The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) and Vice-President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Mr. Anas Alotaiba wishes Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all boxing friends, followers and stakeholders. Mr. Anas Alotaiba underlined the high number of challenges for all boxers and coaches and sends his best wishes to all stakeholders to accomplish their goals in 2019.

4 5 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation and Vice-President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Mr. Anas Alotaiba, furthermore the whole ASBC management is sending their sincere condolences to the victims of the Indonesian tsunami which affected the Sunda Strait and its area.

Less than two months after the serious earthquake struck Indonesia’s Lombok Island another massive one hit the Central Sulawesi Province with the magnitude of 7.5 in September. Following these two natural disasters another serious combination of eruption and tsunami affected the Southeast Asian country. The whole sport family and the Asian Boxing Confederation are sending their sincere condolences to the families of the victims.

Mr. Ali Salameh officially appointed as ASBC Executive Director

Mr. Ali Salameh was officially appointed as Executive Director of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) today which is stated in the AIBA letter which was sent to AIBA Vice-President and ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba.

The AIBA Congress was taking place in the Russian capital in Moscow one and half month ago where the affiliated National Federations elected the leaders of the boxing world and

The newly elected President of the Asian Boxing Confederation is Mr. Anas Alotaiba of United Arab Emirates recommended Mr. Salameh as Executive Director which was approved by AIBA President Mr. Gafur Rahimov and AIBA Executive Director Mr. Tom Virgets in Lausanne today.

Mr. Salameh was born in the capital city of the State of Kuwait in Kuwait City on March 7 in 1982. Following his studies at the Hashemite University in Jordan, Mr. Salameh was joined to work to the Jordan Football Federation in 2005. He switched to boxing and started work as General Secretary of the Jordan Amateur Boxing Association in 2009. He was Jordan's Team Manager at the Milan 2009 AIBA World Boxing Championships as one of his debuts in the international boxing stage.

He was member of the Asian Boxing Confederation's Youth Committee from 2010 until 2013. Mr. Salameh was among the first ones who has done his ITO (International Technical Official) exam successfully and worked several top ASBC events in the recent years. It was a remarkable moment in his career when Amman hosted the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships on July 2013.

Mr. Salameh moved to work to the United Arab Emirates Boxing Federation to develop boxing in the Gulf area as Executive Director a few years ago. Following his work as leading official in the Arabic region he was appointed as Executive Director of the Asian Boxing Confederation. His youthful enthusiasm to our sport could be the way of success for Asia's boxing life in the upcoming years.

Mr. Tibor Kincses of Hungary was officially appointed as PR & Communication Director of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) today. His position, which is continuous, stated in the official ASBC letter which was approved by AIBA Vice-President and ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba of United Arab Emirates.

The AIBA Congress was taking place in the Russian capital in Moscow one and half month ago where the affiliated National Federations elected the leaders of the boxing world and Asia. The newly elected President of the Asian Boxing Confederation is Mr. Anas Alotaiba of United Arab Emirates and he asked Mr. Tibor Kincses to continue his job and appointed as ASBC PR & Communication Director today.

Mr. Tibor Kincses was born in a small town in Gyula, in the Eastern part of Hungary near to the Romanian boarder on July 2 in 1979. He has been following all sport events including boxing since his early childhood from the age of 4 and built up a seriously strong database in our beloved combat sport as a teenager.

He started his university campaigns in the Szeged Science University where he finished his studies as Geographian and Historian. Following his working experiences in New Zealand Mr. Kincses finished his studies in various sports and specific areas in different universities in

7 8 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Budapest: sport management, boxing coach and PR & Communication Manager. He finalized his master level of PR & Communication Management studies at the Budapest Metropolitan University in 2016.

Mr. Tibor Kincses started his working career in the Hungarian Boxing Association in 2003 He supported AIBA’s communication in the 2008 Olympic Games and some other events in the end of the last decade. Following that he joined officially to the AIBA PR & Communication Team as freelance contributor and consultant in 2009 during the Milan AIBA World Boxing Championships.

Mr. Tibor Kincses attended in various boxing events and covered all level of international competitions since 2009. He joined to the staff of the Asian Boxing Confederation as PR & Communication Manager in 2012. Mr. Kincses worked in all of the recent ASBC Championships since 2013, supported each Asian National Federations therefore the new ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba asked him to continue his job for Asia’s boxing life.

Mr. Kincses’ 15 years of experiences in the boxing world, AIBA and ASBC, furthermore his impressive working attitude, 24 hours of daily communication services and his professional background in all parts of boxing will be strengthening the Asian Boxing Confederation and his continuous work could be the way of success for Asia’s boxing life in the forthcoming years.

Mr. Omar Saleh Omar Al-Jaberi was officially appointed as Sports Manager of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) today. His new position stated in the official ASBC letter which was approved by AIBA Vice-President and ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba of United Arab Emirates.

Mr. Omar Saleh Omar Al-Jaberi was born in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates on March 27 in 1973. He finished his studies in Abu Dhabi where he finalized Bachelor Level of Science in electronics engineering.

9 10 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Mr. Al-Jaberi joined to the world of boxing in 2002 and started his work in the United Arab Emirates Boxing Federation. He started his works in boxing as Referee & Judge following his various level of courses.

He has done successfully the AIBA 1-star and AIBA 2-stars Referee & Judge Courses in the recent years. Mr. Al-Jaberi operated the scoring systems and officiated all local championship in the United Arab Emirates as Supervisor.

Mr. Al-Jaberi has done his successful ITO exam in , Kazakhstan in October 2016. He worked as ITO (International Technical Official) in several competitions in 2017 including ASBC championships. Mr. Al-Jaberi officiated the boxing tournament of the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games as ITO this October.

Mr. Al-Jaberi’s experiences in the boxing world and his well-known positive personality will be strengthening in the Asian Boxing Confederation and his work could be the way of success for Asia’s boxing life in the forthcoming years.

Mr. Wail Elsadig was officially appointed as Finance Director of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) today. His new position stated in the official ASBC letter which was approved and presented by AIBA Vice-President and ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba of United Arab Emirates.

Mr. Wail Elsadig was born in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on June 1 in 1981. He studied at the Sudanese Academy in Sudan where he has done successfully the Financial and Banking professions.

Mr. Elsadig was joined to work to the Taxation Department in 2005 then he went to work to the United Arab Emirates with Group of Companies as a Senior Financial Controller in 2009. In the same year as Mr. Bassam Ghanem he joined to work to the staff of the United Arab Emirates Boxing Federation and GCC Boxing Organizational Committee in 2012 as Senior Financial Controller.

Mr. Elsadig worked in several areas and positions of finance in the recent 14 years and attended professional and world class courses in Internal Controlling, Polices & Procedures, Preparation & Implementation, Preparation & Implementation, furthermore Strategic Planning and Financial Acumen.

Mr. Elsadig knows the boxing environment and his enthusiasm, kindness and positive attitude will be strengthening in the Asian Boxing Confederation and his work could be the way of success for Asia’s boxing life in the forthcoming years.

His new position stated in the official ASBC letter which was approved by AIBA Vice-President and ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba of United Arab Emirates.

The newly elected President of the Asian Boxing Confederation is Mr. Anas Alotaiba of United Arab Emirates and he appointed Mr. Bassam Ghanem as ASBC Administrative Director today.

Mr. Bassam Ghanem was born in Mansoura City in Egypt on February 15 in 1986 and saw many of his teammates achieving medals in the boxing tournament of the Olympic Games and in the AIBA World Boxing Championships.

Mr. Ghanem interested about various kind of sports since his childhood and following his studies at the Delta Academy for Science, he was started to work in multiple companies in 2007 at the age of 21.

Following his multinational experiences Mr. Ghanem changed his environment and went to work to the United Arab Emirates and joined to the staff of the United Arab Emirates Boxing Federation and GCC Boxing Organizational Committee in 2012 as Public Relation Manager and Assistant Executive Secretary.

