There are mainline train links direct from to Harbour railway station, which is right next to the Gosport Ferry pontoon. Then it’s simply a short 5 minute scenic ferry trip across the harbour to Gosport.

Come by yacht, and there’s a choice of three excellent, deep water, fully equipped marinas.

There are ferry connections with France & Spain (Brittany Ferries: www.brittany-ferries.co.uk ) plus the (Wightlink: www.wightlink.co.uk & : www.hovertravel.co.uk ) and the Channel Islands (Condor Ferries: www.condorferries.co.uk).

Find out what lurks beneath the waves at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum. Take a tour of Britain’s only surviving WW2 era ocean-going submarine to discover what it was like to live and work on a submarine.

Learn about the weapons used by the Royal Navy at Explosion! - Museum of Naval Firepower. This award winning museum showcases the many different weapons used by the navy throughout the centuries.

Follow the 2 mile Waterfront Trail that links these two sites to enjoy spectacular views across taking in the Falkland Gardens and the ‘Timespace’ sundial.

The Museum of Diving was voted one of the top six family-friendly museums in the UK, and its exhibits cover all aspects of underwater diving: with military, commercial and recreational diving equipment on display, including some used by James Bond!

You can see more James Bond equipment at the Hovercraft Museum, which has the hovercraft that featured in the opening chase sequence from ‘Die Another Day’. Plus there are plenty of other hovercraft on display, including ones from the ‘Top Gear’, ‘Scrapheap Challenge’ and ‘Salvage Squad’ TV programmes.

Moving away from the maritime theme, take a wander through the 1642 Living History Village to see ‘villagers’ dressed in period costumes demonstrating the skills of the blacksmith, lace-makers and weavers.

17 Gosport Waterfront

Out and About

Gosport Waterfront is an attraction in its own right. Overlooking the harbour entrance, there is a constant bustle of yachts, ferries and warships sailing in and out, with the Falkland Gardens providing a great vantage point. Spread along the waterfront, and especially within the three marinas, you’ll find a choice of waterfront bars and restaurants to relax in.

Stokes Bay is noted for its remarkable flora and many varieties of birds, whilst the Gilkicker lagoons are a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest. This open natural area is a delight for walkers.

The countryside of the Alver Valley and Wildgrounds offers good cycle routes and a range of countryside walks and trails suitable for all abilities and ages.

Across the Harbour is Portsmouth. Take the Gosport Ferry to get there - it’s only a 5 minute crossing. Here you will find Gunwharf Quays with its outlet shopping, restaurants, cinema and the stunning 170 metre Emirates Spinnaker Tower with its unforgettable views. HMS Victory, The Mary Rose and HMS Warrior 1860 and the National Museum of the Royal Navy are all close by in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
