Memorandum of Understanding Between Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, And Institute of Engineering, ,

The Dean, SzuC, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India (hereinafter called IIT Roorkee) and the Dean, Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan Univ.rrity, Nepal (hereinafter IOE-TU), on behalf of their respective institutions, hereby affirm their intent by signing this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the purpose of fuithering cooperation in Jducition, research, and technology development and such academic exchanges as will be of mutual benefit to the respective institutions. Academic exchange shall be considered here to include, but not limited to: o Academic support from IIT Roorkee in development of academic programs and curriculum at IOE-TU o Faculty exchange for instruction and research programme o Reciprocal assistance for visiting staff and students o Promotion ofjoint activities such as short term courses, training and consultancy o Exchange of documents and research materials in the fields of mutual interest

Details of the implementation of any of the above programs, or those identified in future shall be negotiated between the two institutions and signed at appropriate levels. This MoU does not oblige any of the signing institutions to commit their own regular funds and I or any other resources towards its realization, however both parties will explore all possibilities to mobilize needed physical, intellectual and financial resources. This MoU shall be valid for a period of five years beginning the date of signing and can be extended or revised through mutual consent of both parties.

This MoU is prepared in two identical copies. Each party holds one original copy duly signed by the Dean, SRIC of IIT Roorkee and Dean of IOE-TU.

1. Preamble

The Indian Institute of Technolog,v Roorkee. India (hereinafter called IIT Roorkee) and The Institute of Engineering. Tribhuvan Unir,'ersity. Nepal (hereinafter IOE-TU), the two leading institutions in their respecti\-e countries. formall1' affirm their intent by signing Memorandum of Understanding (lvloU) on 07-Feb-2019 at IIT Roorkee for the purpose of furthering cooperation in education. research and technologl development and such academic exchanges as ui1l be of mutual benefit to the respective institutions. This supplementarl' Agreement forms a pan of the MoU in ertending cooperation tor.l'ards capacity building of IOE-TU in the areas of Geomatics Engineerine. The objectives of this agreement shall be as follous:

Improve the quality of education in Geomatics Engineering being at IOE- TU, through:

a. Cooperation in curriculum development b. Assistance for faculty and students exchange.

c. Exchange of publications and educational materials. d. Promotion of joint activities such as short term courses, training and consultancy services.

e. Cooperation toward academic advancement of faculty members at IOE-TU in the areas pertaining to Geomatics Engineering and in other relevant areas ll. Assist the IOE-TU in enhancing its R&D activities in various areas of Geomatics Engineering, appropriate to the needs and socio-economic realities of Nepal.

2. In order to fulfill the objectives, outlined in (1), this supplementary agreement envisagesl

a. Assistance from IIT Roorkee in curriculum development for Bachelor level course in Geomatics Engineering currently underway at , under IOE-TU and master and doctoral courses in Geomatics Engineering envisioned to be started in due course in future. b. Exchange of faculty members between IOE-TU and IIT Roorkee to support the instructional needs in specialized courses in Geomatics Engineering at Pashchimanchal Campus, Pokhara. c. Development and organization of short terms training courses by IIT Roorkee to suit the requirements of IOE-TU towards enhancing the instructional and research capacity of faculty members in the areas pertaining to Geomatics Engineering. d. Enabling and students to take part in ongoing and continuing education IIT Roorkee.

Provision forjoint supervision of Masters and Doctoral thesis of students of IoEiTU pursuing Masters and Doctoral courses in Geomatics Engineering. (, b. Identification and implementation ofjoint research technology development project in the areas of mutual interest. Development and organization of training courses/schemes for laboratory/workshop technicians.

Organization ofjoint shoft-term courses and training programs in Nepal to cater to the needs of relevant institutions and personnel. j Provision for year final undereraduate students in Geomatics Engineering at IOE-TU undergoing practical training fbr a period not exceeding 15 dals at IlT"Roorkee in nominal institutional fees.

k. Explore the possibilitl of *eb based distance education programs.

3. Modalities of cooperation 3.1 Coordination

The Dean, SRIC of IIT Roorkee and the Dean of IOE-TU shall nominate senior faculty members at their respective institutions to act as coordination on behalf of their respective institutions for the cooperation stated here above. The functions of the coordinators shall be, but not limited to as under:

Initiate actions a' at their respective end to implement the provisions of this agreement b. coordinate and monitor the activities initiated under agreement.

3.2 Join coordination committee: A joint i) coordination committee (JCC) which shall act as the steering committee for the cooperation shall be named by the collaborating partners. ii) The functions of this committee would be to: a) Lay down guidelines for the operation and implementation of this agreement.

b) Approve annual plans and programmes

c) Approve any new areas of collaboration; and d) Monitor the operation of this agreement and suggest remedial measures, if necessary, for improvement of the cooperation. The iii) composition of the joint coordination committee shall be as follows

iv) The JCC will meet once a year alternately at Pokhara and Roorkee under the Chairmanship of the Director. IIT Roorkee and Vice Chancellor, TU respectivell'.

+. Financial Provisions

a. IOE-TU shall meet the trar e1 cost ol lacultl members lrom IIT Roorkee on deputation to IOE-TU b1' air/train. b. IOE-TU shall provide reasonable hoteVsuitable furnished accommodation, local transportation and office space to the faculty members from IIT Roorkee on deputation to IOE-TU. Subsistence allowanceftronorarium to be paid to such deputed faculty members shall be decided by JCC subject to revision from time to time. IOE-TU shall meet the travel cost and subsistence of its visiting faculty members, staff and technicians to IIT Roorkee.

d. IOE-TU shall meet travel cost of the JCC members for attending the JCC meeting at Kathmandu and Roorkee.

e. IIT Roorkee shall treat faculty members, staff and technicians from IOE/TU, who are deputed to attend short-courses and training programs at IIT Roorkee at par with the personal deputed from other educational/research institutions from within India in the matters of accommodation course/training cost and other fees. IIT Roorkee and IOE-TU shall continue to pay the normal salaries of their respective faculty members deputed under this agreement. IOE-TU shall treat the period ofdeputation of& days as on duty. o b' IIT Roorkee shall make provision to support practical training of undergraduate students from IOE-TU as stated in provisiot 20) of this agreement on charging institutions fees and honorarium to faculty and technical staff and that it would provide suitable accommodation to the student, subject to the availability for the period of their stay.

h. IIT Roorkee shall support IOE-TU in faculty development in the areas relevant to Geomatics Engineering and Technology. In such a case monthly stipend and other living costs shall be borne by IOE/TU f,. The programs of cooperation between IIT Roorkee and IOE-TU shall commence with the signing of this agreement the areas of cooperation and the kinds of activities can be decided added and/or modified through mutual consent of both the parties.
