The 51st State Legislature's Second Regular Session will begin on Monday, January 13, 2014. The opening day will include the Governor's Annual State of the State Address.

House and Senate Legislative Water Committee membership will stay the same as last session with the exception of newly appointed member, Senator Carlyle Begay, who replaced Senator Jack Jackson, Jr.

Through CAP's Legislative Outreach efforts, every member of both committees, with the exception of Rep. Catherine Miranda, have been personally briefed on CAP operations and issues and every one, with the exception of Sen. Begay and Rep. Miranda, have been to CAP for a Control Center and helicopter tour. In addition, several other members of the Legislature and staff have been briefed as part of our ongoing outreach activities.

The internal Legislative Review Committee, comprised of CAP staff from various departments, has been appointed for the 2014 session. The Committee will begin meeting in early January to review bills and amendments for technical impacts to CAP operations.

To date, there have been 52 legislative bills that have been pre-filed for the upcoming session, many of which are technical correction bills. The Business Planning and Governmental Programs staff will review every bill and amendment and work with the Legislative Review Committee to analyze which issues could impact CAP operations and require guidance and direction from the Board's Public Policy Committee.
