Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in camp counseling. Our population is one hundred forty boys and one hundred forty girls. Usually three counselors live in a cabin with eight-ten children. Both staff and campers come from throughout the and throughout the world.

General qualifications for staff are as follows:

1. Only college students, graduate students and teacher-coaches are considered. 2. All staff must have a genuine love for living and working with children in a camping situation. Staff live in the cabins with the campers and must be able to relate to children of all ages (ours range from seven to sixteen) in a relaxed, positive and supportive manner. When accepting a position on our staff we believe you make a commitment not only to us but to yourself for counseling and teaching are also learning. We believe camping to be a dynamic process of sharing yourself with other human beings and of accepting whatever they have to share. We believe camping is the process of participating with others in the discovery of the environment in every dimension. We believe camping is the process of creating a unique life in a unique community. Camp Wekeela is a unique community with a unique life. They are a reflection of each who live in the bunk. And you along with the campers will help to evolve what our camp community life is to become. 3. Each staff member should be skilled and qualified to teach in one or more of the areas listed on the enclosed application form. Experience in early childhood education, past camping experience or other work with children is essential. Enthusiasm, adaptability and a willingness to "pitch in" no matter what the task is important.

Staff Orientation or “Pre-Camp” training begins on or about the third Thursday in June. The season ends on or about the third Sunday in August. With the exception of the first and last week of camp each staff member has one day and up to two additional nights off per week. For further consideration please complete and return the enclosed application soon as well as the THREE enclosed reference forms found on pages 6 & 7. I am sure you will have additional questions and they will be answered when you receive your reply. We look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest regards,

Ephram A. Caflun, MSW Owner/Director Staff Application
