Time: 3 day, 4 night backpack with the option of staying longer. The avg. person

N hikes apx. 2 miles an hour. Adjust your time based on terrain, trail and weather GG conditions and your skill and fitness level. Elevation Gain/Loss: See trail profile on reverse side Difficulty: Strenuous Season: Mid June through September Trail Users: Hikers, backpackers and elk Dogs: Under owner’s control Permits: Free use permit at the trailhead Getting There from Denver: From Creede drive southwest on Colorado Highway 149 for 19.5 miles. Turn left (south) onto Rio Grande Reservoir Road, also known as, Forest Road 520. It’s paved in the beginning, but after .5 mile the road surface turns to maintained gravel. Drive another 11.1 miles and make another left (south) at the signed junction for Thirtymile Campground and the Weminuche and Squaw Creek trailheads. Keep right upon entering the area, reaching a parking area in .2 mile. Maps: NG Trails Illustrated #140W, Weminuche Pass and Rio Grande Pyramid USGS 7.5 topographic maps. IMPORTANT: Stay found with the aid of a topographic map, a compass, a GPS receiver and the skill to use them. Safety Considerations and Supplemental Info:  Watch for rapidly deteriorating weather conditions to include thunderstorms and lightening  Treat water drawn from sources along the trail  Challenging stream crossings in the Spring and early Summer  Check www.oriconline.org for fire restrictions
