Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Our foundation is in a very strong position as we complete our 32nd year, the second year of a five-year strategic growth plan. Thanks to your staunch support and investment in NW Children’s Fund, we have now granted a cumulative $16 million to more than 300 agencies whose work has helped transform the lives of hundreds of thousands in Western Washington.

Two years ago, after several years of careful research and planning, we set out to significantly expand our impact in the region. Our strategy is two-pronged:

1) to increase grants to high-impact organizations working directly with children and families who need and deserve our support; and

2) to engage stakeholders in child welfare from many different sectors of our community to learn, connect and work together to solve issues related to child abuse and neglect.

We are excited to share with you some of the highlights from the last fiscal year, which ended July 31, 2017:

• Participation in the 2017 NWCF Forum: The Amazing Adolescent Brain: Opportunities, Challenges and Promising Interventions was record-breaking, bringing 450 individuals together from 135 organizations. We also added a second community education event in May on the critical and timely topic of Immigration Policy and Childhood Adversity.

• NW Children’s Fund distributed more than $900K in high-impact grants to 69 outstanding agencies working with vulnerable young children and youth.

• Spark!, our 2017 Gala & Auction, was our most successful fundraiser to date. Close to 500 generous and enthusiastic guests connected with our work and helped us raise more than $700,000. And, as always, 100% of the funds raised in our record- breaking Fund-a-Need went directly to NWCF grants.

As a public foundation, each year NW Children’s Fund must raise all the funds for its grantmaking and outreach efforts from our community. Our work to create lasting change is possible only because of you – your unwavering belief that all children and families deserve to thrive. We are so grateful for your continued trust and confidence in us.

With deep appreciation,

Victoria Peattie Helm Executive Director, NW Children’s Fund
