Landscape Narrative Soldiers & Sailors Remembrance Park’s landscape features a Great Lawn (1) with amphitheater and arcing walks as its 5 central feature. Overlooking the lawn, the Honor Garden (2), with its formal parterre and tree bosque, features artifacts within planting beds, meandering pathways ABOVE: Big Bluestem cluster and fall color ABOVE: Sideoats grama and outdoor classrooms. Transitioning from the formal design framing the central axis, sweeps of ornamental grasses and perennials (3) provide habitat for bees, birds and butterflies while creating a native, low maintenance landscape. Clusters of 5 understory trees and native shrubs (4) will screen garage entrances and provide structure and backdrops. A refined palette 2 2 of groundcovers, perennials, uniform 3 3 shrubs and pleached trees (5) will reinforce the geometry of the arced walkways and complement the existing building. 4
