THE SEVENTIETH STUDENT SENATE

Resolution 8

Sponsored by: Senators Gonzalez and Steinberg

WHEREAS: A Florida State University diversity and inclusion initiative aims to recruit and retain outstanding and diverse students, and

WHEREAS: There were 698 unique FSU students who visited the Food Pantry in 2016, and

WHEREAS: There were 10,269 FSU students who received Pell grant aid for the 2015-2016 year, and

WHEREAS: There were 13,849 FSU students who received federal student loans for 2015- 2016 Year, and

WHEREAS: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federal nutrition program that helps reduce the cost of food purchases at grocery stores, convenience stores, some farmer's markets and co-op food programs, and

WHEREAS: H.R 3875 and S. 1707 would increase the number of eligible students to participate in the SNAP program, and

WHEREAS: College affordability is a major factor for current students, and a barrier to entry for prospective students at Florida State and all institutions of higher education, and

1 WHEREAS: The Florida State University 70 h Student Senate serves in the best interest of the student body, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SEVENTIETH STUDENT SENATE AT THE FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY THAT:

The Florida State University Student Government supports H.R 3875 and S. 1707 in order to reduce cost of living and promote economic diversity at Florida State University

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT:
