Editor: During the year, activity included the 8th Annual National ENT Masterclass® which Mr. M S Quraishi was held in London at the Royal College of Surgeons for the first time. This move FRCS, FRCS (ORL, H&N) was precipitated by the upgrading and modernisation of the post-graduate centre Consultant ENT Surgeon at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The relocation allowed for a larger auditorium, and hence more delegates. There were an increased delegate interest from outside the Hon Senior Lecturer in Surgical UK, Germany, Ireland, Italy, South Africa, Malta and Saudi Arabia. There was an Oncology expansion of the Faculty members, mainly from London, but the old reliable Doncaster Royal Infirmary “country” Faculty remained faithful and travelled on this occasion. There was Doncaster, UK superb support from the RCS and their audiovisual staff as well as ENT UK. The E-mail: course while incurring additional expense remains free to all delegates. There was [email protected] generous support from ENT UK on the hiring of the lecture facilities. The meeting was transmitted live as a free international WEBCAST as had been done for the 6th and 7th Masterclass in previous years. Professor Valerie Lund CBE, current President of ENT UK was the “Guest of Honour” at the Annual ENT Masterclass and presented on the “management of sino-nasal malignant neoplasms”. The 2012 ENT Masterclass Registrar’s Gold Medal was awarded to Mr Ciaran Kelly, SpR Doncaster, for his presentation on “Minimal Access Parathyroid Surgery”. Ms Emma Hoskison from Nottingham picked up the silver medal for her talk on comparison of voice handicap index with Chairman Editorial Board: voice handicap index-10. This issue of Journal ENT Masterclass includes the registrar presentations’ abstracts. This year saw another addition to the Prof. P J Bradley MBA FRCS Masterclass stable: the First Advanced ENT Emergencies Masterclass which was Honorary Professor of Head and held in June along with the 5th Thyroid and Salivary gland and the 3rd Radiology Neck Oncologic Surgery, The Masterclasses at the Dome Leisure Centre, Doncaster. In September the 5th University of Nottingham, UK National Tracheostomy and 6th National ENT Nursing Masterclasses were held. E-mail: [email protected] The ENT “Cyber Textbook on Operative Surgery” has been very popular all over the world and we get hundreds of hits every month from over 50 countries. Editorial Board: Feedback from UK trainees has also been very encouraging and there are plans to expand the video library even further from the present 160 videos. Mr SS Musheer Hussain (UK) The Journal of ENT Masterclass continues to be welcomed locally, nationally and Mr R McConn-Walsh (Eire) even internationally late January and is has now reached its 5th year and on this Prof A Narula (UK) occasion includes some twenty – articles , mainly local but continues to attract Prof S R Saeed (UK) contributions from abroad. Our thanks again is extended to all who have helped Mr A Sama (UK) continue to make this a worthy teaching contribution to the residents in their Mr R Simo (UK) education and a source of referral for their final examinations. The Journal continued to be produced and circulated free. As a visible structure, auricular malformations constitute a great burden. A wide set of anomalies may affect the ear including the microtia spectrum, protruding ears (bat ear), constricted ear (Lop and Cup ears), Stahl ear, and cryptotia. In plastic surgery practice protruding ears and microtia are common presentations. Microtia literally means small ears. Microtia is a spectrum of anomalies of the auricle that range from disorganized remnant of cartilage attached to soft tissue lobule to complete absence of the ear (anotia). Ear reconstructive procedures has made in impact in the lives of these patients. The early attempts to surgically restore the ear in microtia was in 1920 using a rib cartilage. Up to 49% of microtia cases are associated with other anomalies or a known syndrome. The most common syndromic associations are hemifacial microsomia, Towens Brocks syndrome, Treacher Collins, Goldenhar and Nager syndrome. Oculo-auriculo-vertebral spectrum (OAVS). Generally, the ear can be retrieved by two possible methods: Surgical reconstruction using autologous or alloplastic cartilage and the use of prosthesis which could be adhesive or implant retained. Surgical reconstruction proved to be superior to other methods due to its longevity and less complications.

Although some studies have pointed out CADs have a natural improvement trend, there is still a lack of high-quality research to demonstrate the degree of that. Therefore, related studies agree that early treatment are necessary. Ear mold correction is currently main non-surgical treatment for CADs, but the existing research often involves a small sample size, and the research conclusions are inconsistent. More importantly, there is still no systematic review on ear mold correction for CADs. This study aims to systematically evaluate the effectiveness and safety of ear mold correction for CADs, so as to provide an evidence base for further research.

Results: There were 105 patients with 141 ears underwent Earwell non-invasive correction system for newborn ear deformities. The average age for treatment is 2.16 ± 2.28 months (0.23–12.0 months). The average treatment time is 1.14 ± 0.57 months (0.33–4.0 months). The treatment outcomes show 109 ears get excellent results, 27 ears good results and 5 ears poor results.
