We have received your request for application guidelines . We welcome, but do not require the Washington Regional Association of Grantmaker's common grant application format . You may instead follow our own guidelines, which are :

Your application should be in the form of a concise (approximately two pages) letter requesting general operating support or describing the project for which you are seeking funding and the need for it . We would also like a brief statement (approximately three pages) regarding the history of the organization, its purposes, current activities and evidence of its effectiveness . we are enclosing an application form which should be submitted with ALL proposals . (Use our form ; please do not create your own .) In addition, we require :

1) A copy of the organization's IRS determination letter (no applications will be considered without this) .

2) A budget for the project (if the request is for a specific project), AND the current general operating budget .

3) Financial statements, i .e ., Balance Sheet, Income Statements, latest Audit . (If the organization does not have all of this information, explain why and provide as much as you can .) In the case of organizations with budgets in excess of $100,000, we look for an audit or at least a review by an outside source .

4) List of Board of Directors/Officers, their places of employment and their relevant community affiliations .

Your request will be considered as soon as possible by a committee of the Board of Trustees . The Board meets as necessary to vote on grants . There are no application deadlines . Receipt of proposals will be acknowledged by postcard . You will receive word of the Board's decision shortly after the Board meets -- expect the process to take at least four months . The Foundation's income is limited ; therefore, only a portion of the requests received ultimately are funded . We do not fund government agencies .

The Foundation rarely conducts interviews or makes on-site visits . The best way to communicate with us is by mail as we do not have full-time staff . JOHN EDWARD FOWLER MEMORIAL FOUNDATION