Mr. Ghanem’s enthusiasm, kindness and positive attitude will be strengthening in the Asian Boxing Confederation and his work could be the way of success for Asia’s boxing life in the forthcoming years.

Her new position stated in the official ASBC letter which was approved by AIBA Vice-President and ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba of United Arab Emirates.

The newly elected President of the Asian Boxing Confederation is Mr. Anas Alotaiba of United Arab Emirates and he appointed Mrs. Margit Kincses as ASBC Photographer today.

Mrs. Margit Kincses was born in her maiden name as Margit Nagy in the city of Hajduboszormeny, Hungary on November 26 in 1983. She studied nearly 20 years during her life mainly in various art schools in her home city in Hajduboszormeny, in Debrecen and also in the Hungarian capital in Budapest.

Mrs. Margit Kincses started her working career in Hungary as designer, decoration maker, photographer and she raised her experiences and language skills in New Zealand. Mrs. Kincses, who married to AIBA and ASBC staff member Mr. Tibor Kincses in 2011, worked in several arts, design, graphic design, web design and photography areas in the recent fifteen years.

She has done several professional courses and workshops in photography and also in almost all aspects of sports. She covered plenty of areas of photography since 2005 and arranged courses for beginners as instructor. Mrs. Kincses is a boxing enthusiasm, she trains three- times a week in the gym and our beloved sport is her life.

Mrs. Kincses joined to the world of boxing in 2011 as a photographer and worked in various international competitions in Kazakhstan, in , in Vietnam, in Russia, in the Philippines, in Indonesia, in Lithuania, in Azerbaijan, in Sweden, in Hungary, in Spain and many other countries to support AIBA, ASBC and the National Federations.

Mrs. Kincses’ experiences in the boxing world, AIBA and ASBC, furthermore her excellent working attitude, smiling personality and professional background in all parts of the photography and graphic design sectors will be strengthening the Asian Boxing Confederation and her work could be the way of success for Asia’s boxing life in the forthcoming years.

Mr. Baglan Beysenov of Kazakhstan was officially appointed as IT Manager of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) today. His new position stated in the official ASBC letter which was approved by AIBA Vice-President and ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba of United Arab Emirates.

17 18 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Mr. Baglan Beysenov was born in the city of Kentau, South Kazakhstan on September 25 in 1988. Following his studies in Kazakhstan he raised his educational level in the Multimedia University in Malaysia from 2007 until 2011.

Mr. Beysenov started his working career in South Korea and returned to Kazakhstan on August 2011. He worked as IT Helpdesk Specialist, SAP Administrator, Script Developer, Data Manager, Developer and Programmer in several companies in Kazakhstan.

Mr. Beysenov joined to the world of boxing in 2015 and started his work in the Asian Boxing Confederation three years ago and he was responsible to upload all news, contents, handle the ASBC website, IT issues and any other business.

Mr. Beysenov’s experiences in the boxing world and ASBC, furthermore his excellent attitude and professional background in all parts of the IT sector will be strengthening in the Asian Boxing Confederation and his work could be the way of success for Asia’s boxing life in the forthcoming years.

The Best of the Asians 2018 are revealed

The winners of the Best of the Asians 2018 project were revealed following the online votings in 13 different categories. The voting in the ASBC social media was available in the recent days through the Survey Monkey system. The Asian Boxing Confederation received record number of 5,675 votes during the online process for the Best of the Asians 2018 which shows the significant development and the great commitment of the sport.

The first Best of the Asians awards for the 2012 winners were presented during the 2013 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Subic Bay, Philippines. Since then the Best of the Asians project is a success of the Asian Boxing Confederation and the voting was available for all followers and stakeholders. AIBA Vice-President and President of the Asian Boxing Confederation Mr. Anas Alotaiba, furthermore the whole ASBC management are grateful to the followers for their record number or votes and activities during the project.

1. Best Asian Men's Elite Boxer in 2018 - Winner: Israil Madrimov, Uzbekistan, 75kg

Following Kazakhstan's Daniyar Yeleussinov's and Uzbekistan's Shakhram Giyasov's successes a middleweight (75kg) star Israil Madrimov of Uzbekistan won the Best Asian Man

The powerful Uzbek boxer was silver medallist at the at the age of 19 and following four years of experiences in all level of boxing he became the flagbearer of Team Uzbekistan at the Opening Ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games. Madrimov defeated all of his rivals in the Asian Games with strong performances including Philippines' No.1 Eumir Felix Marcial and Kazakhstan's AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist Abilkhan Amankul.

2. Best Asian Women's Elite Boxer in 2018 - Winner: Li Qian, , 75kg

In the women's elite level another middleweight (75kg) boxer became the Best Asian Women's Elite Boxer in 2018. The 28-year-old Li Qian, who claimed bronze medal in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, started the year with a top success at the Strandja Memorial Tournament in Bulgaria which is one of the strongest competitions in the whole globe. Following her victory in Sofia she was impressed at the 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships where she not only earned the gold medal but defeated Netherlands' Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist Nouchka Fontijn who was the Best AIBA Woman Boxer in 2017.

3. Best Asian Men's Youth Boxer in 2018 - Winner: Atichai Phoemsap, Thailand, 60kg

Thailand's super talented Atichai Phoemsap had busy year in 2018 but he was able to remain unbeaten in the Top3 youth competitions. The 18-year-old boxer firstly won the 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships, secondly he achieved the gold medal at the Budapest 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. Phoemsap was still in top form at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games and won his most important event this October capturing al of the three big titles this year.

4. Best Asian Women's Youth Boxer in 2018 - Winner: Sakshi Choudhary, India, Women's 57kg

Sakshi Choudhary won her first big title at the Taipei 2015 AIBA Women's Junior World Boxing Championships. The promising Indian girl claimed her second gold medal at the Guwahati 2017 AIBA Women's Youth World Boxing Championships. Following that success she moved up to the featherweight (57kg) and acclimatized quickly which delivered another gold medal for her at the Budapest 2018 AIBA Women's Youth World Boxing Championships. Sakshi is only 18 but she is already three-time AIBA World Champion.

Voting (Top3): 1. Sakshi Choudhary IND 67.36%; 2. Nitu Ghanghas IND 13.44%; 3. Dina Islambekova KAZ 13.07%

5. Best Asian Men's Junior Boxer in 2018 - Winner: Keisham Sanjit Singh, India, 46kg

India produced superb boxers in the lowest weight class of the men's boxing in the elite, youth and junior age groups in the recent years. Their new promising talent kept his unbeaten series in 2018 when his main success was a gold medal at the Nations Junior Cup in Serbia which was one of the strongest competitions in this age group. Keisham Sanjit Singh defeated experienced boxers from three different continents in 2018.

Voting (Top3): 1. Keisham Sanjit Singh IND 31.61%; 2. Yerassyl Zhakpekov KAZ 21.18%; 3. Khalid Aliyev KGZ 18.94%

6. Best Asian Women's Junior Boxer in 2018 - Winner: Arundhati Chaudhary, India, 66kg

Following Kazakhstan's Zhamila Bolat, who won the Best Asian Women's Junior Boxer title in 2017, another welterweight (66kg) talent became the No.1 after the voting process. The 16- year-old Arundhati Chaudhary has joined to the national team only 12 months ago but she

21 22 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER won two strong European international tournaments the Nations Women's Cup and Nations Junior Cup as well. During the votings she won the narrowest competition against Kazakhstan's 16-year-old Eldana Talipova.

7. Best Asian WSB Boxer in 2018 - Winner: Mohammed Etash Khan, India, 56kg

The Indian Tigers joined to the World Series Boxing in Season VIII and their franchise was enough strong to win matches during their debuting years. Mohammed Etash Khan was bronze medallist at the Bangkok 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships but their coaches selected him to the WSB team before his 18th birthday. Khan not only remained unbeaten in the Group Stage of Season VIII but he defeated such strong boxers as Kazakhstan's Nursultan Koshegulov and China's Xu Boxiang.

