FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR It’s nearly autumn, which means a new season at Perseverance Theatre. Welcome! In Anchorage, it is our fifth year offering subscription seasons for you, and the thirty- seventh season since Perseverance’s founding in Juneau in 1978. As Perseverance “ ...we are just looks forward to the 40th anniversary season we can see how far the theatre has come, thanks to your warm welcome to Anchorage five years ago, and all who keep as excited about the seats full, purchase subscriptions, and make donations. Last season, Perseverance offered the theatre and theatre lovers throughout the state much to celebrate. Perseverance Theatre achieved a goal of 24,000 audience the work we are members statewide, and met the theatre’s million-dollar Fourth Decade Challenge on time. You, our subscribers, donors, and audience members, are the reason we are presenting as able to grow as we have. Thank you! This year, we have exciting new challenges and opportunities. Perseverance is we are about producing six plays on the mainstage, including Annapurna, and five of them will play in both Juneau and Anchorage. The theatre is continuing its process of investing more in Alaskan actors and artists: We now have two actors-in-residence and a full-time the process of production stage manager on our staff. One of the other changes we are happy to announce is a shift in our arrangement with Actor’s Equity Association. This year, Perseverance begins a trial transition to the “Small Professional Theatre” agreement creating it.” with Actor’s Equity, which allows the theatre to issue union contracts more easily and give Alaskan actors a way into union membership via their work with Perseverance Theatre. Of course, we are just as excited about the work we are presenting as we are about the process of creating it. This season is full of drama, literature, comedy, and delight with Annapurna; Othello; A Christmas Carol; Our Voices Will be Heard; In the Next Room, or the vibrator play; and Sweeney Todd. We are also in different stages of development of some groundbreaking new works. You may have had the opportunity to attend readings of Into the Wild, or House of Dreams this summer. We have more new Alaskan plays in the pipeline than ever. Just this summer, Perseverance was honored to become a core member of a national organization dedicated to the american playwright, National New Play Network. We are one of only 31 core member Theatres nationwide to receive core membership, a great testament to the theatre’s long commitment to new writers. Subscribing is the best way to know what’s happening first and have the opportunity to see more amazing theatre by and for Alaskans. As more of you in Anchorage subscribe, the theatre will continue to be able to support professional actors in , commission new plays about Alaska, and develop new audiences for Alaskan theatre. Information about subscriptions are in the lobby and online at PTalaska.org.

Enjoy Annapurna, and see you in the lobby!

I expected him to have done the role at least once because he is such a big man and great actor. In addition to the time being FUNDERS right for Bostin to take on this demanding role, Of Mice and Men touched on themes 2015 - 2016 Season that are so resonant today: the values of physical work, of friendship between men, and the price men pay when life is purchased by the hour. The story explores what Grantors $50,000+ makes us human, expressing feelings such as loneliness and hunger, fear of want, and Andrew W Mellon Foundation our need for companionship. City & Borough of Juneau A few months later, Kevin T Bennet showed up at an Anchorage audition to read for the part of Lennie’s friend George. It was a terrific audition, and Kevin got the part. Ulysses, the cowboy poet in Annapurna, is a challenge to cast because of his Leaders $25,000-$49,999 combination of physical decay, poetic eloquence, and an eclectic emotional range.
