2016-17 UNION DUTCHMEN HOCKEY TEAM NOTES POWER RANGERS Union is 6-for-13 (46.2%) on the power play over the last three games, which leads Division I. Brett Supinski has three power-play tallies and four power-play points in that span, while Sebastian Vidmar has scored two power-play goals and added two power-play assists. FASHIONABLY late The Dutchmen netted their eighth third period game-winning goal of the season on Saturday, which ties them with Air Force and Ver- mont for the most in Division I. Union also leads the country with 21 goals, 34 assists, 56 points and six game-winning goals in the final five minutes of the third. Ryan Scarfo is winning a team-best 62.0% of his faceoffs, which ranks ninth in DI, while Mike Vecchione is second on the team and tied for 12th in the country at 61.6%, leading the nation with 362 faceoff wins.

FOO, SAKELLAROPOULOS TAKE HOME WEEKLY ECAC HOCKEY HONORS Spencer Foo was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, while Alex Sakellaropoulos was named the Goaltender of the Week for their performances in Union’s weekeend sweep of Dartmouth and Harvard. - Foo, who was also named the NCAA Hockey Second Star of the Week for the second time this season, tied for the Division I high with five points (3G-2A) and a 2.50 points per game average last week (2G-3A), registering a point on five of Union’s six goals over the weekend. He extended his Division I-best point streak to 21 games with a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win against No. 2/3 Harvard, tallying the game-winning goal. - Sakellaropoulos, who received the award for the third time this season, stopped 65 of 67 shots over the weekend. He led ECAC Hockey and ranked tied for third in Division I with .970 save percentage and tied for 7th with a 1.00 goals-against average. He boasts the best win percentage against conference opponents in Division I (.875), while his 15 wins on the season (15-3-1) are tied for the Division I high. THE BIG THREE Union’s top line of Vecchione, Foo and Sebastian Vidmar is averaging 4.70 points per game. The trio has combined for 108 points on 44 goals and 64 assists, also producing 12 power-play goals and nine game-winning goals. Foo (+27) and Vecchione (+24) also rank 1-2 in plus-minus. KIND OF A BIG DEAL Vecchione and Foo are among the nation’s leaders in almost every major offensive category. Vecchione, who became the 13th 100-point scorer in Union’s Division I era last season, is the NCAA Division I active leader in career points (154) and ranks second in career goals (60) and career assists (94) and tied for third in shorthanded goals (6).

Bennett owns a five-year record of 128-64-29 (.645), becoming the third Union hockey coach to reach 100 career victories with the Dutchmen’s 5-3 win against then third-ranked Boston University on Oct. 10, 2015. He holds a 22-6 postseason record and is 15-6 in the ECAC Hockey Tournament. He has also won 60 percent of his league games in ECAC Hockey (66-39-17). Bennett’s record against nationally-ranked teams stands at 45-24-11 (.631).

In just his third season behind the helm, Bennett led Union to its first-ever NCAA Division I Championship, as top-ranked Union defeated second-ranked Minnesota, 7-4, on April 12, 2014 before 18,742 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

For his efforts, Bennett was named recipient of the 2014 Spencer Penrose Award as well as the National Coach of the Year by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). Bennett completed the hat trick of major awards by also receiving Coach COACH BENNETT AT A GLANCE of the Year honors from College Hockey News and U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO). COLLEGIATE COACHING EXPERIENCE In 2014-15, Bennett led the Dutchman program to its eighth-straight Assistant Coach, Providence College (2000-05) winning season, producing a 19-win campaign. Union also captured its Assistant Coach, Union College (2005-07) first-ever road playoff series win (a sweep at Cornell), advancing to the Associate Head Coach, Union College (2007-11) ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals for the eighth consecutive year. The team also spent 10 weeks in the national polls and defeated five nationally- COACHING HONORS ranked opponents. Union defeated Rensselaer, 8-3, in the Capital Spencer Penrose Award (2014) District Mayor’s Cup, improving Bennett’s record against RPI to 11-3. American Hockey Coaches Association National Coach of the Year (2014) College Hockey News Coach of the Year (2014) The 2013-14 season was unprecedented in Union’s 63 years of varsity USCHO Coach of the Year (2014) hockey. In addition to capturing the national title, Union finished with Tim Taylor Award - ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year (2012) the most wins (32) and top winning percentage (.810) in the country. Union reached the No. 1 position in both national polls for the first time CAREER RECORD in the school’s 23-year Division I history and spent 16 weeks ranked in the top 10. YEAR OVERALL ECAC PLACE POSTSEASON 2016-17 16-5-2 10-1-1 - - Union closed the season with a 17-game unbeaten streak (16-0-1), 2015-16 13-14-9 6-10-6 9th 0-2 which also included a school-record 12-straight wins. The Dutchmen 2014-15 19-18-2 8-13-1 8th 3-2 did not lose a game in February, March or April, going a perfect 8-0 in 2013-14 32-6-4 18-3-1 1st 8-0 the postseason. Earlier in the season, Union strung together a 10-game 2012-13 22-13-5 10-8-4 4th 5-1 unbeaten streak (9-0-1) and a nine-game win streak. The Garnet and 2011-12 26-8-7 14-4-4 1st 6-1 White also won their last 12 games at Messa Rink. TOTALS 128-64-29 66-39-17 - 22-6 In clinching its second ECAC Hockey regular season crown in three seasons, Union set school records for conference wins (18) and points (37), scoring a league-high 83 goals (3.77 gpg) while surrendering a league-low 42 goals (1.91 gpg). Over the course of the season, Union won 12 season series (eight against league opponents).

Bennett was a four-year letterwinner (1986-90) and co-captain at Providence, where he was recognized as a Hobey Baker finalist (1990) and two-time winner of the Lou Lamoriello Trophy as team MVP. He was named an All-American during the 1988-89 season and earned All-Hockey East Second Team honors in 1990. A left-winger, Bennett finished with 134 points (50 goals, 84 assists) in 128 career games and was inducted into the Providence College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