Voting (Top3): 1. Mohammed Etash Khan IND 31.16%; 2. Bakhodir Jalolov UZB 25.58%; 3. Shakhobiddin Zoirov UZB 18.42%

8. Asian Discovery of the Year 2018 - Winner: Gaurav Solanki, India, 52kg

India's Gaurav Solanki won the gold medal at the 2014 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and he qualified for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games at the age of 17. The Indian prospect has done a fantastic breakthrough among the elite boxers in 2018 when he claimed silver medal at the Strandja Memorial Tournament before winning one of the most important competitions the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in April. The 21-year-old Indian flyweight (52kg) boxer won the title of the Chemistry Cup in Germany in June where he defeated the Cuban and Russian No.1s.

9. Best Asian Coach in 2018 - Winner: Mr. Raffaele Bergamasco, India (Italy)

The Italian coach made strong successes with the elite team during the preparation events as in the Ahmet Comert Tournament in Turkey and in the Silesian Women's Open Tournament in Poland. His squad won four medals in the New Delhi 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships including one title which was achieved by legend Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte who became six-time AIBA World Champion this November.

Kazakhstan is a traditionally strong boxing nation with several top results in the recent 25 years and their experienced official Mr. Aslan Igubayev is one of the hard working persons in the Asian continent who supports the success of our sport. Kazakhstan's top Supervisor worked successfully in several big boxing events in 2018 and travelled a lot to cover all worldwide and multisport events with his great knowledges and experiences. Mr. Aslan Igubayev had a successful boxing career in the '90s before joining to the officials in Kazakhstan.

Uzbekistan's ringside doctor Mr. Dilshod Kazakov ranked No.2 behind India's Mr. Lenny D'Gama in the Best of the Asians 2017 but following his hard work this year he took over his main rival. Mr. Dilshod Kazakov is an experienced International Technical Official who has been supporting the world's boxing life since decades. Mr. Kazakov worked successfully in the Budapest 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and also in the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

Mr. Aleksandr Hamidov was one of the busiest Asian Referee & Judges in 2017 and he worked plenty of international events also this year. The Asian referees & judges worked in all of the top international competitions in the second year of the 2020 Olympic cycle. Mr. Hamidov's highlight this year was the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi, India and the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games besides to his duties at the World Series Boxing.

13. The Best Asian National Federation in 2018 - Winner: Uzbekistan Boxing Federation

Uzbekistan was not only successful at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games but the country topped the team rankings in Brazil. Uzbekistan is one of the key nations not only in the Asian continent in our sport and their boxers worked strongly in the most important events in 2018. Uzbekistan won gold medals in the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games, in the Budapest 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and in the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. Among the elite boxers Uzbekistan topped the team rankings in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games with their five gold medals.

24 25 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Mohamed Aswan Bin Che Azmi was named as the Best Boxer of the Penang Pesta International Tournament

The exciting finals were held on the last fifth competition day at the Penang Trade Fair International Tournament or shortly known as Penang Pesta in Malaysia which was the last event in 2018. Following the finals, the Best Boxer Trophy of the Penang Pesta Tournament went to Malaysia’s Mohamed Aswan Bin Che Azmi.

The competition period of the Penang Trade Fair International Tournament was between December 27 and 31 and the event is recognized for men’s elite and men’s youth boxers. Nine elite and seven youth finals were held in the fifth competition day of the Penang Trade Fair International Tournament where 16 winners have been crowned.

The following weight classes were scheduled in the men's youth part of the Penang Pesta Tournament: 49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg and 75kg. The men’s elite boxers attended in the event in nine different weight classes: 49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg and 91kg.

Malaysia’s top youth talent Muhammad Rasdenal Haikal, who was quarter-finalist at the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships this April, eliminated all of his rivals with top performance in the Penang Pesta Tournament. The 17- year-old talent dominated all of the rounds against Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Ariffin in the final of the light flyweight (49kg) and won the first title of the competition.

25 26 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Another Penang-based youth talent Sheik Rahmatullah Ibrahim amazed the crowd on Day3 of the competition when he bowed out of his way Thailand’s experienced Patipat Phetkhum and marched to the final of the flyweight (52kg). The 17-year-old Malaysian talent had to meet for the gold medal of this youth category with Sarawak’s Jackson Chambai Anak Ikeh and his efforts were enough to get the title.

Following Wilson Berayin Anak Sumbang’s and Daanisriwaran Muniandy’s successes in the next two youth finals a unique battle was held in the final of the youth light welterweight (64kg). Indonesia’s Jhonatan Siagian controlled all of his fights during his road to the final but he had to meet with Myanmar’s National Champion Thiha Zaw which was a close bout. The Indonesian boxer did his very best in the final and won his nation’s lone gold medal in the Penang Pesta Tournament.

Malaysia’s best elite boxer Muhamad Fuad Bin Mohamed Redzuan is member of the national team since 2009 and he was too strong for all of his opponents at the light flyweight (49kg). The 27-year-old defending Southeast Asian Games winner dominated his semi-final and continued his tough performance against Muhamad Syawal Bin Shaharuddin which final ended by RSC in the first round.

Malaysia’s Youth National Champion and young future hope Muhamad Azlizam Bin Abu Talib delivered one of the main sensations of the fourth competition day when he defeated Singapore’s Southeast Asian Games silver medallist Mohamed Hanurdeen Bin Hamid. Azlizam walked over to the gold of the flyweight (52kg) against his main national rival Mohamed Azuwan Bin Mohamed Nor who was unable to in the day of the finals.

Mohamed Zulkailane Bin Mohamed Nor used up his international experiences to win the final of the bantamweight (56kg) against Jamie Wong Lee Onn in Penang. Malaysia’s national team member 22-year-old Arfiqanie Ahmad Bin Anshori stopped all of his rivals in the Penang Pesta Tournament including Daeloniel McDelon Bong in the final of the lightweight (60kg) proving that he is ready to do big things in 2019.

Malaysian National Games winner Mohammad Khairol Bin Kalai eliminated Myanmar’s top hope Kyaw Min Oo in the semi-final and he was slightly better than Terengganu’s Halim Izan Bin Sulaiman in the final of the light welterweight (64kg). Mohamed Aswan Bin Che Azmi not only defeated Muhammad Syahmi Bin Mohamed Sanusi in the final of the welterweight (69kg) but he was named as the Best Boxer of the Tournament after all contests.

26 27 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Myanmar attended in the Penang Pesta International Tournament at the very first time and Ye Lin Tun was able to capture a gold medal in the event winning the middleweight (75kg) following his success over Perak’s Wan Zuhaili Bin Wan Zain. The last two gold medals were achieved by Malaysia’s new hopes as Tengku Nashahrudin Bin Tengku Yeng (81kg) and Premkumar Ewaraja (91kg) in Penang.

27 28 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER The 2nd edition of the Indian Open Boxing Tournament will be held in February 5-9

The second edition of the strong Indian Open International Boxing Tournament will be held for the elite women and men boxers in the city of Guwahati in February 2019. The competition will be a parallel event with the prestigious Bocskai Memorial Tournament but the local organizers are expecting record number of participants to Guwahati.

The first competition day of the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament is February 5 while the finals are scheduled in Guwahati on February 9. Guwahati hosted the 2017 edition of the AIBA Women's Youth World Boxing Championships 13 months ago where India earned record number of five gold medals. Guwahati is the host again in a top international competition and Assam region's biggest city is ready to welcome Asia's top boxers.

The first edition of the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament was held in New Delhi in January 2018 which was a preparation event for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. Altogether 18 champions have been crowned in the historical first edition in New Delhi. India achieved eight gold medals in the tournament but Uzbekistan was able to get also five titles in the Open Tournament where several surprises were delivered by young hopes.

28 29 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER India's female stars attended in the New Delhi 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships where four of their boxers won medals and among them their icon Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte won her sixth gold. India's living legend will be boxing in her homeland in Guwahati and her presence guarantees the native promotion of the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament.

India's men's elite boxers won gold medals in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and one title in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games. Mr. Santiago Nieva's team developed well and new possible stars joined to the squad such as Gaurav Solanki (52kg), Mohammed Etash Khan (56kg), Manish Kaushik (60kg) and Sanjeet (91kg).

