Japanese Petrochemical Industry Delegation Visits

A 16-member delegation of the Japan Petrochemical Industry Association (JPCA), CPMA’s counterpart in Japan and member of APIC, visited India during December 2-6, 2012. The delegation comprised of senior representatives from Japanese chemical and petrochemical companies like Asahi Kasei Chemicals, Mitsubishi, Mitsui, Showa Denko, Sumitomo, JX Nippon, etc. and was led by Mr Masanao Nomoto, Director, Asahi Kasei Chemicals and coordinated by Mr. Masami Hata, General Manager, JPCA.

The Japanese delegation had a meeting with members of CPMA and Indian Chemical Council (ICC) on December 5, 2012 in Mumbai. Both CPMA and ICC made presentations on the chemicals and petrochemicals industry in India, current scenario and future outlook, key growth drivers like infrastructure and other major user sectors and activities of the associations, new initiatives and potential areas for cooperation with JPCA. CPMA’s presentation also highlighted successful India-Japan joint initiatives in the past as well as on-going projects like the Delhi Mumbai Freight Corridor. JPCA also made a brief presentation on the current state of the Japanese economy and trends. The presentations were followed by an interactive question- answer session between the 2 sides and both the sides evinced keen interest in further exploring areas of cooperation in the future.

Earlier, one of the CPMA member companies – RIL – organized a visit for the delegation to its world class refinery and petrochemical complex in Jamnagar on 3rd December 2012 and the Japanese delegation members were impressed with the scale and operations of the facilities.
