7. Interview a family member, neighbor, friend, or other trusted adult and ask them what their favorite song is. Listen to the song and answer the following questions below: A) Who is the artist that sings the song and what is the title of song?

B) When was the song recorded?

C) How does the song make you feel when you listen to it? Why is the song special to the person you interviewed?

D) What instruments did you hear in the song?

E) Did you hear any rhythms that you recognized in the song? Can you write the notes to the rhythm you recognized? (see the note bank below if you need help. Grades K,1, and 2 only use the first three notes)

Rhythm Music Note Bank

Quarter Note Quarter Rest Eighth Notes Triplet

Sixteenth Notes Half Note Dotted Half Note Whole Note

8. Write your own rhythm or rap using the notes from the note bank. Remember that you can create lyrics using word syllables to guide you. (Example- a one syllable word like “cat” gets a note with one sound. A two syllable word like “puppy” gets a note with two sounds, ect.) If you want to get fancy, write an ostinato and get a sibling or neighbor to perform it with you.