The 43rd edition of the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament will be held in Bishkek next February

The new edition of the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament will be held quickly after the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament in February 2019. The next competition will be the 43rd edition of the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament for the elite women and men boxers in Kyrgyzstan's capital city in Bishkek.

Mr. Duisenkul Shopokov was the hero of the Soviet Union who died during the Great Patriotic War at the Battle of Moscow in December 1941. The tournament was named after him and the next competition will be the 43rd edition in Bishkek where several strong nations have registered to take part in Kyrgyzstan's capital.

30 31 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER The host nation of the event claimed five gold medals in the 40th and also in the 41st edition of the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in Bishkek in the recent years. In the last edition Kyrgyzstan won seven out of the twelve weight classes in Bishkek. Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, China and Uzbekistan all achieved gold medals in the recent editions of the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament.

Mr. Daniyar Jusubaliev the head coach of the Kyrgyz Republic will be selecting at least 50 elite men boxers to take part in the 43rd edition of the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in the front of the home crowd.

Kyrgyzstan's ASBC Asian Confederation Champion and AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event bronze medallist Azat Usenaliev is their top boxer who claimed also bronze in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games. Kyrgyzstan's new generation as Rustam Muratov, Sirodjiddin Abdullaev, Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu, Argen Kadyrbek Uulu, Bek Kamchybekov, and Abdurakhman Abdurakhmanov are all planning to attend in Bishkek.

Rio 2016 Olympian and Kyrgyzstan's flag bearer in the Opening Ceremony of the Games Erkin Adylbek Uulu is also in top form. The 27-year-old light heavyweight (81kg) boxer won all of his contests by large margin of differences in the last edition of the Kyrgyz National Boxing Championships in November.

A new AIBA 3-star R&J Course was held in Serbia with the participation of five new Asian referees and judges

A new AIBA 3-star Referee & Judge Course was held during the 61st edition of the Golden Gloves Tournament in Nis, Serbia in the recent days where five young Asian officials worked to reach their next goals during their career.

Mr. Hamza Ismael Kahlel of Iraq, Mr. Yerzhan Ospanbayev of Kazakhstan, Mr. Kairat Zhumankulov of Kazakhstan, Mr. Saeed Nazlawi of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Mr. Mohamed Safrask of Sri Lanka were the Asian participants in the AIBA 3-star Referee & Judge Course in Nis.

32 33 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Mr. Kairat Zhumankulov, who worked in the recent Kazakhstan National Boxing Championships, had strong international experiences in the recent one year and now he is aiming for his AIBA 3-stars. A great effort from a developing Asian country that Mr. Saeed Nazlawi could be Saudi Arabia's first ever AIBA 3-stars referee and judge.

Following the AIBA 1-star Referee & Judge Course which was holding in Vietnam's capital city in during their National Women's and Men's Elite Boxing Championships this 3- star Course was the next project in the education of our referees.

Two experienced AIBA Instructors as Andrew Caulfield of Scotland and Mr. John Waith of Wales worked with the participants in the AIBA 3-star Referee & Judge Course in Nis. The Golden Gloves Tournament itself was the practical examination of the attending currently AIBA 2-stars referees & judges. In the event Russia, Morocco and Serbia claimed the gold medals of the eight men's elite weight classes in Nis.

AIBA 1-star R&J Course was held in Indonesia in their National Championships

33 34 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Following the AIBA 1-star Referee & Judge Course which was held in Hanoi at the Vietnam National Boxing Championships another project is running in the Southeast Asian region. The next AIBA 1-star Referee & Judge Course is holding at the Indonesian National Boxing Championships in Lampung.

Two experienced AIBA Instructors as Mr. David Pike of Australia and Mr. Paiboon Srichaisawat of Thailand are the leaders of the AIBA 1-star Referee & Judge Course in Lampung at the Indonesian National Boxing Championships. The seminars have been separated into two parts, the first one was theoretic with a lot of presentations following that the second was introduced in the practical level.

Indonesia hosted the last edition of the Asian Games in Jakarta where two of their boxers claimed bronze medals this August. Indonesia's female talent Huswatun Hasanah and another young hope Sunan Agung Amoragam won their medals in Jakarta which were their first ones since the Bangkok .

Indonesia hosted also the Kapolri Cup for the women and men elite boxers this July before the Asian Games in Manado City where AIBA 2-stars Referee & Judge Course and AIBA 2- stars Coach Course were taking place during the competition.

Twenty-seven preliminary contests were held in the first competition day of the Indonesian National Boxing Championships. Indonesia's Southeast Asian Games winner Aldoms Suguro started well at the men's flyweight (52kg) on Day1, his strong performance was enough to beat Supriadi in the preliminary stage winning the bout by unanimous decision. Another hope in this weight class Ilham Tapajati also impressed in Lampung after beating Costa Serymena in the opening day of the national event.

34 35 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Mongolian Boxing Federation celebrates its 70th anniversary

The Mongolian National Boxing Championships was held in the recent days and during their most important event the Mongolian Boxing Federation celebrated its 70th anniversary. Mongolia is a key boxing country in the Asian continent with several top results since the '70s and the last 15 years delivered strong results for them.

The Mongolian Boxing Federation hosted the 2007 edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships for the men's elite boxers in Ulaanbaatar. Five years later the ASBC Asian Confederation Women's Boxing Championships was also held in Ulaanbaatar and their national federation has got strong plans to host new big events in the upcoming years.

Mongolia's boxing has got strong traditions, their bests claimed medals in the AIBA and ASBC events, furthermore also in the recent editions of the Olympic Games. Mongolia achieved altogether 26 medals in the history of the Olympic Games and among them 7 was taking in boxing.

Enkhbat Badar-Uugan won the gold medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and became a national hero in Mongolia which is their lone title in the history of the event. Mongolia achieved two further silver medals and four bronze medals and the country was able to get podium places in the recent three editions of the Olympic Games in Beijing, in London and in Rio de Janeiro as well.

Purevdorj Serdamba was silver medallist at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games but after that he claimed gold at the Milan 2009 AIBA World Boxing Championships. His success in Milan

35 36 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER was Mongolia's first and until our present days the last gold medal but their new squad has got the potential to make their second happen in the upcoming events.

Uranchimeg Munkh-Erdene was one of the most successful boxers in Mongolia's boxing history with medals from Olympic Games, AIBA World Boxing Championships and ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships as well who is still active in our sport. Tugstsogt Nyambayar robbed into the world of boxing at the age of 17 and earned silver medals in the Milan 2009 AIBA World Boxing Championships and in the London 2012 Olympics.

Mongolia claimed its first ever gold medal in the history of the boxing tournament of the Asian Games only in 2014 when Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai won the lightweight (60kg) four years ago. He won gold medal also in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and bronze in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Mongolia had record number of six qualified boxers in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games which were strong successes for the country. Mongolia won its first ever medal a bronze at the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi a few weeks ago where Nandintsetseg Myagmardulam took bronze medal at the bantamweight (54kg).

Another Mongolian female hope Namuun Monkhor achieved bronze medal at the Guwahati 2017 AIBA Women's Youth World Boxing Championships and the teenage talent was quickly involved to their national elite team. Mongolia has got relatively low number of boxers but the quality of their national squad is world class.

Rio 2016 Olympic Games quarter-finalist 22-year-old Erdenebat Tsendbaatar claimed gold medal in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games which was their top success in the current year. Chinzorig Baatarsukh was Olympian in Rio de Janeiro and achieved silver medals in the recent two big Asian events in Tashkent and also in Jakarta.

36 37 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Cambodian Boxing Federation hosted a National Referee & Judge Course in Phnom Penh

Cambodian Boxing Federation increased their level of activities in the recent one year and the developing country is moving ahead step by step to be successful at the 2023 edition of the Southeast Asian Games. The Cambodian Boxing Federation hosted a National Referee & Judge Course in their capital city in Phnom Penh as a next road in their development.

