BEST OF BRITISH AT EATON SQUARE CONCERTS Eaton Square Concerts launches autumn 2017 season
Eaton Square Concerts announces its autumn 2017 season featuring the ‘Best of British’. The UK’s stars of the classical music scene (Tasmin Little, Emma Johnson and Freddy Kempf) are presented alongside Her Majesty The Queen’s own court musicians (The Queen’s Six) and future stars of British chamber music (Halcyon Quartet).
The season opens with Emma Johnson & Friends, a versatile string and wind group formed by “Britain’s favourite clarinettist” (The Times) Emma Johnson. They perform one of Beethoven’s most successful and popular works, his Septet, with works by Weber and Brahms. The Halcyon Quartet return after a highly successful debut in the last season of Eaton Square Concerts. The 2017 St Peter’s Prize winners present a programme of string quartet favourites including Schubert’s ‘Death and the Maiden’.
Pianist Freddy Kempf and violinist Tasmin Little are among of the UK’s leading international musicians, performing in prestigious venues across the world. Kempf’s programme includes Beethoven’s Shakesperean esque ‘Tempest’ and Robert Schumann’s exultant ‘Novelletten’. Tasmin Little is joined by pianist John Lenehan, performing a sonata by the first female composer to be awarded a Damehood, Ethel Smyth and Ravel’s virtuosic ‘Tzigane’.
The Royal Court has always attracted some of the UK’s most famous composers and musicians. Following in their footsteps, The Queen’s Six is a male a cappella ensemble drawn from the ranks of the Choir St George’s Chapel, Windsor. Their programme ‘Sous la pluie anglaise’ includes French and English sacred and secular music and ends with Bacharach and The Beach Boys!
Tickets for the spring 2017 season are now on sale, and include a complimentary glass of wine courtesy of Jeroboams.
