SPECIFICATION FOR THE SUPPLY OF MONO ADVERTS IN DIGITAL FORMAT/ISDN DIRECT TO INDEPENDENT NEWSPAPERS

This specification provides guidelines for the establishment of good working practices in the creation of advertisements to be supplied to Independent News & Media.

By following these procedures, the full benefit of supplying in digital format - optimum quality of reproduction and maximum efficiency for the advertiser in the timing and cost of delivery of advertisements -can be achieved.

Should you require any further information, advice or assistance regarding the digital supply of advertising, please contact one of our staff listed.

This specification relates to the supply of mono advertising materials in digital format for the following publications:

Irish Independent Sunday Independent Farming Independent Property Independent Evening Herald and all relevant supplements. BLACK & WHITE SPECIFICATIONS BLACK & WHITE SPECIFICATIONS BLACK & WHITE SPECIFICATIONS

TYPEFACES • We recommend the use of Sans Serif typefaces for clarity. Fine serif typefaces should be avoided • For clarity and legibility, we recommend 12 point type or larger. • Truetype or Multiple Master fonts are not supported.

REVERSE TYPE • Due to the nature of the newspaper printing process, the minimum point size for reverse out text is 12pt Bold for mono advertising, 14pts for colour. • Fine serif typefaces should be avoided in reverses. Fonts with fine lines tend to fill in with ink during the printing process especially when using colour. • Reverse out text using colour should not be of more than 2 colours.

The following file naming convention should be adhered to when supplying Quickcut files; Publication, Insertion Date, Name of Advertiser, Size of Ad Space. The following publication codes should be used:

IIND IIND Farming Independent IIND Property Independent IIND Recruitment Advertising SIND Sunday Independent HEVH Evening Herald

The file must be named with the appropriate URN (Unique Reference Number) . All necessary fields within the Quickcut copy instruction should be completed. The Special Instructions field should include the name and telephone number of the supplier.

Please Take Note of the following when filling out the Quickcut job Ticket

1) The URN, which up to now has been 3, 4, 5 or 6 numeric characters, is now always 6 digit based. Even if the URN has only 3 characters it is necessary to precede these figures with leading zeros. i.e. ad number 123 becomes 000123; Ad number of 3456 becomes 003456 etc. 2) This 6 character code must be filled in the URN field within the Quickcut job ticket. The file itself must also be named as the URN. At present we have 3 codes. IIND for Independent, HEVH for Herald; SIND for Sunday. If the fields are filled in with codes such as Indo, or Her, the file will again fail validation and MUST be resent. 4) The insertion date must be correct.
