The first ID WorldChampionships held in Cologne in November 2017 is worthy of mention here. The introduction of the event came about because of thevision and foresight of agroup of passionate people from severalcountries in Europe including GB.The event wasagreat success and has given a boost to the development of judo forplayers with an intellectual disability. British Judo wassuccessfully represented at theevent mainly thankstothe efforts of KerryTanseywho playeidan mportant role not only in the organising of theevent but also in managing the British Team. LookingForward At theend of thefirstyearofour current funding cycle, the first annual reviewsubmittedtoSport Englandwas approved, despiteushavingfallen shortofsome our participation targets. We face some difficultchallenges in this funding cycledue to the focus on ‘activities and an activelifestyle’and less on core sports activity. Akey part of developing the sportwill be to improve our understandingofhow the sportinglandscape is changing and what thechallenges and barrierspeople todayface. This will help us provide, and develop better, moretargeted opportunities fordevelopment. To achieve the outcomes we seek, itiscritical that we recruit, retain and develop the people in our sport. We must ensurethe entirejudo community, coaches, technical officials and volunteers, whether they arepaid or voluntaryhas theright knowledge, skills and experiencetodevelop and deliver high-quality judo experiences that will inspirepeople of all ages to get involved, develop and achieve their potential. Acknowledgement andAppreciation We gratefully acknowledge the supportwereceivefromSportEnglandand themanyother agencies andorganisations that provide directsupportfor our coaches, players and volunteers.
