1 Special Auction Spring 2019

Ocracoke Meeting 29 March

North Carolina Shell Club Special Auction, Ocracoke NC, March 29, 2019 2 Special Auction Spring 2019 This Auction features shells from the Michael Collection. Proceeds of the auction will go to support the operating budget of North Carolina Shell Club including meeting space rental and the Shell Show. The Michael Collection was willed to the North Carolina Shell Club by Mrs. Jerrold Michael. Josh and his sister Clair Michael work on behalf of their mother with Richard Goldberg (Worldwide Specimen Shells) to transfer the collection to the club. Rich was integral to the club receiving this fine collection. Everett Long met Rich halfway be- tween their homes, at Smithfield, Virginia to receive the collection for the club. It is obvious the many moving parts to the collection coming to the Shell Club. When you next see any of people integral to this story please do give them a special thank you. The wish of the donors is that the shells be sold to collectors, especially members of North Caro- lina Shell Club that they may be enjoyed and studied. Additional shells from the collection will be featured in our November auction as well as silent auctions throughout the coming year. This auction includes shells for all budgets. All are excellent candidates for additions to our cabinets. John Timmerman, Auctioneer

Bidding On the night of the auction if you wish to bid you must register to do so. You will receive a bidder number and a card with that number on it. Holding your card up indicates a bid. When you are the winner be sure the auctioneer can see your card so that he can repeat your number for treasurer to record that you (bidder number) are the winner and for how much. At the close of the auction you pay the cashier for your shells. Payment accepted is cash or check made out to North Carolina Shell Club. If you cannot attend the meeting but want to bid you may arrange with someone who will be there to proxy bid for you. Your proxy will be responsible for paying for winnings at the close of the auction

Note on sizes of shells I used a mechanical dial caliper to measure the shells. To avoid misrepresenting the shells in I measure to the nearest 1/10 millimeter. I round down if slightly higher of a given 1/10 millimeter as attempting a more pre- cise figure with shells leaves too much room for error.
