Sails Again!

It was the winter of 1831 and for seven weeks our fishing vessel, the , had been lost on the high seas. The captain of the local fishermen promised us riches beyond belief if we helped him locate a secret island containing pirate .

Ever since we found the treasure we couldn't seem to find the way home! The compass had been spinning in all directions, pointing north at one moment, then south at the next.

Charles, the ship's first mate, thought there was a curse on the treasure. According to the first mate, the only way to get home, to Cape Harreras, , was to throw 's loot overboard.

"Dump the treasure we found boys, it's cursed. The treasure IS haunted by Blackbeard's ghost," Charles boomed.

Blackbeard's real name was Edward Teach. He was a fierce pirate captain notorious for his frightening image and horrible deeds. Blackbeard would often put lit cannon fuses under his hat to produce a ghostly smoke as he fought.

Robert Maynard, captain of the HMS Pearl, finally brought Blackbeard to justice on November, 21 1718; however it took twenty sword slashes and five pistol shots to finally bring down Blackbeard. He died at Ocracoke Inlet after the fierce and bloody battle.

Each night, while on deck of the Mary Read, Charles would stare out over the ocean, looking for Blackbeard's ghostly ship.

"I'm telling you, as long as we have the treasure, we won't get home." Charles said. "I begged the captain not to take it, now he has, and we're all being chased by Blackbeard's ghost!"