Altogether 40 referees & judges, including two women participants at the very first time, attended in Course from each region of Cambodia which 3-days long event was taking place in Phnom Penh. The Cambodian Boxing Federation hosted their National Boxing Championships earlier this month and their next activity was this educational project.

The active Secretary General of the Cambodian Boxing Federation Mr. Sophoan Buy also attended in the Referee & Judge Course to support all participants and organized the key issues of the event. The Instructor of the National Referee & Judge Course was AIBA 2-stars R&J Mr. Champahom of Thailand.

37 38 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Cambodia sent boxers to the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships to Bangkok and their athletes competed in some other international events as well in 2018. Cambodia is planning to attend more international events and host new national competitions in the future and the education of their referees & judges are important step in those roads.

Bobo-Usmon Baturov won the key finals at the Uzbekistan National Boxing Championships in Samarkand

Following the semi-finals, the eight gold medal contests were held at the Uzbekistan National Boxing Championships in the historical city of Samarkand. Uzbekistan’s Olympic Games winner Hasanboy Dusmatov opened the day with a title but Bobo-Usmon Baturov has done the top result with his gold medal after beating star Ikboljon Kholdarov.

Uzbekistan topped the team rankings of the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games this August with their five gold medals and the country is ready to continue their strong results in 2019. The

38 39 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Uzbekistan National Boxing Championships is a selection competition for the next season of the World Series Boxing and for the ASBC and AIBA events.

The men boxers attended in the Uzbekistan National Boxing Championships in the new eight weight categories as follows: 52kg, 57kg, 63kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg, 91kg and +91kg. Altogether a total of 264 men's elite athletes participated in the Uzbekistan National Boxing Championships in Samarkand.

Rio 2016 Olympic Games winner and Val Barker Trophy winner Hasanboy Dusmatov moved up to the flyweight (52kg) in the recent months and following his successful dual match in Moscow, he impressed also in Samarkand. The 25-year-old two-time ASBC Asian Champion boxer eliminated WSB hope Abrorjon Kodirov in the semi-final and he continued his wining path against Indian Open International Boxing Tournament winner 19-year-old Khudoynazar Fayzov in the final of the flyweight (52kg).

Islamic Solidarity Games winner Abdulkhay Sharakhmatov has got amazing record in the World Series Boxing and he arrived to Samarkand as one of the favourites for the gold medal at the bantamweight (56kg). His main rival Jakarta 2018 Asian Games winner Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov was eliminated by Tashkent's ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Otabek Kholmatov in the semi-final. Sharakhmatov walked over to the gold medal as his opponent Kholmatov was unable to fight against him in the last competition day.

Tashkent region's former AIBA Junior World Champion and winner of several international tournaments Aliyor Noraliyev defeated Bukhara's Shukurjon Rakhimov in the semi-final of the 63kg weight class. The 23-year-old Islamic Solidarity Games winner boxer achieved the gold medal following his opponent Tashkent's Jakarta 2018 Asian Games silver medallist Shunkor Abdurasulov was not fit to box in the title contest.

Jakarta 2018 Asian Games winner and Islamic Solidarity Games gold medallist Bobo-Usmon Baturov eliminated ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist 18-year-old Jakhongir Rakhmonov in the semi-final. The 24-year-old Baturov had hard road to the gold medal but he was able to defeat Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist and ASBC Asian Champion Ikboljon Kholdarov who moved up to the welterweight (69kg) in the recent weeks.

39 40 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Samarkand's first gold medal in the Uzbekistan National Championships was achieved by Fanat Kakhramonov who has done revenge against Akmurod Gafforov in the semi-final of the middleweight (75kg) and he was slightly better than Bukhara's Odiljon Aslonov in the final. Samarkand’s second title was captured by Hurshid Abdullaev who triumphed over AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships silver medallist 19-year-old Dilshodbek Ruzmetov in the final of the light heavyweight (81kg).

Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist Rustam Tulaganov of Tashkent returned to the sport and advanced to the final of the heavyweight (91kg) nut he was defeated by 21-year-old Madiyar Saidrakhimov who claimed his first elite national title following his youth gold in 2015. A new champion was crowned at the super heavyweight (+91kg) where 24-year-old Ulugbek Mubinov was slightly better than Bangkok 2014 ASBC Asian Youth Champion Obidjon Tokhirov in the eighth final of the National Championships.

The Mongolian National Boxing Championships finished in their capital city in Ulaanbaatar which was a selection competition for the 2019 international events. Rio 2016 Olympian Chinzorig Baatarsukh won the key contest of the National Championships where he was slightly better than Jakarta 2018 Asian Games winner Erdenebat Tsendbaatar.

Thirteen champions were crowned in the Mongolian National Boxing Championships after the seventh competition day of the event. The women boxers could fight in five weight classes in the Mongolian National Boxing Championships: flyweight (51kg), featherweight (57kg), lightweight (60kg), welterweight (69kg) and middleweight (75kg). The men boxers attended in the event in the new eight weight categories as follows: 52kg, 57kg, 63kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg, 91kg and +91kg.

Altogether a total of 168 athletes including 50 women and 118 men boxers attended in the Mongolian National Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar. The first gold medal of the national event was achieved by AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships quarter- finalist Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg who defeated 19-year-old Enkhjargal Munguntsetseg in the final of the flyweight (51kg) while favourite Jargalan Ochirbat achieved only bronze.

41 42 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER The women's featherweight (57kg) was won by former ASBC Asian Women's Champion Bolortuul Tumurkhuyag who defeated her main rivals as teenager Erdenedalai Michidmaa and Nergui Oyun-Erdene as well. AIBA Women's Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Namuun Monkhor was in different level than her rivals and dominated the women's lightweight (60kg) in Ulaanbaatar.

Erdenetuya Enkhbaatar attended in the New Delhi 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships and she was able to turn back her welterweight (69kg) final against another national team member boxer Shinetsetseg Uranbileg. The fifth gold medal in the women's part of the Mongolian National Championships was earned by Munkhbat Myagmarjargal who won a bout also in the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi.

Mongolia's ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist and Rio 2016 Olympian Gan-Erdene Gankhuyag moved up to the flyweight (52kg) but surprisingly he lost his first bout in the preliminary stage therefore the final success was taken by Ganselem Ariunbold who defeated Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu. Another top Mongolian hope Rio 2016 Olympian Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu dominated all of his fights at the new 57kg weight class.

Erdenebat Tsendbaatar won the gold medal at the lightweight (60kg) in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games and his top teammate Rio 2016 Olympian Chinzorig Baatarsukh achieved silver in the Indonesian capital this August. The two Mongolian stars are now attending at the 63kg weight class and met in the final of the National Championships. Their world class bout was impressed the crowd which was won by 27-year-old Chinzorig Baatarsukh.

Mongolia's London 2012 Olympic Games bronze medallist and AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Uranchimeg Munkh-Erdene moved up to the welterweight (69kg) but the 36-year-old was not able to win the title following his young opponent Bayarkhuu Ganbaatar was slightly better in the final.

Davaanyam Davaasuren has been attending in the international competitions since 2012 and his performance was enough to beat his rivals at the middleweight (75kg). Narmandakh Shinebayar is also an experienced boxer who returned to the world of boxing at the light heavyweight (81kg) and won his next national title.

The Vietnam National Boxing Championships was held in their capital city in Hanoi where the women part of the competition delivered sensational and world class bouts. Their top female boxers such as ASBC Asian Champion Nguyen Thi Tam and their medallists from continental events Luu Thi Duyen, Le Thi Bang, Vuong Thi Vy and Tran Thi Oanh Nhi all won their weight classes in Hanoi.

Vietnam Boxing Federation hosted the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Women's Boxing Championships in Ho Chi Minh City where their female boxers proved their strong potentials achieving gold, silver and bronze medals. Their Nguyen Thi Tam won the title of the flyweight (51kg) in Ho Chi Minh City one year ago.

