MARY’S 55 QUINNIPIAC 81, ROBERT MORRIS 75 Choice Hotels/NEC Player of the Week WAGNER 91, FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON 63 Tristan Blackwood, Central Connecticut State Saturday, February 19 Jr., G, 6-0, 170 lbs., Toronto, Ontario/Eastern Commerce Blackwood put on a virtuoso performance in CCSU’s 88-86 win over Robert Morris last Thursday en-route to his second Choice Hotels/NEC Player of the Week award of the season. The junior guard scored an NEC single-game season-high 40 points and tied a 16-year old league record with 10 three-pointers (in 17 attempts) in the contest. Blackwood, who also scored his 1,000th career point in the game, added three rebounds, five assists and a steal as the NEC regular season champion Blue Devils improved to 15- 2 in league play this season. The ten trifectas matched the total of the Mount’s Scott Murphy, who established the long-standing conference mark on February 7, 1991 against Wagner, and fell one shy of the CCSU record of 11 set by Marc Rybczyk versus LIU Home Team Underlined on November 26, 1991 (prior to the Blue Devils’ entry into the NEC). Blackwood’s 40 points were the most scored in an NEC contest since Quinnipiac’s Rob Monroe tallied 40 against Sacred Heart on February 3, 2005 and marked the 25th time in NEC history that a player has scored 40 points in a league game. Likewise, the Toronto, Ontario native became the fifth CCSU player to hit the 40-point Choice Hotels Choice Hotels mark (second in the Division I era) and recorded the highest single-game point total for a Blue Devil competitor since Obet Vasquez scored 41 against Radford on December 12, 1990. With a CCSU record 102 three-pointers, Blackwood is tied for fourth on the NEC Player of the Week NEC Rookie of the Week NEC’s single-season list and needs 15 more to break the record held by Long Island’s Charles Jones, who hit 116 in 1997-98. He enters play this week with 1,015 points. He joined teammates Javier Mojica (1,226) and Obie Nwadike (1,191). • CCSU senior forward Obie Nwadike moved up three spots to fifth place on the NEC's career rebounding chart with 928. He moved past FDU's Greg Foster (916 from 1982-84), Marist's Ted Taylor (923 from 1981-85) and FDU's Rahshon Turner (927 from 1994-98) last week. CCSU's Ron Robinson is the all-time leader with 1,022 (2000-04) and the Blue Devils' is fourth with 966 (1998-02). • CCSU senior forward Obie Nwadike is the only player in the nation ranked in the top-25 in rebounding who measures under 6’6” and the only one in the top-50 who isn’t at least 6’5” tall. The 6’4” Nwadike is one of just eight players in the country - he ranks fifth - putting up double digits in rebounds with 10.7 rpg. The NEC’s leading glass sweeper is also the only player on the circuit who averages a double-double, adding 14.3 ppg. • If CCSU beats Wagner on Monday in its final game of the regular season, it will finish with 16 league wins, tying the Blue Devils for third most in league history. • FDU senior forward Andre Harris, who leads the NEC with 18.6 ppg, is the only player in the conference to score in double figures in each game this season (28). • FDU has qualified for the NEC Tournament for the 25th time in 26 years of NEC Tournament play, the most appearances of any team in the conference. • Long Island senior guard James Williams hit five three-pointers last week to raise his career total to 275, third on the NEC's all-time list. He passed Wagner's Dedrick Dye (269 from 1999-03) and CCSU's Justin Chiera (274 from 2002-06) to reach third. • Long Island senior guard James Williams raised his career point total to 1,686 to move into 22nd place on the NEC career chart. • Monmouth senior forward Marques Alston established an NEC record for career games played when he took to the court for the 125th time on Friday against Sacred Heart. He broke former teammate Chris Kenny's record of 124. • With 164 blocks, Monmouth senior center John Bunch needs three more rejections to become the school's career leader. Steve Wreidt, who played four seasons compared to two for Bunch, holds the record with 166. • When Monmouth guard Jhamar Youngblood scored 31 points against Sacred Heart on Friday, it marked the most points by an NEC freshman since St. Francis (NY)’s John Quintana hit for 31 on February 22, 2003. • On Saturday, Mount St. Mary's guard Jeremy Goode established the school’s freshman record for assists in a season with 144, breaking Chris McGuthrie’s mark of 143 set during the 1992-93 season. • Quinnipiac junior guard DeMario Anderson has averaged 23.2 ppg on 58.0 percent shooting from the floor over the last five games. • Quinnipiac has posted an 11-3 record since January 6. • Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart will enter the NEC Tournament with the highest seeds in their respective histories, either second or third. • Robert Morris senior guard Derek Coleman eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau against Quinnipiac on Saturday, becoming the 16th player in school history to accomplish the feat. RMU junior guard Tony Lee joined Coleman in the 1,000-point club in the same game, becoming the 17th player in school history to turn the trick. Coleman enters this week's play with 1,009 career points, while Lee is just a point behind him with 1,008. • Robert Morris guard Tony Lee became the sixth player in NEC history, and the first as a junior, to hit career totals of 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 250 assists. He did so on Saturday against Quinnipiac, and enters play this week with 1,008 points, 520 rebounds and 261 assists. • With 430 career assists, Robert Morris senior Derek Coleman has moved into 24th place on the NEC's career list. • Sacred Heart has won three straight and four of its last five games. The Pioneers' 15 overall wins and 11 NEC wins are both school records. • Over his last seven outings, Sacred Heart junior forward Brice Brooks has averaged 14.0 ppg, 8.1 rpg and shot at a 58.5 percent clip from the floor. Prior to this hot streak, he had averaged 7.8 ppg and 4.9 rpg. • St. Francis (NY) junior forward Robert Hines has posted six straight 20+ point games - the longest such streak by an NEC player this season - averaging 24.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg and 3.5 apg, while shooting 37-42 (.881) from the line over that span. • Saint Francis (PA) has won three of its last four games after losing 15 straight. The Red Flash's win over second place Quinnipiac on Thursday snapped a 10-game road losing streak. • Saint Francis (PA)'s Marquis Ford leads the NEC with 51.0 percent shooting from three-point range. His success rate from long range currently ranks third in school history, just behind former Dallas Maverick , who had three-point field goal percentages of .516 and .528 in 1989-90 and 1990-91, respectively. No other player in school history has topped 50.0 percent from three-point territory. • Wagner junior forward James Ulrich helped the Seahawks clinch an NEC playoff berth on Saturday with a career-high 28 points and added 10 boards in his sixth double-double effort of the year. He averaged 21.5 ppg and 11.0 rpg for the week. NEC Men’s Basketball 2007 NEC Basketball Tournament Facts/Figures Schedule
