Learn about the culture and conflicts of the Plains Indians and revisit western history at the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum. Walk along the famous Mountain Plains Heritage Park Trail as did the gold seekers in the 1860s. Frequent and responsible use of the Clear Creek Trail *Permissible uses vary. Consult trailhead signs for indi- vidual trail rules. Bicyclists  Stay on the trail and don’t ride around water bars  Ride slowly/single file when passing /being passed Find the best trail for YOU!  Yield right of way to walkers  Maintain traction; skidding damages the trail The Clear Creek Trail System includes more than 20 miles of mostly interconnected trails, and traverses an area rich  Control your speed; be ready to stop if necessary with Indian and western history surrounded by the magnificent scenery of the Bighorn Mountains.  Downhill riders yield to uphill riders

Centennial Trail connects motels and restaurants to artisan row and historic downtown Buffalo. Interpretive signs Dog Owners along the creek introduce the rich history of this area. Washington Park Trail winds through the City Park with its  Dogs must be leashed except on the lower portion horseshoe pits, picnic shelters and Wyoming’s largest free municipal swimming pool. Perhaps most popular is the of Mountain Plains Heritage Park & from Mosier Greenbelt Trail which follows Clear Creek for just over a mile. Many species of birds and wildlife are evident, and Gulch through Grouse Mountain Trail exercise stations along the way await fitness enthusiasts. Shiloh Trail connects residents on the west side of town to  Dogs are prohibited on Veteran’s Home property the Greenbelt Trail and routes to either downtown Buffalo or the Veteran’s Home and its pasture area. Due to graz-  Pick up after your dog; use dog waste stations and dispose of waste properly ing cattle, dogs are not permitted on the Veteran’s Home Pasture Trail, but walkers will find their way to historic  Obey individual trail rules pertaining to dogs Fort McKinney, with buildings dating back to the late 1800s. The natural surface William J. Mentock Trail is popular with serious hikers and mountain bikers. Along this trail are the Old Power Plant with its castle-like design and ac- cess to the Mosier Gulch Picnic Area (3.5 miles from the trail’s main access on Turkey Lane.) There are two ways to get to the Grouse Mountain Trailhead. If you continue down the road from the Mosier Gulch Picnic Area, you will see a gate blocking vehicle traffic. You can pass the gate and walk the two-track to Grouse Mountain Trailhead. If you prefer, look for the footpath just left of the gate mentioned above and take Joe’s Trail (unmarked), a natural surface social trail that also leads to Grouse Mountain Trailhead. Joe’s Trail hugs Clear Creek and offers great fishing spots along the way. Grouse Mountain Trail offers stunning views of the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area and challeng- ing switchback sections that are an enticement to hearty hikers and advanced mountain bikers.

Trails not yet directly linked to the other trails in the system: Klondike Trail features ranch scenery and a trail sur- face that is friendly to strollers and wheelchair use. Eva Knepper is a neighborhood trail that abuts the history-rich Willow Grove Cemetery. Mountain Plains Heritage Park Trail crosses the famous Bozeman Trail used by gold seek- ers in the 1800s and offers interpretive signs depicting life on the western plains, railroad history, and facts about bird species common to this area.
