Through the Intercession of St. Nicholas to the Sacred Heart of Jesus The Pilgrims Corner 3rd Sunday of Advent Zephaniah 3: 1418a Philippians 4:47 Luke 3: 1018 “” The Third Sunday of Advent Today is known as Gaudete Sunday. The expression Gaudete refers to the first word of the Entrance Antiphon, "Rejoice". are worn to emphasize our joy that is near, and we also light the rose candle on our Advent wreath. The rose color reflected in the vestments of the priest provide a visual reference to the change in the emphasis of the liturgy. During the first two weeks of Advent, the priest's purple vestments reflect a restrained theme emphasizing the Lord who is to come. Gaudete Sunday begins the joyful anticipation on the Lord who is close at hand, which is the mystery of the incarnation. The uniqueness of Gaudete Sunday in Advent (as Laetare Sunday in ), seems to mark a halfway point in the liturgical season. Advent reinforces our faith to persevere with our spiritual preparations for the Christmas season and beyond. The joy of this Gaudete Sunday, or the Sunday in Advent to rejoice, comes from appreciating the fact that our Christmas doesn’t have to be pictureperfect to be truly Christmas. Christ can come to us in our CHRISTMAS SCHEDULE imperfection. His Kingdom can begin to take root in our life today, at this moment, this year. But, we need to prepare the way for the Monday, December 24 4:00pm St. Nicholas Lord, to clear Him a straight path and He will come. Whatever the 11:00pm Sacred Heart limitations of our life, we will be able to experience the joy of His Tuesday, December 25 9:00am Sacred Heart presence. 11:00am St. Nicholas 6:00pm Sacred Heart Repentance and forgiveness are the keys to a joyfilled Christmas. ( Spanish) Without clearing a straight path for the Lord, Christmas becomes Mary, Mother of God simply a winter frolic without spiritual consequence. There are many Tuesday, January 1 9:00am Sacred Heart ways of clearing a way for the Lord and to make the point of our 11:00am St. Nicholas reflection this Sunday in a way that is very familiar these days; we 6:00pm Sacred Heart could ask ourselves: how would John the Baptist put a value on the ( Spanish) things of Christmas? The cost of Christmas presents? $1500? The Continued on page 2 Continued from page 1 cost of Christmas decorations and food? $500, maybe. Intimacy and relationship to Jesus Christ?
