======Tape Land 95 – Incoming Message Cassette (acquired 4/29/01) 6:13

Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I’ll present the audio of a cassette tape from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to digitize more of my archives. Inspired by “The Audio Kitchen” (a show on WFMU), I spent a few years (around 2001) buying used answering machines with cassettes in them, hoping to find interesting audio for my Internet radio project, Bluffcosm. I got this tape at a flea market in Lyndhurst, NJ, on April 29, 2001. It’s short, but has some interesting stuff on it. I bleeped out phone numbers and last names.

Notes: Dinner arrangements, message for Dad, message from Mom, cracks in the concrete, slosh the paint, seating arrangements, carpet installation, shower disappointment, air conditioner, call me when you get a chance, poor guy swallowed a puzzle piece, message from Joe.

======Tape Land 96 – Lullaby of Birdland (date unknown) 12:50

Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I’ll present the audio of a cassette tape from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to digitize more of my archives.

I have no idea how this tape came into my possession. It’s unlabeled, and seems to be a practice tape, with someone singing “Lullaby of Birdland”, “Mood Indigo”, “Bill Bailey”, “Basin Street Blues”, and “Autumn Leaves”.

======Tape Land 97 – Session for Lisa (August 1992) 1:10:44

Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I’ll present the audio of a cassette tape from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to digitize more of my archives.

I have no idea how this tape came to be part of my collection – maybe I bought it at a flea market or garage sale. It’s unlabeled, and I don’t think I ever listened to it before. It’s a recording of a psychic reading for someone named Lisa. Information on the tape dates it to August 1992. The content of the reading is very generic, mostly about typical new age stuff and relationships. One interesting vision is that Lisa is associated with “seven universes”.

======Gunkcast 55: I Struggle Just To Say Your Name In Chicago: An Indie-Rock Memoir (Part 1) (May 2019) 1:46:24

Join Smidge as he welcomes a very special guest to the show for an all-out music extravaganza! Michael Lenzi was one of the key members of a pivotal Chicago Indie-Rock band from the 90’s called Number One Cup. Hear the story of how a Bowie/punk rock fan from DC followed his music dream to Chicago, and ended up forming a band who found an audience very far away! Learn how mailing their 1st single to the legendary John Peel in the U.K. in the early 90’s changed everything for the band. From tales of being stranded out West on their 1st U.S. tour, to playing festivals throughout Europe, to onstage destruction of their instruments/gear, an encounter with Thom Yorke of Radiohead, to recording in the same famous studio used by Nirvana for their final LP (while former Husker Du drummer Grant Hart wandered in!)… this episode is packed with many fascinating stories of Michael’s music journey with Number One Cup!

A special note that Michael & his wife run their own independent record label called Sweet Pea Records, and all the music used to soundtrack this episode may be found & acquired through this site. Please also check out their Facebook page as well. Besides Number One Cup, many of the other music projects Michael has been part of can be found on Sweet Pea Records as well. Cheers!

Also, please share the love and listen to some of our favorite podcasts at: Onsug, Static Radio, Insignificast, The Hustle, Rock Solid, The Not New Review, The Unblinking Ear, & The Pods & Sods Network.