Vietnam's male and female elite boxing team attended strong preparation events in Indonesia, in Bulgaria, in Thailand and in Mongolia and some other competitions but their main focus was the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games this season. Vietnam achieved one bronze medal in female boxing at the Games and the country is ready to get their first quota places for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics since their last attendance in boxing in 1988.

An AIBA 1-star Referee & Judge Course was held during the Vietnam National Boxing Championships with two experienced AIBA Instructors as Mr. Wayne Rose of Australia and Mr. Paiboon Srichaisawat of Thailand.

44 45 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER The first gold medal of the women part of the Vietnam National Boxing Championships was achieved by Nguyen Thi Thu Nhi of Ho Chi Minh City at the pinweight (45kg) following her success over Nguyen Thi Kim Sang of An Giang. Trinh Thi Diem Kieu has got strong international experiences and her technique was uncomfortable for An Giang's 21-year-old Vo Thi Kim Anh in the final of the light flyweight (48kg).

Vietnam's highest ranked female boxer Nguyen Thi Tam is the defending ASBC Asian Women's Champion who claimed bronze also in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games at the flyweight (51kg). The 24-year-old boxer was in different level than her opponents and she dominated her final against a teenage hope Le Thi Bich Lien.

Le Thi Bang achieved silver medal in the Ho Chi Minh City 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Women's Boxing Championships and she was enough experienced to beat 19-year-old Do Nha Uyen in the final of the bantamweight (54kg). Former AIBA Women's Junior World Champion Vuong Thi Vy of Bac Ninh is only 23 but she is member of the national elite team since 2012 therefore she knew the best tactic against 18-year-old Nguyen Thi Trang in the final of the featherweight (57kg).

Hai Phong's Do Thi Mai attended in the Taipei 2015 AIBA Women's Youth World Boxing Championships and the 20-year-old talent reached the top of the podium among the elite boxers following her success over Nguyen Thi Ngoc at the lightweight (60kg). Incheon 2014 Asian Games bronze medallist Luu Thi Duyen moved back to her best category to the light welterweight (64kg) and Ho Chi Minh City's pride was too strong for Dak Lak's 18-year-old Nguyen Thi Ngoc Bich.

Wulanchabu 2015 ASBC Asian Confederation Women's Boxing Championships bronze medallist Ha Thi Linh had injuries in the recent one year but she recovered and won the welterweight (69kg) in Hanoi after beating Bui Thi Hong Tuoi. ASBC Asian Confederation Women's Boxing Championships bronze medallist Tran Thi Linh of Thanh Hoa moved up to the middleweight (75kg) and defeated Vietnam's most experienced boxer Ngo Thi Chung for the gold medal.

Asian Confederation Women's Boxing Championships silver medallist Nguyen Thi Huong had to meet in the final of the light heavyweight (81kg) with her main rival Nam Dinh's Luu Diem Quynh but she was able to solve that tactical task in Hanoi. The Vietnam National Boxing Championships was held in their capital city in Hanoi where the women and men boxers could attend in a long competition. Their most experienced men boxers such as Huynh Ngoc Tan, Bui Trong Thai, Nguyen Van Hai and Truong Dinh Hoang were all won their weight classes in Hanoi.

Vietnam's women boxers reached the world class level in the recent years but their men's athletes also developed well and attended as many international events as possible. Vietnam's men's boxers attended in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament, in the Kapolri Cup and also in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games.

Before and during the Vietnam National Boxing Championships an AIBA 1-star Referee & Judge Course was held in Hanoi which was led by two experienced AIBA Instructors and former Olympian referees such as Mr. Wayne Rose of Australia and Thailand's Mr. Paiboon Srichaisawat.

47 48 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER The first gold medal of the whole Vietnam Men's National Boxing Championships was taken by Binh Phuoc's Tran Minh Huy who turned to 18 only this year but he proved his potential in the event and won the pinweight (46kg). The teenager was too quick for Nguyen Linh Phuong in the semi-finals and he continued his winning path against Le Tien Tien in the final.

Quan Doi's Huynh Ngoc Tan attended already in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games where he claimed a silver medal in Indonesia. The 27-year-old light flyweight (49kg) boxer was impressed in his final against Ho Chi Minh City's Tat Hoang Thanh achieving his next national title in Vietnam.

Bui Trong Thai attended in several international competitions such World Military Games, ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and Southeast Asian Games as well therefore the 24-year-old boxer was enough experienced to beat another national team member boxer Tran Van Thao at the flyweight (52kg). Nguyen Van Gioi delivered a small sensation in the final of the bantamweight (56kg) where he defeated Southeast Asian Games bronze medallist Tran Phu Cuong.

Nguyen Van Hai is Vietnam's most experienced elite boxer who is member of the national team since 2005 and attended in all levels of boxing excluding the Olympic Games. The 30- year-old lightweight (60kg) boxer defeated another international level hope Nguyen Van De in their top final. Vu Thanh Dat is only a 20-year-old talent but his skills were enough to beat Bui Phuoc Tung in the final of the light welterweight (64kg).

Ho Chi Minh City's 23-year-old Tran Duc Tho attended in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games which experienced paid off in the final of the welterweight (69kg) against Mau Van Dung. Vu Thanh Trung exceeded all of the previous expectations in the final of the middleweight (75kg) where he defeated the favourite Huynh Ngoc Vien.

Dak Lak's Truong Dinh Hoang won the gold medal at the Singapore 2015 Southeast Asian Games and he defeated tough Thai and Filipino boxers during his career. Truong returned to the world of boxing at the light heavyweight (81kg) and the 28-year-old boxer was too strong for Luong Van Toan in the final.

Nguyen Manh Cuong is only 21 but he impressed in the final of the heavyweight (91kg) against former Southeast Asian Games winner Luong Van Toan who joined to the national squad in 2010. The gold medal of the super heavyweight (+91kg) was captured by Vo Van

Chinese Taipei National President’s Cup was held for the women and men boxers in the city of Kaohsiung. The junior, youth and elite age groups each could fight in the National President's Cup where Chinese Taipei's stars such as Lin Yu Ting, Chen Nien Chien, Huang Hsiao Wen and Lai Chu En all won the gold medals.

Chinese Taipei impressed in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games and has done their historical steps with gold medals at the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi. The President’s Cup is Chinese Taipei’s main national competition and closes the boxing year in the country. The women elite competition of the Chinese Taipei National President's Cup was world class in Kaohsiung.

The first gold medal of the female part of the President's Cup was achieved by two-time AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships competitor 22-year-old Chin Chien Hui who defeated Lin Pei Fang in the final of the light flyweight (48kg). Pin Meng Chieh is the most experienced female boxer in Chinese Taipei who attended in several AIBA and ASBC competitions therefore her skills were too much for Tsai Chih Chen at the flyweight (51kg).

Wu Shih Yi is another well-developed female boxer in Chinese Taipei who turned to 20 this year and following her silver medal at the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup she was too technician to Chen Ching Hsuan in the final of the lightweight (60kg). The next gold medal was achieved by Liu Chia Chun at the light welterweight (64kg) where she was too quick for Pan Yen Ni in the title contest.

Chen Nien Chin won Chinese Taipei's second gold medal at the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships and the 21-year-old boxer was fantastic and confident in her welterweight (69kg) final against Lin Ya Hsuan. AIBA Women's Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist 19-year-old Yang Ya Chu won the title of the middleweight (75kg) before Chen Pin Tsen became champion at the heavyweight (+81kg).

FISU University World Boxing Championships silver medallist Tu Po Wei is only 21 but he is one of the most experienced male boxers in Chinese Taipei. The young hope, who attended also in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games, was too strong for Lo Yu En in the final of the men's light flyweight (49kg).

Another FISU University World Boxing Championships silver medallist Hung Chuan Hsun and AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Hsu Cheng Yu met each other in the junior and youth age groups in the recent years. The battle of the two teenagers was excellent in the final of the flyweight (52kg) which was won by Hung in a spectacular title fight.

