1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING SUPER 2 BOWL LIV FOOTBALL CHAMPION KANSAS CITY CHIEF DEFENSIVE TACKLE 3 CHRISTOPHER DESHUN "CHRIS" JONES FROM HOUSTON, MISSISSIPPI. 4 WHEREAS, Super Bowl LIV featured nine players with 5 Mississippi connections, five with the Kansas City Chiefs and four 6 with the San Francisco 49ers, including offensive tackle

7 Christopher Deshun "Chris" Jones from Houston, Mississippi; and 8 WHEREAS, Jones attended Houston High School in Houston, 9 Mississippi, where he played high school football for the 10 Hilltoppers. Jones was considered a five-star recruit and was 11 ranked among the top players in his class. He committed to 12 Mississippi State University to play ; and 13 WHEREAS, Jones appeared in all 13 games and made three starts

14 as a true Freshman at Mississippi State University in 2013. He 15 had 32 tackles and three sacks. As a sophomore, he appeared in 16 all 13 games and had 26 tackles and three sacks. As a junior, he 17 started all 13 games, recording 44 tackles and 2.5 sacks. 18 Following the conclusion of his junior year, Jones made the

Jones was the fifth 23 defensive tackle drafted in 2016. On May 8, 2016, the Chiefs 24 signed Jones to a four-year, multimillion-dollar contract. Jones

25 made his professional regular season debut in the Kansas City 26 Chiefs' season-opening 33–27 victory over the San Diego Chargers. 27 On October 23, 2016, Jones earned his first career start and 28 recorded two solo tackles in a 27–21 win against the New Orleans 29 Saints. The next game, he made a solo tackle and his first career 30 sack on Andrew Luck in a 30–14 victory over the Indianapolis 31 Colts. In a Week 10 Matchup with the , Jones

32 made three solo tackles and sacked Cam Newton in a 20–17 win. On 33 December 8, 2016, he recorded a season-high five combined tackles 34 in a 21–13 win against the Oakland Raiders. On January 1, 2017, 35 Jones recorded a season-high four solo tackles in a 37–27 win 36 against the San Diego Chargers. He finished his rookie season

37 with 28 combined tackles, two sacks, and four pass deflections in 38 16 games and 11 starts; and

39 WHEREAS, on September 17, 2017, in Week 2, Jones recorded 40 three sacks, two forced , and an in a 27–20 41 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, earning him AFC Defensive Player 42 of the Week. Overall, he finished the 2017 season with 6.5 sacks,

He finished the season third in the league 48 with 15.5 sacks, which led the Chiefs, along with 40 combined

49 tackles, five passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and an 50 interception. He was named second-team All-Pro for his 51 performance in 2018; and 52 WHEREAS, in 2019, against the , Jones 53 recorded two sacks on , and Jones helped the Chiefs 54 reach Super Bowl LIV, where Jones recorded one tackle, but forced 55 the game's first turnover. The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco

56 49ers 31-20. At the Super Bowl, Jones recorded a game-high three 57 passes defended, including a pair in the fourth quarter; and 58 WHEREAS, Chris' statistics to date are: 136 total tackles, 59 33.0 sacks, 7 forced fumbles, 20 pass deflections, 2 60 , and 1 defensive touchdown; and

61 WHEREAS, the former Mississippi State star met with the media 62 following his Kansas City Chiefs' 31-20 victory against the San

63 Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium and the 64 6-foot-6, 310-pound defensive lineman had a few things to say to 65 the folks back home. "Houston, Mississippi, without a doubt, this 66 is for ya'll," Jones said after his team used a Super Bowl 67 record-tying 21-point fourth quarter to erase a 10-point deficit
