3 Nawakwa Welcomes New Supreme Chief of the Fire An Interview with Brad Nesheim, Scout Executive Earlier this year, the staff of The Tom-Tom interviewed the new Scout Executive for the Heart of Virginia Council, Brad Nesheim. Mr. Nesheim comes to us from the East Carolina Council, where he was the Scout Executive. Here is what he had to say about his past Scouting career and his plans for the Heart of Virginia Council and Nawakwa Lodge #3.

What do you like most about Scouting? “I believe Scouting is a very important program because it has a positive impact on the lives of the millions of young men who join every year.”

What is your background in Scouting? “As a youth, I was a member of Troop 25 of the Piedmont Council in Gastonia, North Carolina. As an adult, I served as the director of field service for the , then the Scout Executive for the Chattahoochee Council, and the Scout Executive for the East Carolina Council, before coming to serve you.”

Why did you choose to come to the Heart of Virginia Council? “I liked the fact that the council and the city of Richmond are situated close to the ocean and the mountains. Of course, I had heard of the great reputations of the council and your lodge, and I wanted Mike Menefee to help them continue to grow myself.” the council’s Arrowmen.”

10 Founder’s Award

The nationally recognized Founder’s Award was created and presented at NOAC in 1981 as a means to honor and recognize those Arrowmen who have given outstanding service to their lodge. The award is reserved for an Arrowman who demonstrates to fellow Arrowmen that Thomas L. Howard, III he or she memorializes in his or her everyday The 2005 Founder’s Award recipients are (left to right) Carl Willett, life the spirit of achievement as described by founder E. James E. West was the first and served in that position for more than three decades. The West Fellowship award is available for gifts of one- thousand dollars or more to the Council Endowment Fund. This is one of the best ways to ensure that the Heart of Virginia Council can continue to offer outstanding programs and grow to meet the needs of the youth and communities that it serves. Nawakwa Lodge #3 gave its first James E. West Fellowship in 1999. The 2005 recipient of the James E. West Fellowship is Robert E. Tucker. W.