FISU University World Boxing Championships bronze medallist and ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships competitor Chen Po Yi won the gold medal at the bantamweight (56kg) following his success over Chen Ping Tsun. National Games silver medallist Lin Yu Chun captured the gold of the lightweight (60kg) after beating Li Nien Hua in the final.

Chinese Taipei's first male Olympian boxer since 1996 was Lai Chu En in Rio de Janeiro who moved up to the light welterweight (64kg) in the recent weeks and defeated 20-year-old Sung Wei Chieh in the final. Another key contest in the President's Cup was held between ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Kan Chia Wei and

52 53 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Rustambek Uulu, Erkinov and Usupov celebrated their next titles in the Kyrgyz Youth National Championships

The new edition of the Kyrgyz Youth National Championships was held in the city of Bishkek at the Kozhomkul Sport Palace. Kyrgyzstan’s main youth stars as Sultan Asankul Uulu, Nuradin Rustambek Uulu, Kerimbay Erkinov, Islam Abdykadyr Uulu and Akhmed Usupov all proved strong performances in Bishkek.

Boxers who were born in 2001 and in 2002 were eligible to attend in the Kyrgyz Youth National Championships in the capital city. At the very first time in the history of the Kyrgyz Youth National Championships, women bouts were also held and four women boxers attended in the competition.

The number of the 107 men boxers in 10 weight classes meant altogether 111 athletes fought for the 12 available titles in Bishkek. Kyrgyzstan claimed one bronze medal in the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and five of their athletes qualified to attend in the Budapest 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships.

Bakytbek Sadyrbek Uulu defeated Bishkek’s Anvar Khodzhiyev and Zhakshylyk Tilek Uulu in the light flyweight (49kg) and celebrated the first gold medal at the men’s event. Kochkor’s Ilyas Ishengaziyev eliminated Dastan Urmatbekov in the semi-final and continued his winning path against ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships competitor Bayaman Magzymov in the final of the flyweight (52kg).

The men’s bantamweight (56kg) was one of the most popular weight classes with 16 boxers in actions and their ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships competitor, Sultan Asankul Uulu was the winner of this division. He defeated Bishkek’s Azat Kubatov in the final while Chui’s experienced Mukhtarbek Ibragimov and Baymyrza Kubatov were taken only bronze medals.

Osh’s Mirzokhid Imamnazarov eliminated Selim Lebuza, Musa Teshebayev and Rysbek Bektenov during his road to the finals where he stopped for the gold Asan Abdykadyrov of Bishkek. ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Umar Kubanychbek Uulu surprisingly lost his quarter-final bout and he was unable to get any medals in Bishkek.

Bishkek’s Mukhammad Kamalidinov stopped most of his opponents in the light welterweight (64kg) including Aziret Raimbekov in the final winning his first big title. Dzhalal-Abad’s Nuradin Rustambek Uulu achieved bronze medal in the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and he was too strong for his rivals at the welterweight (69kg) including Osh’s Islam Turgunov in the final.

Bishkek’s Kerimbay Erkinov was Junior National Champion in 2017 and he attended several international events in the recent two years. The 17-year-old middleweight (75kg) boxer defeated his main rival Chui’s Dastan Onolbekov in a hectic semi-final and he was too strong for Issyk-Kul’s Aidar Azamat Uulu in the final.

Dzhalal-Abad’s next success was delivered by Islam Abdykadyr Uulu who won all of his contests by RSC in the first round and he has done the same powerful result in the final against Chui’s Aleksandr Dresvyannikov. 55 56 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Experienced Kornelis Kwangu Langu won the best bout of the Indonesian National Boxing Championships in Lampung

The Indonesian National Boxing Championships for the women's elite and men's elite boxers were held in the city of Lampung where seventeen champions have been crowned. Experienced boxers as Kornelis Kwangu Langu, Matius Mandiangan and Julio Bria returned with successes while the youngest winner was a teenage hope Michael Roberrd Muskita in Lampung.

Following the AIBA 1-star Referee & Judge Course which was held in Hanoi at the Vietnam National Boxing Championships another R&J project hosted in the Southeast Asian region. The AIBA 1-star Referee & Judge Course was holding at the Indonesian National Boxing Championships in Lampung officiating with two experienced AIBA Instructors as Mr. David Pike of Australia and Mr. Paiboon Srichaisawat of Thailand.

Indonesia hosted the last edition of the Asian Games in Jakarta where two of their boxers claimed bronze medals this August. Indonesia's female talent Huswatun Hasanah and another young hope Sunan Agung Amoragam won their medals in Jakarta which were their first ones since the Bangkok 1998 Asian Games.

56 57 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Indonesia hosted also the Kapolri Cup for the women and men elite boxers this July before the Asian Games in Manado City where AIBA 2-stars Referee & Judge Course and AIBA 2- stars Coach Course were taking place during the competition.

The first gold medal of the Indonesian National Boxing Championships was taken by Sinta Augustin who defeated Ona Paays at the women's pinweight (45kg). Following her success Endang delivered the main sensation of the female competition of the National Championships who triumphed over AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships competitor Aldriani Beatrichx Suguro in the final of the light flyweight (48kg).

Ainun Azizah received the right to attend at the New Delhi 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships and the 20-year-old flyweight (51kg) talent was slightly better than Novita Sinadia in the final. Another hectic title bout was held at the bantamweight (54kg) where Femy Benamen defeated Jubaitul by split decision.

Indonesia's woman hero in 2018 was Asian Games bronze medallist Huswatun Hasanah who turned to 20 this year and celebrated her birthday with fantastic international successes. The young lightweight (60kg) boxer was enough strong to dominate her final against Novizar Maulina in Lampung. The last gold medal in the women part of the Indonesian National Championships was taken by Ildawati who used her best fighting distance against Margaretha Natha in the final of the light welterweight (64kg).

The pinweight (46kg) was a crowded category in the men's part of the Indonesian National Championships which was won by Juandi Abas in Lampung. Two stars had to meet in the final of the light flyweight (49kg) which is always one of the strongest ones in Indonesia. ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Kornelis Kwangu Langu defeated President's Cup winner Mario Blasius Kali this time in their top final.

Indonesia's Southeast Asian Games winner Aldoms Suguro started well at the men's flyweight (52kg) and kept his focus until the end of the national event where he did not give any chance to his main rivals such as Ilham Tapajati and Dudu Surya Maulana. Another well experienced and Southeast Asian Games gold medallist boxer Julio Bria of Bali returned with powerful performance and won the bantamweight (56kg) in Lampung.

Jakarta 2018 Asian Games quarter-finalist Farrand Buyung Papendang was the main favourite of the men's lightweight (60kg) but he was defeated by another experienced boxer Southeast Asian Games silver medallist Matius Mandiangan in the final. International level boxers as

Saputra Samada also impressed in the final of the welterweight (69kg) and defeated Savon Simangunsong for the title while Asian Games competitor Saroha Tua Lumbantobing achieved only bronze in Lampung. The youngest winner of the whole Indonesian National Championships was Michael Roberrd Muskita who attended at the Budapest 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and triumphed over veteran Vinky Montolalu in the final of the middleweight (75kg).

Six new winners including two ladies celebrated their gold medals in the Macau Open Boxing Championships

The Macau Open Boxing Championships is the highlight among the competitions in the small country and the new edition was a success for the women’s and men’s elite boxers. Macau Boxing Association hosted Macau Open Boxing Tournament in their capital city and six new winners celebrated their titles after the finals.

Macau Boxing Association is planning to build up a new national team and their management is trying to increase their international experiences. Macau is a developing boxing nation in the East Asian region and to raise the skills of their talents Macau Boxing Association has been hiring Chinese coaches to get the next step.

Mr. Lai Pak Leng is the current and active President of the Macau Boxing Association who is working hard to develop the sport in spite of the fact combat arts are not enough popular in the small country yet.

Mr. Billy Vong Kuok Veng is Macau's experienced ITO who has been supporting the world's biggest competitions with his experiences and also trying to develop the sport in his country.

59 60 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Following his strong efforts Macau sent one boxer to the last edition of the Asian Games which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia last August.

