Universidad Complutense de Madrid [email protected] Gracias a la gran adaptabilidad del mito a los nuevos medios y su perdurabilidad a lo largo del tiempo, diosas como Isis, Gea o Deméter reaparecen no sólo a través de la imagen, sino de los sonidos y letras que artistas como Björk o Iamamiwhoami -Jonna Lee- nos ofrecen a lo largo de su carrera musical. Por un lado, nos encontramos con cantautoras como Björk presentando una imagen construida mediante la inspiración en numerosas divinidades femeninas pertenecientes a diferentes mitologías. Por otro, Jonna Lee -junto a Claes Björklund- da vida a un nuevo personaje femenino -Iamamiwhoami- que se confunde entre la realidad y la ficción mostrándose como una nueva divinidad conectada estrechamente con la Madre Naturaleza. Mediante la introducción de la Diosa en su trabajo, estas artistas no sólo consiguen como resultado la construcción de una imagen fuerte y rompedora que sea atractiva para el espectador, sino que además son capaces de empaparse de ese aura divina que se crea entorno a su persona transmitiendo a su vez cierta dosis de fuerza y energía necesarias para conseguir el despertar de la mujer alejándola del halo victimista y la terrible pasividad en la que tanto tiempo ha estado sumergida. Nos encontramos ante una auténtica revolución de la Diosa quien cansada de ser la mujer de..., la hija de..., la madre de..., la hermana de..., reaparece como la verdadera protagonista del relato.

Frente a la inequívoca exaltación del héroe solar de Cummings, Björk utiliza una mirada femenina que duda entre los referentes de Lilith, la mujer que encuentra su libertad fuera de la sociedad, y Eva, aquella cuya sumisión es socialmente productiva.     Bjö rk on the Gallows: Performance, Persona, and Authenticity in Lars von Trier’s Dancer in the Dark Pascal Rudolph University of Potsdam [email protected] Abstract In Dancer in the Dark (2000), Icelandic popstar Björk portrays the main character of Selma. Lars von Trier, the director, described his film as an exercise in emotionally manipulating the audience. Drawing on Philip Auslander’s concept of the “musical persona”, this study argues that the decision to cast a popstar, in combination with the structure of the film, serves von Trier’s purpose of intensifying the film’s manipulative potential, by evoking an impression of shocking realism or authenticity. This study furthermore places the presentation of the filmic character in conversation with Björk’s popstar status, critical reception of the film, as well as reception of her performance within it. Extending Auslander’s concept of persona through a transmedial approach provides new perspectives on Björk’s performance, Dancer’s polarized reception, and analytical models for performers’ public reception.
