Description West Holme House is a delightful period property believed to date from the late 17th Century (there is a dated terracotta plaque on the porch indicating 1692). Constructed with most attractive brick elevations under a tiled roof with stone eaves courses, the house and pretty front boundary wall are Grade II Listed as being of Architectural or Historic Interest. The property has been within the ownership of the same family since 1973. It offers accommodation of great charm, although this is now in need of some modernisation and improvement. There are two fine brick fireplaces in the spacious drawing room which was formerly two rooms. In the dining room, the fireplace has an exquisite 18th Century carved wood surround. There are some flagstone floors, a wealth of exposed beams and a Rayburn cooker in the kitchen/ breakfast room. There is oil fired central heating. There are attractive windows with glazing bars, many of which enjoy far reaching views to the Purbeck hills. Outside are some useful outbuildings, together with a private garden and a small paddock. Situation The house is located in the hamlet of West Holme. Nearby is a lovely Manor House and also “Holme for Gardens”, a farm shop and garden centre. There are an excellent range of amenities just three miles away in Wareham which is one of Dorset’s loveliest market towns, known as the Gateway to the Isle of Purbeck. These include supermarkets, restaurants, public houses, library, churches and the Rex cinema. The highly regarded Priory Hotel, which dates from the 16th Century, fronts onto the River Frome and the Church of St Martin is one of the oldest in the County, with parts dating from the early 11th Century. There are excellent schools in the area, whilst sporting facilities include fishing (subject to permit) on the River Frome and three golf courses within easy reach at Wareham, the Dorset Golf and Country Club and the Isle of Purbeck. There are bathing beaches at and (both approximately 12 miles) and a full range of water sports are within easy reach along the Dorset coast with the large sheltered harbour at Poole, and the sea at Cove just 6 miles away. Communications in the area include a mainline railway station at Wareham, the journey to London Waterloo taking approximately 2¼ hours.

Outside There is a parking area in front of the two storey brick built former stable which now provides garaging with boarded storage space above. Behind this is a workshop, a garden room with sliding patio doors and an implement shed. In front of the house is a small lawned area with pretty brick boundary wall and gate piers. Immediately behind the house is a paved terrace looking over the rear garden. This is laid to lawn with a pretty stone wall running along its length, beyond which is a further lawned area and a mature hedge. On the western side of the house is a boiler room housing the oil fired boiler and nearby is the oil storage tank. Beyond the formal garden, a gate opens onto a further extensive lawned area with a small orchard and some former pigsties. Adjoining the orchard is a small enclosed paddock which also has vehicular access from the nearby road. The grounds extend in total to about 1.1 acres.
