for 14th in goals.

THAT 70s SHOW Rantanen and MacKinnon were the first NHL teammates to each have 70 points prior to the All-Star Break since Pittsburgh’s Mario Lemieux (79) and Jaromir Jagr (72) in 1996-97.

THREE'S COMPANY Landeskog (54)—MacKinnon (71)—Rantanen (74) have combined for 199 points (79g/120a), the second most of any three teammates. They trail only Tampa's Nikita Kucherov (80), Brayden Point (65) and (59), who have combined for 204. A look at the top line: • Colorado’s threesome has factored on 100 of 170 goals this season (59%). • 22 times all three forwards have gotten points on the same goal. • 78 times at least two of the three has factored on a goal. • 55 times BOTH MacKinnon and Rantanen have been involved in a goal. • Colorado is 5-0-0 when the three linemates score a goal in the same game and 19-5-5 when they each collect a point.

ON THE OFFENSIVE Colorado ranks seventh in the NHL in scoring, averaging 3.33 goals-per-game. The Avs have scored six or more goals on 10 occasions this season, trailing only Tampa Bay (13) and Calgary (11) for the most such efforts. Only two other teams in Avalanche history have had double-digit games with at least six goals, 1995-96 (18) and 1996-97 (12).

PICK SIX The Avs tied a franchise record with six goals in the second period of their 7-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Jan. 19. It was the ninth time that the Avalanche/Nordiques scored six goals in a period and the first time since March 3, 1999 at Florida (3rd). It marked only the third six-goal frame since the franchise relocated to Denver (also Dec. 5, 1995 vs. San Jose - 1st). Colorado was the first NHL team to score six times in a period since the Pittsburgh Penguins on Jan. 16, 2017 vs. Washington (2nd).

POWER PLAY The Avs rank fifth in power-play percentage at 24.7% (47/190). Colorado finished eighth last season at 22.0% (65/296). The PP unit has scored two or more goals nine different times this season, going 9-0-0 in those contests.

THE THIRD DEGREE The Avs rank third in the NHL with 67 third-period goals, trailing only Calgary (82) and Winnipeg (71). Rantanen is tied with Patrick Kane for the NHL lead with 31 points (7g/24a) in the third period, while Landeskog leads the league with 17 third-period goals.

MAKAR AMONG LEADERS Cale Makar, the fourth overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, leads all Hockey East defensemen and ranks second overall in the league with 30 points (9g/21a) in 25 games for No. 2 ranked UMass. His 21 assists rank second among all Hockey East skaters, while his 30 points rank third nationally among blueliners. He has joined Thomas Poeck (41 in 2003-04 and 37 in 2002-03) and Justin Braun (31 in 2009-10) as the only blueliners in school history to surpass 30 points in a single season.

AHL ALL-STARS Andrew Agozzino and Pavel Francouz were selected to represent the Colorado Eagles at the AHL All-Star Classic on Jan. 28 in Springfield, Mass. Francouz ended up missing the contest due to injury. Agozzino leads the Eagles in goals (18), assists (24), points (42), plus/minus (+12), power-play goals (7) and shots (131). Francouz leads the club in wins (15).

BARRIE BEST Tyson Barrie became the highest-scoring defenseman in franchise history with his 276th career point on Jan. 4 against the New York Rangers, passing John-Michael Liles (275). Barrie passed Liles for the most assists on Dec. 29.
