Among these Next Week: Lent and Fasng we find clear evidence of Jesus as a person of prayer. The four Gospels surface different forms of prayer in the life of Jesus. They reveal four places that Jesus prayed: Pilgrimage with Fr. Tim Wezner in the temple for worship; in the synagogue for daily morning and evening prayer with the community; in small groups with his apostles, disciples, friends and family; and, in private by himself. Temple: The Gospel of Luke begins and ends at the temple in Jerusalem. Jesus is in Jerusalem at the me of great fesvals. He parcipates in songs, psalms, scripture readings, offerings of sacrifice and other forms of worship. It is interesng to note that Jesus has many harsh words to say about the leaders of the temple, yet he never has any problem with the prayer of the temple. “Today we had an early morning to try and beat rush hour traffic out of Amman to head to our first site, the Jordan River, at the tradional spot that R Synagogue: Jesus was a devout Jew. STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS A theme of sacrifice connects today’s First and Second Readings. In the Book of Genesis, Sarah and are blessed in their elderly years with their only son, . God tests Abraham by asking him to sacrifice Isaac. As Abraham is about to comply, a messenger from heaven stops him. To upli the Chrisan community in Rome, St. Paul reminds his brothers and sisters that God sacrificed His only Son for the good of all. In St. Mark’s Gospel account of the Transfiguraon, God the Father clearly acknowledges Jesus as His Son. Jesus then alludes to Peter, James, and John of His death and Resurrecon. Our own giving of the “first fruits” of our me, talent, and treasure back to God, to our parish, and to our neighbor, are solid acts of Chrisan charity. Sacrifice brings great peace, joy, and grace to those who embrace stewardship as a way of life. This Lent, reflect on how you can use your GodRgiven gi s as a teacher, reader, Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, evangelist, administrator, leader, or other minister in your parish or school to build the Kingdom of God. © Archdiocese of Detroit WWW.STHUGO.ORG 14 ST.
