Kyla Ross Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week (1/15, 2/5) A LOOK BACK AT 2018 UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week (1/8) UCLA turned in a performance for the ages at the 2018 NCAA Super Six Team Final, using a NCAA Championship and school record balance beam score of 49.750 in the  nal rotiation to come from behind to win its seventh NCAA team title. The Bruins trailed two-time defending champion Oklahoma by .325 at the halfway mark but rallied with 10.0 SCORES huge marks on uneven bars (49.6375, the second-highest bars total in NCAA Championship history) to cut the de cit Kyla Ross - 2 (UB 1-12-19, 2-2-19) to .175 going into the  nal rotation. While Oklahoma was totaling 49.5375 on uneven bars to pad its lead, the Bruins Katelyn Ohashi - 1 (FX 1-12-19) had an uphill battle to climb after a fall in the two spot following Grace Glenn’s 9.9375 leadoff balance beam mark. Madison Kocian - 1 (UB 1-21) But rather than sinking under the pressure, UCLA thrived. Brielle Nguyen, in her only routine of the night, followed 9.95+ SCORES the fall with a 9.875. Nia Dennis will be this week’s guest. FUTURE BRUINS UCLA’s future remains bright with the signing of three standout gymnasts to national letters of intent. The Bruins signed U.S. National Team member Jordan Chiles (Vancouver, Wash.), Mexican National Team member Frida Esparza (Pittsburg, Calif.) and USA Championships competitor Kalyany Steele (Colorado Springs, Colo.) in November. Chiles, who trains at Nayedenov Gymnastics, is a  ve-time U.S. National Team member and the 2018 U.S. vault silver medalist and 2017 all-around silver medalist. She won the U.S. vault title at the junior level in 2015 and was the bronze medalist on vault and € oor in 2014. Esparza, from Head Over Heels Gymnastics, is the current Mexican national all-around champion. She competed at the World Championships and  nished in the Top 32 in all-around qualifying. Esparza also helped Mexico win team bronze at the 2018 Pan American Games. Steele trains at Colorado Aerials and competed at the 2016 and 2017 USA Championships. In 2017, her  rst at the senior level, she placed 13th in the all-around.
