AMBASSADOR CENTER Catalog 2018-2019

2018-2019 Catalog

General Information

mbassador Center™ (AC), founded in 2008 by David C. Pack, A President and Pastor General of The Restored ®, is committed to the development of the whole person. AC is dedicated to helping men and women prepare for meaningful roles in the Work of God by educating students with values that lead to success in life. The center seeks to achieve excellence in teaching while providing an educational setting that will serve to further the character and personality development of the student. The campus affords the student an edifying learning environment. The student body, which is made up of individuals from a number of areas in North America and beyond, provides a continuing opportunity to develop relationships.

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of Ambassador Center is twofold: (1) to provide an institution of higher learning for the education of students; and (2) to provide a consecrated ministry for The Restored Church of God according to the highest spiritual, intellectual and cultural standards for the preaching and publishing of the gospel of the kingdom of God, as taught by Christ, as a witness to all nations. After graduation, students may be hired to work full-time at the Church’s World Headquarters, be called into the ministry, or take on serving roles in their local congregations. The center recognizes the necessity of equipping ministers not only with thorough knowledge and sound understanding of Scripture and theology, but also in the liberal arts, especially English and public speaking. This affords a more well-rounded, balanced education. 1 Ambassador Center

To achieve the most effective development of character, personality, poise and true culture by social contact of both sexes on campus, Ambassador Center is co-educational. As a minister’s wife is considered an essential part of her husband’s ministry, and because of the need for educated women in various areas of God’s Work, the curriculum seeks to meet the needs of women as well as men.

Location and Setting

Wadsworth is an idyllic community located in Ohio’s Medina County. It provides its 23,000 residents with a favorable living environment complete with quality local schools and shopping. ny Ambassador Center graduate can tell you that the curriculum A emphasizes not just how to earn a living, but also how to live. It arms attendees to weather the ups and downs of life—to be able to fully enjoy the good times and face challenges head on. While AC began in the first decade of the 21st century, the tradition for the institution began more than 60 years earlier in Pasadena, California, with . Founded by Herbert W. Armstrong and sup- ported by the Worldwide Church of God, the college eventually branched into three separate campuses in Pasadena, California; Bricket Wood, Eng- land; and Big Sandy, Texas. The two North American sites routinely won awards for their beauty and quality, and all three were renowned for their immaculately landscaped grounds. 4 2018-2019 Catalog

The college operated under the motto, “Recapture True Values.” It taught students that “the Word of God is the foundation of knowledge.” The same standards apply today at Ambassador Center. Like tightly fitted blocks in a strong edifice, courses from four major fields—commu- nications, health, humanities and theology combine to form AC’s unique learning foundation. Character development, a focus sorely missing in academic institu- tions of the 21st century, is at the core of the program. Besides receiving proper training on becoming a true lady or gentle- man, studies emphasize developing real values such as virtue, self-con- trol, patience and kindness. These virtues ensure that AC’s curriculum serves to develop the whole person. c 5 Ambassador Center ACADEMICS

14 2018-2019 Catalog Admissions Statement

Dear applicant,

Greetings from Ambassador Center! We appreciate your interest in attending this unique institution of higher learning. The center accepts applications year-round, and these undergo a review process, including an interview with one or more members of an acceptance committee. Applicants ages 18 years and older are considered. As with any post-secondary school, acceptance is dependent on a number of factors, including but not limited to previous academic record and leadership experience. A certain percentage of applicants will be deferred, and a few may be denied. The center’s primary purpose is to train leaders for God’s Work— those who can serve in the field ministry or on the staff at God’s Headquarters. A third category of graduate is a pillar—a lay member who can serve in a local congregation. Bear in mind that AC candidates should not move to the Headquarters area without counsel from their local minister and Ambassador Center faculty. While it is natural for many to wish to live in the Headquarters area, this is not always advisable at a given point in time. We must avoid falling into the trap of “zeal…but not according to knowledge” (Rom. 10:2). Please understand that Ambassador Center is a time-intensive, high- pressure environment—one that demands a great deal of spiritual and mental focus, physical energy, and the absence of unnecessary distractions. If an applicant is dealing with severe financial problems or debt, debilitating health issues, or other concerns that will drain time and sap energy, it would be virtually impossible to keep up with the pace and workload at the center. A number of older people have applied to AC, and this is commendable! We have welcomed a number of mature students who have niche skills that benefit the Work, or who can be helpful in local pastorates around the world. We anticipate the Church’s ability to hire AC applicants will continue to expand, which will facilitate larger class sizes. We fully expect this to happen—on God’s timeline. In the meantime, as you consider applying to the center, keep the circumstances and guidelines above in mind, and evaluate your plans very carefully. Again, thank you for your interest in Ambassador Center. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
