Ray Giacoletti was introduced as the 26th head coach in Drake men’s basketball history during a press conference on QUICK FACTS March 28, 2013. In his first season at the helm of the Bulldogs, he led the University squad to a 10-3 start to the season that included the Fresno Location Des Moines, Iowa State Classic championship and a program-record five wins Founded 1881 in the month of November. The team finished his first season Enrollment 5,348 with a 15-16 record. Nickname Bulldogs In his second season, he coached an uneven roster that Colors Blue & White included five seniors and five freshmen to a 9-22 mark. That squad won 18-straight games to win the Director of Operations JR Blount Mountain West Conference regular-season title and recorded the best league record to date (13-1) in Video Coordinator Chris McMahon the six-year history of the league. As a result, Giacoletti was named the NABC District 13, USBWA District 8, and Mountain West Team Information Conference Coach of the Year. Sophomore center Andrew Bogut became Utah’s first consensus 2014-15 Record 9-22 National Player of the Year, winning the John R. Wooden Award, Naismith, National Association of Basketball Coaches and Associated Press Player of the Year honors. In three seasons on the Utah 2014-15 MVC Record 6-12 bench, he amassed a 54-40 record. 2014-15 H/A/N Record 8-6/1-11/0-5 Prior to taking the reins at Utah, he served as the head coach at Eastern Washington University Starters Returning/Lost 4/3 where he went 69-50 in four seasons, the best mark of any coach in the school’s NCAA Division I Letterwinners Returning/Lost 6/4 history. He guided the Eagles to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2004, as well as the Newcomers 7 Big Sky Conference regular-season and tournament titles. In each of Giacoletti’s first three years, the Eagles placed second in the Big Sky during the regular season and advanced to the tournament Program History championship game. Sophomore Reed Timmer (New Ber- lin, Wis.) scored a career high 30 points, but it wasn’t enough to push the Drake University men’s basketball past DePaul in a 74-71 loss at the Knapp Center. Timmer scored 20 of Drake’s 37 first-half points. He finished the evening shooting 7-of-11 from the field, 3-of-4 from three-point range and was 13-of-17 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Graham Woodward (Edina, Minn.) fol- lowed, finishing with 18 points along with three assists for Drake (4-5). “[Reed] Timmer took the right shots tonight,” said Drake head coach Ray Giacoletti. “He’s come a long way and has developed into a two-way player by offensively being able to shoot and help the other players.” Junior Jacob Enevold Jensen (Lun- derskov, Denmark) had a season-high 13 rebounds, six offensive, in the loss. Billy Garrett Jr. led DePaul (5-3) with 19 points and Darrick Wood had a game-high four assists. As a team, DePaul shot 57.1 percent from the field, made half of its 12 three-point attempts. and got 22 points off the bench.
