$322,000 for New England Volunteers

$322,000 has been allocated to 101 organisations in the New England Electorate under the 2011 Volunteer Grants Program.

The Independent Member for New England, Tony Windsor has been advised of the successful groups by the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, The Hon Jenny Macklin and her Parliamentary Secretary for Community Services, The Hon Julie Collins.

Mr Windsor has welcomed the funding that will assist groups who provide great service to their community through their members’ voluntary efforts.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our communities both large and small.

“Without volunteers, many services that communities depend on would not be available.

“They contribute greatly to the quality of life that people enjoy now.

“These volunteer grants are a small way of assisting organisations with the purchase of small equipment items, attend training courses and defray other costs that are incurred in the delivery of their service.

“The grants are also a way of recognising the efforts of many people and to say thank you to them as I also do to the Government for making the funds available.

“The money is well spent and I congratulate all the recipients on their success in this round of funding as well as thanking all volunteers for their commitment to their communities,” Mr Windsor said.

The volunteers of the Service seek to NSW 2350 Aboriginal Aboriginal improve the wellbeing of local residents by Medical Service Medical Service administering valuable medical advice and treatment and delivering educational programs on issues related to health and lifestyle. The Service encourages healthy decision making and empowers individuals and families to work together for a stronger community.

Volunteers ARMIDALE organise educational information sessions on NSW 2350 health and social issues, coordinate workshop activities where members learn skills from each other and reach out to offer support to community members in need. Ashford Local Ashford Local $5,000.00 The Ashford Local Aboriginal Land Council works 25 Albury ASHFORD Aboriginal Land Aboriginal Land towards a cohesive society based on reciprocal Street Council Council understanding and awareness by promoting the ASHFORD Indigenous culture, language and history of the NSW 2361 region. Volunteers deliver important support services to disadvantaged individuals and families in the Ashford region and also host a variety of social events to bring the community together. The Council enhances Indigenous community members' identification with their heritage and strengthens their connection to the wider community.

Ashford Ashford $5,000.00 The Ashford Showground Trust offers a Emmaville ASHFORD Showground Showground welcoming and informative environment in which Road Trust Trust community members can gather to ensure the ASHFORD continued maintenance and operation of the local NSW 2361 showgrounds. Volunteers promote the interests of Ashford and surroundinggg regions throughg the coordination of showground events, such as pony club gatherings, campdrafting events and the Annual Ashford Show. The Trust connects the members of this rural community together and helps to integrate residents from all spheres of rural life. Australian Australian $1,717.00 Country Music Foundation provides 93 Brisbane TAMWORTH Country Music Country Music an avenue for musical appreciation in the Street Foundation Foundation Tamworth community. Volunteers coordinate TAMWORTH Incorporated Incorporated educational events that bring community members NSW 2340 together and stimulate an interest in the history of country music in the Tamworth area. The Foundation builds social inclusion and community integration through a common interest in country music.

Borah Bushfire Borah Bushfire $1,648.00 Borah Bushfire Brigade serves a small, rural 106 Borah NEW MEXICO Brigade Brigade township and its residents through the provision of Road NEW emergency services. Volunteers respond to MEXICO NSW emergencies across the area, including fires, 2346 storms and car accidents, and undertake regular traininggy to help ensure the continued safety of local residents. The Brigade includes volunteers of many backgrounds and abilities who save lives and foster a safer community through their dedicated service. Boys' Club Boys' Club $4,998.00 The Boys' Club Inverell encourages children of all 47-49 Vivan INVERELL Inverell Inverell ages and abilities, including those with disability, to Street Incorporated Incorporated develop healthy, active lifestyles through INVERELL participation in sporting activity. The Club fosters social interaction and a sense of community spirit by offering an informative environment where children can develop valuable sporting and social skills.

TAMWORTH Society of NSW Volunteers are committed to the welfare of their NSW 2340 local community, participating in fundraising services and providingg practical support in the form of financial assistance, at-home support, wellness programs and accommodation and care. Through their dedicated service, the volunteers promote values of humanitarianism and collective support and offer important assistance to those affected by cancer. ComputerBank ComputerBank $3,496.00 ComputerBank comprises a group of dedicated Tip Road URALLA New England New England volunteers who strive to improve the New England URALLA NSW Incorporated Incorporated area. Volunteers organise computers for 2358 disadvantaged community members, including many Indigenous Australians, and offer computer literacy programs to help individuals gain employment skills. Through the provision of these services, the organisation encourages an integrated community and has become a valuable catalyst for social inclusion.

CWA of NSW CWA of NSW $1,455.23 The Country Women's Association of NSW aims 39-41 Burnett DELUNGRA Delungra Delungra to improve the living conditions of women and their Street Branch Branch families in regional, rural and remote Australia. DELUNGRA Volunteers from the Delungra Branch maintain NSW 2403 facilities for use by other community groups and coordinate fundraising projects that support local projects and improve town infrastructure. The CWA is a prominent and respected feature of the Delungra community that reflects and strengthens the spirit of connectedness in this rural area.

The Garden acts as a focal point for the region and ensures regular social interaction for residents, resulting in a cohesive and inclusive society. Volunteers offer assistance with meals, home maintenance and transport, as well as organisinggg recreational activities that engage elderly residents of all backgrounds and levels of mobility. By forging connections and supporting a dynamic outlook, the Outlet encourages elderly community members to retain their independence and adopt healthy, active lifestyles. Inverell HACC Inverell HACC $1,500.00 Inverell HACC Services is a community-based 48 Oliver Street INVERELL Services Services organisation that offers assistance to individuals INVERELL Incorporated Incorporated and families living with Dementia. Volunteers NSW 2360 provide a forum in which Dementia patients and their carers can discuss their experiences and develop vital support networks. The Service helps to ensure that Dementia sufferers, their families and carers have access to the necessary resources to assist them during times of hardship.

Inverell Pipe Inverell Pipe $3,395.00 Inverell Pipe Band provides an artistic forum for Ring Street INVERELL Band Band self-expression and musical appreciation in the INVERELL Incorporated Incorporated Inverell community. Volunteers make a vital NSW 2360 contribution to the success of the Band by coordinating rehearsals and performances and encouraginggg participation from communityy members of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. The Band promotes a socially inclusive community where musicians can showcase their talents and bond through a common interest, and brings local residents together through musical entertainment. Inverell Pony Inverell Pony $4,750.00 The Inverell Pony Club promotes the physical, 6 Tingha Road INVERELL Club Club mental and intellectual development of young INVERELL Incorporated Incorporated people through participation in equine activities. The Club engages volunteers and residents from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and creates a more cohesive community.

The Brigadegy is a community hub, hostingg recreational events at its headquarters, maintaining a presence during emergencies and creating a positive force during disaster recovery. Lake Keepit Lake Keepit $1,500.00 Lake Keepit Sailing Club is a community-oriented Keepit Dam SOMERTON Sailing Club Sailing Club organisation that promotes sailing to people of Road Incorporated Incorporated varying ages and abilities from all socio-economic SOMERTON and cultural backgrounds. Volunteers ensure a NSW 2340 safe and welcoming environment where individuals and families can develop a sense of inclusion and participate in recreational and competitive sailing activities.
