70 OUR BOARD LEADERSHIP Dear Donors and Friends,

Feeling and expressing gratitude takes a lot of work. You have to be present in the moment, and deliberately decide to acknowledge what makes you feel good or feel happy. Taking it one step further, after acknowledging something you are grateful for, you have to take action to express it. How many times has someone gone the extra mile for you, and you thought to yourself, “I should write them a thank you card” or “I should get them a gift?” How many times have you actually done it?

At Meridian Health Foundation we have so much to be grateful for. The pages within are dressed with the faces and stories of so many people who took what they had, and shared it with others. These people gave so others could have a better experience. Whether the gift supported major construction projects like HOPE Tower at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, the medical-surgical suite at Ocean Medical Center’s Southwest Pavilion, the new Cancer Care Centers at Riverview Medical Center or Southern Ocean Medical Center, and the upcoming enhanced emergency services at Bayshore Medical Center and Raritan Bay Medical Center, or other important initiatives throughout Hackensack Meridian Health, every dollar plays a part in improving patient outcomes.

In 2017, 8,639 people donated more than $38 million towards our Giving Heals campaign. We hope you will join us in recognizing all the amazing people around us, and the sincere impact of their generosity. We are deeply grateful. And we have been inspired to start each day with a grateful heart.

Thank you.

But that didn’t mean members of his family couldn’t check in on him regularly. Thanks to the NICVIEW® web camera system, funded by generous donors, Emmanuel’s family could log-in from anywhere around the world to make sure the little guy was doing alright.

This technology brings families together with no boundaries, and those moments are cherished during some of the most challenging times.

Beyond Emmanuel’s family, people logged in to K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital’s NICVIEW® camera stream more than 42,000 times in one year. These log-ins came from 19 countries around the world.

Jessica Jankech, a local teacher of the blind from Piscataway School District brought several kids from her class. She described, “When I planned the field trip, I wanted to give my students the opportunity to enjoy a great performance by a successful singer who, like them, is blind. What they ended up getting from it, I can’t even put into words. The event was so much more than I had hoped for!” Jankech, shared one story from the day, “When Scott walked up to the podium I told the boys he was using a cane. One student proudly reached toward the floor, picked up his cane, and held it up in solidarity throughout the entire performance.”

Philanthropy made this moment possible. We are all so grateful. Students from Piscataway School District pictured with Scott MacIntyre (second from left), former American Idol finalist. Supporting women’s health at Hackensack Meridian Health
