DISTRICT PROFILE Home TamilNadu Map Dharmapuri District Profile Print DHARMAPURI DISTRICT PROFILE TAMILNADU • Dharmapuri district is bounded by Krishnagiri district in the North, Tiruvannamalai and Villuppuram districts in the East, Salem ARIYALUR district in the South and R.Cauvery in the west. • The District lies between 11º47'40’’N to 12º33’40’’ N Latude, 77º33'30’’E to 78º40'00’’E Longitude and has an areal extent of 4498 COIMBATORE sq.km. CUDDALORE • There are 8 Blocks, 251 Villages and 3445 Habitaons in the District. DHARMAPURI Physiography and Drainage: DINDIGUL • Major rivers of the district are the Cauvery River and Ponnaiyar. R. Cauvery originang from Karnataka State enters the district at ERODE Hogenekkal, and drains into the Meur Dam in Salem district. KANCHIPURAM • Ponnaiyar is the other major river draining the district and is ephemeral in nature. It originates from Nandhi hills in Karnataka, enters Tamil Nadu west of Bagalur and flows almost in a south easterly direcon ll it reaches Doddampa from where it takes an easterly KANYAKUMARI course. KARUR • Pambar, Vaniyar and Kallar are the important tributaries of Ponnaiyar draining the eastern part of the district whereas the Chinnar and Markandeya Nadhi drain the northern part of the district.
