New Vehicle Traits Anti-Air Quantum Shields When a Damage Roll Is New vehicle traits Add 2 to Defence against non-airborne attackers, but the vehicle must move at least half its Cuising Speed or fall. If the Vehicle also have Hover, the pilot can choose to drop to Hover or to take off to be Airborne Airborne as part of his movement (in effect at the baginning of the next round), and the vehicle has two Cruising Speeds: one for each mode. Anti-Air Ignores bonus to Defence of Airborne targets. Can be vehicle or weapon trait. This vehicle has a Tau shield generator. Against ranged attacks from weapons of less then 15 Base Energy Damage, add X to the Defence. Against ranged attacks from weapons of Base Damage of 15 or more, Shield (X) add X to the Resistance instead. Against meele attacks halve the bonuses. If the vehicle equipped with a Holo-Field moved at least half its Cruising speed, it adds additional +2 to Holo-Field Defence; if it moved between half and full Cruising Speed it adds +3 to Defence instead; if it moved over Cruising speed, it adds +4 Defense instead. Ion Shield During your turn, choose a 90 degree arc. The Pilot can Soak ranged attacks from that arc by rolling X (Initiative + Pilot), without spending Wrath/Ruin. Night The pilot of the vehicle can attempt to soak damage from ranged attacks, without spending Wrath, up to Shield X X times per round. It also adds +X bonus dice to Stealth in dark enviroments. Living The vehicle regains 1 Wound at the beginning of its turn. Spend 1 Wrath/Ruin to add 1d6 to the number Metal of Wounds regained. The vehicle have one or more void shields, each with the Resistance of *X and 1 wound. When the vehicle is hit with a ranged attack, void shields are hit first. As with a Mob, an additional hit is scored for Void each two icons over Defence. Unlike a mob, all hits are allocated to a first shield until it takes a wound Shield X and deacticvates (excess damage is lost), then the next one, and so on. If no shields remain, next one hit can be allocated to the vehicle instead. The voids shelds are reactivated at the beginning of the vehicle's turn, unless their generators are damaged somehow. When a Damage roll is made against the vehicle, add a one-time bonus to its Resistance equal to the Quantum number of failed dice on that damage roll. In addition, any effects that improve dice results of the Shields damage roll (Brutal, Melta, etc.) never apply to the damage rolls against the vehicle. Comic books have rarely been treated as a serious art form or cultural phenomenon. It used to be that creating a comic book would be considered shameful or something done only as side work. Beginning in the 1990s, some comic creators were able to leverage enough cultural capital to influence more media. In the post-9/11 world, generic elements of superheroes began to resonate with audiences; superheroes fight against injustices and are able to confront the evils in today’s America. This has created a billion dollar, Oscar-award-winning industry of superhero movies, as well as allowed created comic book careers for artists and writers.

Reminiscences of Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Robert Southey by Joseph Cottle Reminiscences of Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Robert Southey by Joseph Cottle Produced by Jonathan Ingram, Thomas Berger, Charles Franks and the Online Distributed Proofreading Team. [Illustration: Portrait.] * * * * * REMINISCENCES OF SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE AND ROBERT SOUTHEY by JOSEPH COTTLE * * * * * INTRODUCTION. It is with a solemnized feeling that I enter on these Reminiscences. page 1 / 646 Except one, I have survived all the associates of my earlier days. The young, with a long life in perspective, (if any life can be called long, in so brief an existence) are unable to realize the impressions of a man, nearer eighty than seventy, when the shadows of evening are gathering around, and, in a retrospective glance, the whole field of past vision appears, in all its complexities, like the indistinct tumults of a dream. The acute reasoner--the fiery politician--the eager polemic--the emulous aspirant after fame; and many such have I known, where are they? and how mournful, if any one of them should be found, at last, to have directed his solicitudes, alone, to material objects;--should have neglected to cultivate his own little plot of earth, more valuable than mines! and have sown no seeds for eternity. It is not a light motive which could have prompted me, when this world of "Eye and Ear" is fast receding, while grander scenes are opening, and so near! to call up almost long-forgotten associations, and to dwell on the stirring, by-gone occurrences that tend, in some measure, to interfere with that calm which is most desirable, and best accords with the feelings of one who holds life by such slender ties.

  • American Superhero Comics and the Shadow of 9/11
No More Tall Buildings: American Superhero Comics and the Shadow of 9/11 Mauricio Castro Synopsis This essay explores reactions to the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001 in superhero comics published by Marvel and DC Comics. It outlines how these publishers largely avoided engaging the meanings of the attacks and focused instead on their impact on American society and politics. It traces commonalities between storylines in Amazing Spider-Man, Ex Machina, and The Boys, contrasting them with the work of John Ney Rieber and John Cassaday on Captain America. It concludes that these corporate entities likely shied away from controversy that might have harmed their industry status and stunted the possibilities of their emerging multi-media presence. Biography Mauricio Castro received a BA from Vassar College and an MA in American history from Purdue University, where he is a Ph.D. candidate. His dissertation focuses on Miami‟s urban development following the arrival of the Cuban exiles in 1959. His academic interests include political economy, gender, nationalism, and popular culture. Essay The two pages which open issue number 36 of The Amazing Spider-Man (Volume 2) show the titular hero gripping his own head in horror and impotence as he looks down upon the burning wreckage of the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11th, 2001. Written by J. Michael Straczynski, illustrated by John Romita Jr., and published on November 14th of that same year, Amazing Spider-Man #36 was meant to directly address the events of the previous September through the eyes of Marvel Comic‟s everyman New Yorker, Peter Parker.

Schrödinger’s Cape: The Quantum Seriality of the Marvel Multiverse William Proctor, University of Bournemouth, UK. On the surface, quantum physics and narrative theory are not easy bedfellows. In fact, some may argue that the two fields are incommensurable paradigms and any attempt to prove otherwise would be a foolhardy endeavour, more akin to intellectual trickery and sleight-of- hand than a prism with which to view narrative systems. Yet I find myself repeatedly confronted by these two ostensibly incompatible theories converging as I explore the vast narrative networks associated with fictional world-building -- most notably those belonging to comic book multiverses of Marvel and DC Comics which, Nick Lowe argues “are the largest narrative constructions in human history (exceeding, for example, the vast body of myth, legend and story that underlies Greek and Latin literature)” (Kaveney, 25). Contemporary quantum theory postulates that the universe is not a singular body progressing linearly along a unidirectional spatiotemporal pathway – as exponents of the Newtonian classic physics model believe – but, rather, a multiverse comprised of alternate worlds, parallel dimensions and multiple timelines. Both Marvel and bête noire DC Comics embrace the multiverse concept that allows multiple iterations, versions and reinterpretations of their character populations to co-exist within a spatiotemporal framing principle that shares remarkable commonalities with the quantum model. Where Marvel and DC deviate from one another, however, is that the latter utilises the conceit as an intra-medial model for its panoply of comic books; whereas, conversely, the Marvel multiverse functions as a transmedia firmament that encapsulates an entire catalogue within its narrative rubric, a strategy that is analogous with the quantum paradigm.
