2018-2019 Instructor Training Course

Thank you for your interest in the Instructor Training Course! The course will put you on a path to becoming a professional or instructor with the Ski Ward Snow School. The $75 I.T.C fee covers all your training both indoors and on snow. You will get a lift pass that is good up until evaluations have been completed (that means you can come free ski or board any time the mountain is open). The training you will receive will help you understand what it is to be a snow sports instructor, how to teach and/or using a standardized teaching system called the American Teaching System by the Professional Ski Instructors of America of which our Snow School is a Certified Member School. In addition to learning to teach skiing there is an equal amount of concentration on improving your own personal skiing and riding techniques. The following is the indoor schedule for this year’s Instructors Training Course:

Monday November 5 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm Wednesday November 7 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm Tuesday November 13 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm Wednesday November 14 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm

*possibly more to be announced

ON SNOW TRAINING

On-snow clinics will begin as soon as we are open. Once we establish our opening day, I will send out an e-mail with an on-snow schedule for training. On-Snow training will be held weeknights and weekend days. You are not expected to attend all the on snow training but if your schedule allows it you are encouraged to come to as many as you can. We will also establish a required amount of hours for On-Snow Training. Typically we hold evaluations the week before December break. The training staff will evaluate your performance and participation in the program and make their recommendations for who they believe have met the standards for being hired. Taking the course does NOT guarantee you a job at Ski Ward. Even if you meet the standards necessary to be an instructor there are only so many positions we need to fill and decisions will then be made according to our needs and your availability. At this time, new instructors are needed for all scheduled classes.

EVALUATIONS: Evaluations are made based on just a few factors; potential, professionalism, participation and your ability to work with and satisfy the needs of the students you will be teaching. You will be expected at a minimum to be able to use all the lifts at Ski Ward and get down the hill while obeying all the responsibility codes.

HINTS ABOUT GETTING THE JOB:

• Be sure you sign in every time you come • Evaluations start the first clinic and are happening throughout the entire course • Consistently check your e-mail • You and only you should call about work related questions. • Smile, ask questions, dress the part and be ready to go 15 mins early (booted up etc.) • Be exceptional to the customers, trainers, ski school staff, department heads, and other employees. • Have fun!

NOTE:

! You must turn 14 years of age by Jan 1st 2019 to be considered for hiring this season. ! If you will not turn age 14 by Jan 1st 2019 and you are at least 13 years of age you may still take the ITC. ! If you are not hired following the ITC you will be offered a season pass at the lowest pre-season price that was available for this season. ! Like all programs, passes and tickets etc. there are NO refunds for I.T.C.

Instructors Training Course 2018-2019

Ski Ward’s Instructors Training Course (ITC) is a mandatory course for all potential ski or snowboard instructors. The course is designed to train and evaluate candidates through indoor classroom sessions as well as on-snow clinics. Each candidate will be evaluated on performance, attendance and attitude before being hired. Simply participating in ITC does NOT guarantee employment.

The NON-REFUNDABLE ITC fee is $75.00 and includes all indoor and on-snow clinics, evaluation and a ski/snowboard pass valid opening day through evaluation week (mid December). In the unfortunate event that you are not hired, you will be eligible to purchase a Season Pass at our lowest pre-season price.

Please complete and sign the section below and bring this paperwork along with your payment of $75.00 to Danielle or Customer Service. Once paid return this form and proof of payment to the Snow School Office.