Macau launched women boxing in the country in 2004 but in the recent years they were not able to box internationally in the female part of the sport. In the 2017 edition of the Macau Open Boxing Championships women boxing was returned to the ring and following that two female weight classes were scheduled in the new competition.

The first female gold medal of the whole Macau Open Boxing Championships was achieved by Chan Man Man who defeated China’s Chen Yumen in a hectic final at the featherweight (57kg). The second title in the women’s part of the Macau Open Boxing Championships was captured by Jessie Cheng who was slightly better than China’s Li Shursong in the final of the elite lightweight (60kg).

The men’s elite boxers could attend in the Macau Open Boxing Championships in four different divisions. The first man title was taken by Wun Jun Hou of Macau who defeated China’s Zhang Reijun in the final of the bantamweight (56kg) winning the bout by split decision. Macau’s Wong Kin Tat walked over to the next gold and took the title of the lightweight (60kg) after Chan Chi Hou was unable to box against him in the final.

Leong Kin Fung impressed in the final of the light welterweight (64kg) and triumphed over Chan Yuen Fan for the third men’s gold medal in the Macau Open Boxing Championships. The last title of the event was taken by Chang Ka Chon who defeated Kuan Jun Sam in the final of the men’s welterweight (69kg).

60 61 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER Aye, Nelly and Nwe made the women part of the Myanmar National President's Cup stronger

Following the 46th edition of the Myanmar State & Division Boxing Tournament the National President's Boxing Cup was held in Yangon. Myanmar's top women boxers such as Aye Nyein Htoo, Nelly Bawy Nei Sin, Pyae Phyo Wai and Nwe Ni Oo all impressed in the National President's Cup.

The competition is one of most important tournaments in Myanmar and all of their best boxers attended in the National President's Cup in Yangon. Twelve new female and male champions have been crowned in the national event and the level of the women competition was high in Yangon.

Nay Pyi Taw hosted the 2013 Southeast Asian Games where Myanmar was able to get gold medal in the boxing tournament. Myanmar attended in the Kuala Lumpur 2017 Southeast Asian Games, in the Ho Chi Minh City 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Women's Boxing Championships and in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in Bangkok this July to raise the number of the experiences of their boxers.

61 62 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER The Myanmar National President's Cup was the first selection event for their boxers to the upcoming 2019 Southeast Asian Games. Women's boxers could attend from the pinweight (45kg) up to the featherweight (57kg) and five strong champions have been crowned in Yangon.

The first winner of the women's competition was Su Shar Nyo who won the gold medal at the Myanmar State & Division Boxing Tournament in September and she was able to achieve her next title quickly in Yangon. Aye Nyein Htoo won the title of the flyweight (51kg) at the Myanmar State & Division Boxing Tournament a few weeks ago and this time she shined at the light flyweight (48kg) after beating Mya Moe Thu in the final.

Southeast Asian Games bronze medallist Nelly Bawy Nei Sin is the most experienced woman boxer in Myanmar who began her career in 2009. The 25-year-old Mandalay-based boxer was too strong for all of her rivals including Nan Moe Oo in the final of the flyweight (51kg) and proved she is Myanmar's best woman hope in the international stage.

Pyae Phyo Wai claimed bronze medals in the recent national events since 2016 but this time she could win her bantamweight (54kg) in Yangon following her success over Htet Htet Khaing Oo in the final. Nwe Ni Oo won the gold medal at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games and the 24-year-old talent won her next national title after beating Nwe Oo Khaing in the final of the featherweight (57kg).

The men boxers attended in nine different weight classes from the light flyweight (49kg) up to the middleweight (75kg) in Yangon. The first title was achieved by Kyaw Hla Maung who won the Myanmar State & Division Boxing Tournament in September and repeated his performance in Yangon as well beating all of his rivals at the light flyweight (49kg).

Zaw Myint Moe attended at the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in Bangkok this July and he used up those international experiences in the final of the flyweight (52kg) when he faced with Wai Phyo Tun. Pyae Sone also attended in Thailand's main international competition on July and defeated his top national rival Min Khaing Kyaw Sar in the final of the bantamweight (56kg).

Thiha Zaw moved down to the lightweight (60kg) and won his second national title in 2018 beating Aung Naing Win in the final. Kyaw Min Oo (64kg), Myanmar's best male hope Myo Kyaw Thu (69kg) and Ye Lin Tun (75kg) all have got international experiences and won their weight classes with strong performances in Yangon.

63 64 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER The Japanese national team trained in Shymkent and prepare to the main goals of 2019

The Japanese men's elite national boxing team travelled to South Kazakhstan to the city of Shymkent to train with the local squad and prepare well to the next season. Shymkent hosted several international events in the recent years including the 2013 edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships and the Japanese national team was there in the joint training camp until December 29th.

The 88th edition of the Japanese National Boxing Championships was held in the city of Ibaraki last month and the five-day long competition delivered several world class level contests. Among the heroes of the National Boxing Championships seven boxers have been selected to attend in the training camp in Shymkent.

Japan's men's elite squad competed in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games but their young team claimed only one bronze medal in the Indonesian capital which was below their previous expectations. Japan's national boxing team has been preparing to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games where their young team could be a top sensation.

AIBA Youth World Champion and two-times ASBC Asian Youth Champion Hayato Tsutsumi suffered a hand injury in their National Boxing Championships and he was not able

64 65 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER to attend in the training camp. 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships competitor Tomoya Tsuboi moved up to the flyweight (52kg) and he was involved to the travelling team.

Two Japanese lightweight (60kg) boxers have been selected to attend in the training camp such as Asian Games Test Event silver medallist Rentaro Kimura and FISU University World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Junya Shimada.

Rio 2016 Olympian boxer Daisuke Narimatsu is the most experienced in their national squad who claimed bronze at the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games as well. The 29-year-old light welterweight (64kg) boxer defeated his main local rival Yuta Akiyama in the final of the National Championships but both were there in the training camp.

Japan's Jakarta 2018 Asian Games competitor at the welterweight (69kg) was 19-year-old Issei Aramoto who lost to Sewon Okazawa at the quarter-final in the National Championships which was a big surprise in Ibaraki. The ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist Aramoto is a teenage talent and a big prospect in Japan.

Asian Games Test Event winner promising middleweight (75kg) boxer Yuito Moriwaki was the MVP of the 88th Japanese National Boxing Championships. The 22-year-old boxer could not attend enough international competitions yet but he has all the skills to be a top boxer in the upcoming ASBC events.

65 66 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER The Press Conference of the 2019 Bir Ganeshman Singh National Boxing Championships was taking place in Kathmandu

The new edition of the Nepal National Boxing Championships will be held next year and their local organizers hold a Press Conference in Kathmandu about the preparations and importance of the competition and to inform the media members.

The official name of the event is 2019 Bir Ganeshman Singh National Boxing Championships in Nepal. The venue of the Bir Ganeshman Singh National Boxing Championships is Basantapur, Kathmandu.

The Bir Ganeshman Singh Foundation and Nepal National Sports Council are the supporters of the Nepal National Boxing Championships. The event will be held in February 5-9, 2019 which means the competition will be overlapping with the Indian Open Boxing Tournament which is scheduled to be held in the same date in Guwahati.

The Bir Ganeshman Singh National Boxing Championships was scheduled in six weight categories for women athletes: light flyweight (48kg), flyweight (51kg), bantamweight (54kg), featherweight (57kg), lightweight (60kg) and light welterweight (64kg).

66 67 ASBC NEWSLETTER 2018 DECEMBER The following eight weight categories will be held for the men boxers: light flyweight (49kg), flyweight (52kg), bantamweight (56kg), lightweight (60kg), light welterweight (64kg), welterweight (69kg), middleweight (75kg) and light heavyweight (81kg).

Altogether 10 teams are expected to take part in the Bir Ganeshman Singh National Boxing Championships next February. Seven different provinces and three armed forces team as Police, Army and Armed Police are planning to attend in the event.
