1. The Addl. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Land Management) and the Nodal Officer, Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980, the State Government of vide his letter dated 8th July 2013 submitted a proposal to obtain prior approval of the Central Government, in terms of the Section-2 of the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 for diversion of 80.317 hectares of forest land in favour of Power Grid Corporation of Limited in , Ashoknagar and districts for construction of 765 KV Bina –Gwalior-3 Single circuit Transmission Line.

2. Details indicated in the proposal submitted by the Government of Madhya Pradesh are as below: FACT SHEET

3. Particular of Forests

i Name of Forest Division Shivpuri, Ashok Nagar and Gwalior Forest Divisions

ii Area of Forest land for Shivpuri Forest Division: 1.920 ha. Diversion Ashok Nagar Forest Division: 50.402 ha. Gwalior Forest Division: 27.995 ha. Total: 80.317 ha.

iii Legal Status of Forest land Protected Forest:: 14.2144 ha. Reserve Forest: 60.1026 ha.

iv Density of Vegetation The forest land proposed to be diverted in Shivpuri does not contain any forest. The forest land proposed to be diverted in Ashoknagar and Gwalior Divisions contains Mixed forest of site quality IV B having crown density from 0.30 to 0.50.

v Species-wise and diameter Forest land proposed for diversion contains class wise enumeration of total 3,779 trees. Important species available trees therein are Terminalia belerica, Zizyphus mauritiana, Lagerstroemia parviflora, Diospyros melanaxylon, Butea frondosa, Acacia Arabica, 22

Albizia lebbeck, Azadirachta indica, Saccopertalum tomentosum, Dipterocarpus turbinatus, Phyllanthus emblica, Albizia lebbeck, Holoptelai integrefolia, Bassia latifolia, Anogeissus latifolia, Eugenia jamnbolana, Buchanania latifolia, Ficus religiosa, Terminalia arjuna, Mimusops hexandra, Acacia arabica, Schleichera oleosa, Elaeodendron glancnnl, Tamarindusw indica, Acacai catechgu, Budfordia forticos etc. Girth-class wise distribution of trees available therein is as below: 10 cm-20 cm: 1,611 trees, 21 cm -60 cm: 1,577 trees, 61 cm – 120 cm: 437 trees and 121 cm and above: 121 trees.

4. Vulnerability of area to soil Forest land proposed to be diverted in Shivpuri erosion. Forest Division and Ashok Nagar Forest division is not vulnerable. The forest land proposed to be diverted in Gwalior Division is vulnerable to soil erosion. The forest land proposed to be diverted has mild slope hence, intensity of soil erosion will be low. As the forest land is proposed to be diverted for Transmission line, soil erosion after the diversion may not be very intensive.

3. The Addl. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Land Management) and the Nodal Officer, Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980, the State Government of Madhya Pradesh in his letter dated 5th February 2013 submitted following additional information pertaining to the proposal: (i) In respect of settlement of rights under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 in the certificates issued by the Collectors of Shivpuri, Ashoknagar and Gwalior districts it has been stated that process for settlement of rights under the above Act is not in progress. No claim for settlement of individual or community right over the said land has not been received by the District Level Committee; (ii) Estimated outlay of the project is Rs. 231.00 crore.

4. The proposal is placed before the Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) for their examination and appropriate recommendations.
