DUNEDIN SOUTHERN

Both Dunedin and Southern have confirmed their semi-final spots for 2017. Southern will finish top and play Kaikorai whilst Dunedin will finish either 2nd or 3rd and play Harbour. That being said there is still plenty to play for this weekend and both sides would love to gain some momentum as they embark on the knock out phase of the tournament. The Ron Reggett Memorial will also be up for grabs this weekend, a trophy that both teams would dearly love to hold. Dunedin are the current holders.

Bench Strength: There will be no respite for either side late in the match with both teams’ naming powerful benches. 2016 Otago Mitre 10 Cup halfbacks Jono Ruru (Dunedin) and Josh Walden (Southern) will come off the pine, whilst pin up boy George Witana will make his return after a lengthy injury spell. For Southern lock/loose forward Josh Clark and Bryce Hosie will add power and speed when they are introduced.

Players to watch: Tim Cossens (Dunedin) has been in sublime form of late for the Sharks. A deadly goal kicker, Cossens contribution with the boot will be crucial if Dunedin plan on keeping the Ron Reggett. Cossens, a great communicator, will play a vital role at the back ensuring Dunedin get it right defensively. Ben Leggett (Southern) has become a bit of a Colt hero out at Magpies HQ this season. Ben, a lethal finisher, who has bagged 6 tries to date, including a double last week. Leggett’s ability to find the try line could see the ‘Reggett’ making its way back to Southern. Leggett has adopted the knee first dive (pictured), it’s an old fashion move, which seems to be working wonders.
