.12.2018 NATIONAL The cabinet.2018 today passed a resolution to increase the reservation quota for Other Backward Classes from 14% to 27%.  This is set to take.11.2018 the total reservation in the state to 63%, including the reservations for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes.  However, 10% quota for the economically weaker sections takes the total to 73%. Government to consider reconstitution of cabinet committees  The Government has reconstituted eight Cabinet Committees.  These are Appointments Committee, Committees on Accommodation, Economic Affairs, Parliamentary Affairs, Political Affairs, Security, Investment and Growth and Cabinet Committee on Employment and Skill Development.  Cabinet Secretariat said in a press release that the Cabinet Committee on Security will have Prime Minister NarendraModi, Defence Minister , Home Minister , Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs NirmalaSitharaman and External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar.  Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has Prime Minister Modi and Mr Shah.  While Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth will have the Prime Minister and Ministers of Home, Road Transport and Highways, Finance and Corporate Affairs and Railways and Commerce and Industry. Prime Minister approved the reconstitution of government think-tank NITI Aayog.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reconstituted the federal policy think-tank National Institution of Transforming (NITI) Aayog by introducing key Cabinet ministers as members as ex- officio members.The name of Bibek Debroy, who was full-time member when Niti Aayog was formed, has been dropped.  The reconstituted NITI Aayog comprises the following members:  Chairman: Prime Minister ,Vice Chairperson: Rajiv Kumar  Ex-Officio Members: Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitaraman and  Special Invitees: , , Thawar Chand Gehlot and  Full-time Members: V. Mumbai has World‟s Worst Traffic Flow; Delhi at Fourth Spot: TomTom Report  Mumbai has the worst traffic flow in the world and ranks first in the „Traffic Index-2018‟, with a congestion level of 65 percent, as per a study compiled by location technology specialist TomTom.  Mumbai has held on to the top rank for the second consecutive year. is placed fourth in the list with a congestion of 58 percent.  Bogota (63 percent), Lima (58 percent) and Moscow (56 percent) are the rest three cities in the top five most congested cities in the world. Dzükou Valley, Nagaland becomes Plastic Free Zone on World Environment Day  In Nagaland, the scenic Dzükou Valley has become Plastic Free Zone on the occasion of World Environment Day.  The much-appreciated initiative on declaring this scenic valley as a „plastic-free zone‟ was taken by Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO). INTERNATIONAL Russia launched the first Arctic train service „Zarengold‟  The first tourist train travelling through Russia's Arctic region and on to Norway set off from St. Petersburg station (Russia) with 91 passengers aboard for the inaugural trial journey.  The tourists came from seven countries including the US, Germany, Norway and Russia.  The train, named, Zarengold, complete with two restaurant cars will travel from Saint Petersburg.

Global Entrepreneurship .12.2018Summit 2019 Held in The Hague, Netherlands  The ninth edition .2018 of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit was held in The Hague, Netherlands from June 3-5, 2019. For the first time, the event was held in European Union.  About 1,200 entrepreneurs.11.2018 from across 140 countries, including 33 from India, participated in the Summit to deliberate on the five global challenges surrounding water, agriculture, healthcare, connectivity, and energy. Nigeria‟s Ambassador to the UN Tijjani Muhammad-Bande Elected 74th UNGA President  The Nigerian Ambassador to the United Nations, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, has been elected as the president of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).  The 61-year-old succeeds Ecuardorian María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés whose year long tenure ended on June 5, 2019.  The 74th session of the 193-member UN General Assembly (UNGA 74) will begin on 17 September 2019. Estonia, Niger, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Tunisia, Vietnam Elected as Non-Permanent Members of UNSC  The UN General Assembly has elected Estonia, Niger, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Tunisia and Vietnam as the non-permanent members of UN Security Council for a two year term beginning January 1, 2020.  The Security Council is the most powerful organ of the UN and consists of 15 members including five permanent members (China, France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States), and 10 non-permanent members who are elected for two-year terms by the General Assembly.  Currently, Belgium, Cte d‟Ivoire, Dominican Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Germany, Indonesia, Kuwait, Peru, Poland and South Africa. are the non-permanent members. ECONOMY Second Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy, 2019-20  The monetary policy committee (MPC), headed by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, has decided to reduce key repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.75 percent from 6.0 percent with immediate effect.  Repo rate – 5.75 percent  Reverse repo rate – 5.50 percent  Marginal standing facility (MSF) rate – 6.0 percent  Bank Rate – 6.0 percent ,CRR -4% and SLR -19%  GDP growth for 2019-20 is revised downwards to 7.0 percent.  Review of Charges for RBI-operated Payment Systems- In order to provide an impetus to digital funds movement, it has been decided to do away with the charges levied by the Reserve Bank for transactions processed in the RTGS and NEFT systems. Complete instructions will be issued soon.  Constitution of a Committee to Review the ATM Interchange Fee Structure– RBI will soon set up a Committee involving all stakeholders, under the chairmanship of the Chief Executive Officer, Indian Banks‟ Association (IBA), to examine the entire gamut of ATM charges and fees. IRDAI Hiked Third Party Insurance Premium for Small-Medium Cars  The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has increased the third party (TP) motor insurance premium for small and medium private cars in the range of 12-12.5 percent for 2019-20.  The TP motor insurance premium for two-wheelers and heavy vehicles has also been hiked.  The new rates will come into effect from June 16, 2019.  The new TP insurance for smaller cars (less than 1000 cc) will cost Rs. 2072 or 12% from the existing Rs. 1850. Tata Steel subsidiary launched Tree Bank in Jamshedpur  Jamshedpur Utility and Services Company (Jusco), a 100% subsidiary of Tata Steel has set up a Tree Bank in Jamshedpur on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 05, 2019.

RBI move a spot up at 10th in Gold Reserve Holding: WGC  The Reserve Bank of India has moved to rank 10th in terms of gold reserves with the central banks.  Reserve Bank has 612.6 tonnes of Gold as per Data released by World Gold Council in June 2019.  RBI has replaced the Netherlands at 10th spot.  In the ranking of March 2019, RBI was on the 11th spot. Now RBI holds 6.1% of the total gold reserves.  The United States is the top holder of Gold Reserves. World Bank signed $287 million loan agreement for the Tamil Nadu Health System Reform Programme  The , Government of Tamil Nadu (GoTN) and the World Bank have signed a $287 million loan agreement for the Tamil Nadu Health System Reform Programme.  The programme aims to improve the quality of health care, reduce the burden of non- communicable diseases (NCDs), and fill equity gaps in reproductive and child health services in Tamil Nadu. IT dept extends the deadline for employers to issue Form 16 till July 10  The Income Tax (IT) department has extended the deadline for employers to issue Form 16 TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) certificate for the financial year 2018-19 to its employees (till 10th July) 2019.  The due date of filing of TDS statement by employers to the Income Tax department in Form 24Q for the financial year 2018-19 has been extended till June 30, 2019. L&T Financial Services launches „Digital Sakhi‟ in Tamil Nadu  L&T Financial Services (LTFS) „Digital Sakhi‟ was launched in 20 villages of Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu.  It is an educational programme aimed at digital financial inclusion of rural women.
