THE COMPARATIVE ECOLOGY OF BOBCAT, BLACK BEAR, AND FLORIDA PANTHER IN SOUTH FLORIDA David Steffen Maehri ABSTRACT Comparisons of food habits, habitat use, and movements revealed a low probability for competitive interactions among bobcat (Lynx ndia). Florida panther (Puma concotor cooi 1 and black bear (Urns amencanus) in South Florida. All three species preferred upland forests but ©onsumed different foods and utilized the landscape in ways that resulted in ecological separation. -

Simple Summary: In this study, the mitogenomes of Hestina persimilis and Hestinalis nama were obtained via sanger sequencing. Compared with other mitogenomes of Apaturinae butterflies, conclusions can be made that the mitogenomes of Hestina persimilis and Hestinalis nama are highly conservative. The phylogenetic trees build upon mitogenomic data showing that the relationships among Nymphalidae are similar to previous studies. Hestinalis nama is apart from Hestina, and closely related to Apatura, forming a monophyletic clade. Citation: Wu, Y.; Fang, H.; Wen, J.; Wang, J.; Cao, T.; He, B. Abstract: In this study, the complete mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) of Hestina persimilis Mitochondrial Genomes of Hestina and Hestinalis nama (Nymphalidae: Apaturinae) were acquired. The mitogenomes of H. persimilis persimilis and Hestinalis nama and H. nama are 15,252 bp and 15,208 bp in length, respectively. These two mitogenomes have the (Lepidoptera, Nymphalidae): typical composition, including 37 genes and a control region. -

Patrus AUBÉ (Coleoptera: Gyrinidae) are reported from India, Thailand and Indonesia. Terminology and possible causes of gyrinid mass aggregations are briefly discussed. Three types of diurnal aggregations of O. (Patrus) haemorrhous Régimbart, 1902 are described: 1) “terrestrial clusters” (numerous individuals resting motionless and densely packed immediately above the water line), 2) “body rafts” (numerous more or less motionless individuals floating densely packed side by side on the water surface), 3) “surface swarms” (numerous individuals gyrating close together on the water surface). -

ZooKeys 22: 355–372. doi: 10.3897/zookeys.22.216 Abstract Th e Gyrinidae (whirligig beetles) of the Maritime Provinces of Canada are surveyed. Twenty-two species are now known to occur in the region, 19 of which have been recorded from Nova Scotia, 17 from New Bruns- wick, and 9 from Prince Edward Island. Seven species are newly recorded in Nova Scotia, and four in New Brunswick. Two of these, Gyrinus dichrous LeConte and Gyrinus gehringi Chamberlain, are newly recorded in the Maritime Provinces. Th e zoogeographic composition of the fauna within the region is briefl y examined, the species falling into six categories.
